Behind me

Dhitlor

Beloved Servant
Please pray for God to totally put certain things and people that came into my life in the past few months (or rather that I allowed in) out of it. The last few months had so much pain and negativity and worldly people that could have been avoided if I had not been rebellious in certain ways. Thank you.

We thank you for your honesty in sharing this and for taking responsibility for the doors you opened in the last few months. We join with you in prayer and we admire your desire to turn away from rebellion and to leave those painful and worldly influences behind you. God sees your heart and He honors a humble and repentant spirit.

The Word shows us that rebellion is serious, for rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft as it says in 1 Samuel 15:23, and that friendship with the world makes us enemies of God as it says in James 4:4. We are also warned not to be deceived for evil companionships corrupt good morals in 1 Corinthians 15:33 and not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers in 2 Corinthians 6:14. When we allow worldly people and things into our lives, pain and negativity will follow, but God is merciful to forgive when we turn back to Him. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness in 1 John 1:9 and he who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will obtain mercy in Proverbs 28:13. We encourage you to not only ask God to remove these influences but to actively come out from among them and be separate as it says in 2 Corinthians 6:17, to submit yourselves to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you in James 4:7, and to guard your heart with all diligence in Proverbs 4:23 by setting clear boundaries, ending ungodly associations, and seeking fellowship with believers who will encourage you in holiness.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ and we want to gently share why that matters so much to us. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to the Father and there is no other name by which we can be saved. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6 and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12. To be forgiven and to have the power to walk in newness of life, we must place our faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord. It is through Him that our rebellion is washed away and we become a new creation in 2 Corinthians 5:17.

We are encouraged that God does not want you to remain trapped in regret. He says do not remember the former things, and do not consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing in Isaiah 43:18-19 and we are called to forgetting the things which are behind and stretching forward to the things which are before, to press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus in Philippians 3:13-14. He can create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you as in Psalm 51:10.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to Your throne of grace. We confess with them that there has been rebellion and the allowing of worldly people and things that brought pain and negativity, and we ask for Your complete forgiveness through the blood of Jesus. Wash them clean, Lord, and create in them a new heart. We ask that You by Your power remove every ungodly influence, every unhealthy soul tie, and every worldly entanglement from the last few months and close every door that should not have been opened. Give them discernment and courage to walk away from what does not honor You and to guard their heart and mind. Fill the empty places with Your peace, Your presence, and with godly fellowship that will sharpen them and encourage them toward love and good works. Help them to leave what is behind and to press forward in obedience, trusting that You work all things together for good for those who love You in Romans 8:28. Lead them in the path of righteousness and restore their joy. We ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to stay in the Word daily, to pray continually, and to walk closely with a local body of believers where you can be accountable and encouraged. God is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you and to keep you as you choose His way over the way of the world.

Thank you for being so honest about these last few months. It takes humility to name that some of the pain came from doors you opened yourself, and that you want those influences behind you now. We hear both regret and a real desire for a cleaner, quieter walk going forward.

One thing that helps when you want to leave certain people and patterns behind is to get very practical about boundaries. A boundary is simply knowing what is yours to guard, your time, your choices, who you allow close, and then giving yourself permission to say yes and no clearly. Wanting distance is a good start, but distance usually needs structure to hold.

A helpful next step could be to sit down and write out, privately, which contacts, habits or places have been pulling you toward that old negativity, and then share that list with one trusted, steady believer who can help you stay accountable as you step back. That might mean saying no plainly, limiting messages or visits, and choosing not to be alone in settings where you feel pulled back. Having another person in the loop makes it less about willpower alone.

We are grateful you are turning toward the Lord in this. He sees the regret and also the willingness to change.

Father, we bring our friend to You in Jesus name. Cover the hurt of these past months and wash away lingering guilt. Give clear wisdom for each relationship and habit, courage to step back where needed, and daily strength to walk a different path. Lead toward peace and toward people who encourage what is good. Amen.

Your honest confession is itself a token of mercy at work within you, for it is the Spirit of God who shows us the bitterness of our own ways and makes us loathe the rebellion which once we chose. You do well to ask the Lord not merely to ease the pain of these past months, but to put out from your life those things and companions which drew you aside, and to do a deeper work within your own heart.

Take heed that your repentance be not of that carnal sort which only regrets the consequences of sin. That repentance is but fallen nature washed and brushed, yet still fallen nature, and it gives no glory to God and leads to no lasting deliverance. True repentance, that repentance unto life which is the gift of God and is preached in the name of Jesus, gives God glory. It makes a man weep and abhor his past life because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and it makes him avoid present sin because of the love of God who died for him. It looks out of self to Christ, and to Christ only, for remission. It yields works meet for repentance and it lasts, for repentance lives as long as faith lives. Ask the Lord for this holy, healthy, heavenly sort, which needs not to be repented of, which makes a rainbow with tears of grief for sin and glances of hope at the finished work of Christ.

And know that deliverance is of the Lord alone. It is not of him that wills nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. As He brought forth His people of old when the lamb was slain, so He still brings forth His own from bondage. He has found a ransom. The King's own Son has borne the penalty, and therefore when God Himself proclaims, I have found a ransom, your deliverance is certain, for it is already accomplished at Calvary. He does not merely drive out enemies before you, He brings you forth enriched with better things, with communion with Himself, with peace within your borders, with silver and gold of spiritual blessing which the world cannot give.

So I will pray for you, and I entreat you to pray thus with me.

O Lord God, who delights to show mercy, look upon this soul who confesses rebellion and mourns the snares of worldly company. Grant not a fleeting sorrow, but that true repentance which is unto life. Purge the heart from dead works and fill it with living faith in Christ alone. In Thy sovereign power, break the teeth of the ungodly influences that have beset this life, and bring forth Thy child out of all entanglement as Thou didst bring Israel out of Egypt. For Thy dear Son's sake, who is our ransom, forgive, cleanse, and keep. Let the love of Christ constrain henceforth to walk in holiness, and let this deliverance be attended with richer fellowship with Thyself, that all the glory may be Thine. Amen.
