We hear your heartfelt cry for balance, holding fast to intercession for the lost while pressing forward into the new things God is doing. Your request is steeped in Scripture, and we stand with you in agreement, lifting these petitions before the throne of grace.

First, we rejoice in your recognition of Godโ€™s daily mercies, as Lamentations 3:23 declares, "They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." This truth anchors us in hope, even as we carry burdens for those still outside the fold. Your prayer for your distant matrimonialโ€™s repentance and regeneration aligns with Romans 10:1, where Paulโ€™s heart echoed, "Brothers, my heartโ€™s desire and my prayer to God is for Israel, that they may be saved." We join you in pleading for their salvation, that they would turn fully to Christ and be nourished by His Word (2 Timothy 3:15). Yet we also affirm your desire to shift your primary focus to the new things God is doing, as Isaiah 42:9 proclaims, "Behold, the former things have happened, and I declare new things. I tell you about them before they come up."

Father, we ask You to open doors for the Gospel as You promised in Revelation 3:7-8, where You declare, "I have set before you an open door, which no one can shut." May these doors lead to Bible studies, prayer meetings, and opportunities to share the overflow of Your Spirit with the lost. Grant us the grace to work diligently while trusting You to fight our battles, as Exodus 14:14 reminds us, "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still." Strengthen us to set things in order (Titus 1:5), finish our tasks (Revelation 3:2), and meet every pressing need (Titus 3:14), all while running the race set before us with endurance (Hebrews 12:1-2).

We also lift up your plea for protection, from temptation (Luke 11:4), sin (Zephaniah 3:13), evil (Matthew 6:13), and the schemes of the evil one (John 17:15). Guard your heart and mind, Lord, as we press toward the upward call in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-14). Help us to forget what lies behind and strain forward to what lies ahead, laying aside every weight and sin that clings so closely (Hebrews 12:1).

One area we must gently address is the reference to a "distant matrimonial." If this refers to a former spouse or someone you were once married to, we encourage you to prayerfully consider whether lingering emotional or relational ties are hindering your ability to fully embrace the new things God has for you. Scripture calls us to let go of the past, even as we intercede for those still lost. If this is a matter of unrepentant sin or an unbiblical relationship, we urge you to seek godly counsel and surrender it fully to Christ. Forgiveness and healing are possible, but they must be rooted in truth and obedience to Godโ€™s Word.

Lord, we ask You to fill us with Your grace to navigate both the old and the new, as Ecclesiastes 7:18 instructs, "It is good that you should take hold of the one, without letting go of the other." May we run in such a way as to win the prize (1 Corinthians 9:24), abiding in Your Word and making disciples as You commanded (Matthew 28:19-20). Protect us from distractions and empower us to walk in the fullness of Your calling.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we are saved (Acts 4:12) and through whom we have access to the Father (Ephesians 2:18). May Your will be done in every area of our lives, and may Your glory be our highest aim. Amen.

We can feel the strain in your words, the desire to faithfully keep praying for a former spouse and a prodigal, while also sensing Godโ€™s pull toward the new things He is unfolding. It takes real grace to hold both without letting go of either, and weโ€™re grateful youโ€™re not trying to simply drop the past. Your continued intercession is love in action, and your longing to step fully into the open doors before you shows a heart eager to honor God now.

One simple thing that has helped others in this tension is to set a brief, regular time each day specifically for those prayers from the past. When that time ends, deliberately turn your attention to the duties and opportunities right in front of you, trusting that God hears and will answer in His own way. Itโ€™s not a quick fix, but it helps the heart make the shift without guilt or scrambling. You can then press into teaching, prayer meetings, evangelism, and whatever โ€œnewโ€ He has placed in your hands, knowing you havenโ€™t abandoned what youโ€™ve already laid before Him.

Lord, thank You for daily mercies and for all You are setting before this dear one. Give them wisdom to balance remembered intercession with present calling. Keep them from distraction, open gospel doors, and protect them from all evil as they run this race. In Jesusโ€™ name.

Father please do this for them and as it pertains also for us and all in need. Thank you and praise you. In Jesus name. Amen

There is a holy tension in your prayer that I can well understand. To hold fast one thing and yet not let go of the other, to intercede for souls that are far off while pouring your strength into the work God has set immediately before you, this is no easy path, yet it is the very path of wisdom. I rejoice that you do not cast away intercession. That blessed work is written upon your heart by God Himself. Let no one dissuade you from pleading with the Lord for that distant one and for the child, for even when all seems dark, the soul that has learned to groan before the throne cannot be silenced. It is a mark of divine teaching when we cannot let men perish without prayer. Pursue them with your persistent intercession, even into the unseen world if it must be, for we know not when the Lord may be pleased to make all things new for them.

Yet remember, the grace that makes you an intercessor is the same grace that commands you to run the race that is set before you, looking unto Jesus. The very life that is hidden with Christ is a life of action. I fear, at times, that we may become so fixed upon a single soul that we neglect the many the Lord has given us to feed. The Apostle did not cease to pray for Israel, but he did not therefore sit idle. He labored abundantly. New things are indeed springing forth, do you not perceive them? The Lord is ever doing wonders; His Gospel is old, yet ever new, and He would have you enter into new fields of service, open doors which no man can shut. Lay aside every weight, and the sins which do so easily beset us, including that over-anxiety which would chain you to regrets and past years. Temporal concerns and even spiritual longings for others must not become such a burden that your own soul grows unfit for present duty.

Set first things first. Seek the kingdom, and all these things shall be added. If your eye is single to the glory of Christ and the making known of His Gospel, the Lord will take care of the rest. He will give you wisdom to know how much time to spend upon your knees for the distant ones, and how much to spend upon your feet going after the lost sheep that are near. The same Spirit who makes intercession for the saints also makes intercession for sinners through us; He will lead you in this. Only be careful that you do not try to be a providence to yourself for those you love, but leave them in the hands of Him who hears prayer. And with that holy liberty, go forth into the new things He is creating, the Bible studies, the prayer meetings, the doors for the Gospel, and see what strange and glorious things He will accomplish. All things are become new for those who are in Christ; walk in that newness, expecting fresh mercies daily. May the Lord Jesus keep you from temptation, guard you from the evil one, and make you to abound in every good work, forgetting what lies behind and pressing onward. His grace is sufficient for both burdens, the bitter and the sweet, and He will perfect that which concerns you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
