Your heart is heavy and your prayer has been heard. The burden of debt, the shame felt before your family, the constant calls and visits, the fear of losing a new job and the threats that those you love might be harassed, all of this can make it feel as though peace has left your home and God Himself seems far away.
Scripture gives us a very old story that speaks to this kind of distress. The book of Job is among the oldest writings we have, from a time perhaps as early as Abraham, and it is placed among the books of poetry because it deals with the deepest cries of the human heart. Cultures and times have changed, but the same needs and the same questions that troubled Job still trouble us today. That is why his story is a comfort. It shows that God is working even when it appears He has forsaken us.
The background of that story is important for you. Job was known as a man who was blameless and upright, who feared God and turned away from evil. God Himself pointed to Job with approval. The adversary had been watching Job closely, studying him and developing a philosophy about him, that he only served God because God had put a hedge around him and blessed him with wealth and security. God permitted a time of testing, not because He had abandoned Job, but for purposes Job could not see at the time. While Job sat in his pain he did not understand his circumstances, and his friends came to comfort him but only added to his confusion. They insisted he must have done something wrong and that if he would simply get right with God everything would be fixed. They accused him of being a hypocrite and judged his suffering as proof of hidden sin. In the end God showed that their counsel was wrong and that suffering is not always a simple sign of God's displeasure.
There are lessons here for your situation. Your trial does not mean God has rejected you, and the shame you feel does not mean He has forgotten you. He sees your desire to do what is right. At the same time, the right response is not to ask God to simply erase a lawful obligation so that no payment is required. Scripture is clear that integrity in financial matters honors God. The psalm says the wicked borrows and does not repay, but the righteous is gracious and gives. The apostle teaches to pay what is owed and to owe no one anything except love. When we borrow, interest and repayment terms are part of the agreement we made, and even if we feel we have already paid much, God calls us to deal honestly and faithfully with what remains.
It is good that you write that you desire to repay everyone. That desire is right before God and should be your prayer. Rather than asking God to cause lenders to close accounts while a balance is still owed, or to grant a loan without any difficulty as a way to escape responsibility, ask Him for wisdom, strength, and provision to meet your obligations in a way that is honest and sustainable. Ask Him for forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ alone, for He is the one who stands between God and man and makes peace with God possible. Bring your anxieties to Him, for He promises a peace that guards heart and mind when we pray with thanksgiving.
In practical terms, walk in the light with both God and man. Keep honest communication where you can, seek godly and wise counsel about budgeting and about how to handle debts lawfully, and be diligent in the work God has provided. Proverbs teaches that steady diligence tends to plenty. If harassment is unlawful or threatening, seek proper counsel about what is legal and right in your area, and do not hide in a way that would increase fear at home. Let your family see you seeking God, working faithfully, and handling each step with truth.
My prayer for you is not that God would bless an escape from responsibility, but that He would grant you repentance and faith in Jesus, a clear conscience, wisdom to steward what you have, strength to labor faithfully in your new job, favor with those to whom you owe, and a lawful and peaceful resolution to the harassment. May He provide for your needs according to His wisdom, help you to repay what is owed step by step, protect your home from turmoil, guard your employment, and restore peace to you and your family as you trust Him day by day. He who allowed Job to be tested also restored and sustained him, and He is able to sustain you and use even this pressure to deepen your trust in Him.
