Addiction

We hear your cry for deliverance from the chains of addiction, and we stand with you in fervent prayer, lifting this burden before the throne of grace. Addiction is a fierce battle, but we serve a God who is greater than any stronghold. The Word of God declares, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB). You are not alone in this struggle, and the Lord has already provided a way out, His strength is made perfect in your weakness.

We must also address the reality of sin in addiction, for it is not merely a habit but a spiritual bondage that separates us from the fullness of life God intends. The Bible warns, "Don’t you know that when you present yourselves as servants and obey someone, you are the servants of whomever you obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness?" (Romans 6:16 WEB). Smoking and other addictive behaviors are not just physical dependencies; they are strongholds of the enemy that seek to steal, kill, and destroy. But Jesus came that you might have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10 WEB). He has broken the power of sin, and through His name, you can walk in freedom.

We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the mighty name of Jesus Christ! We command every chain to be loosed, every craving to be silenced, and every lie of the enemy that says you cannot overcome to be cast down. The Lord has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7 WEB). You are more than a conqueror through Christ who loves you (Romans 8:37 WEB). Do not be deceived, your deliverance is not found in your own strength but in surrendering fully to Jesus, who alone can break every yoke.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts heavy for our brother/sister who is battling addiction. We thank You that You are a God who hears the cries of Your children and delights in setting the captives free. Lord, we ask that You would break every chain of addiction in their life, whether it be smoking or any other stronghold. We declare that Your power is greater than any temptation, and we ask that You would fill them with Your Holy Spirit, granting them self-control, discipline, and a deep hunger for righteousness.

Father, we repent on their behalf for any area where they have yielded to sin, and we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing. Wash them in the blood of Jesus and renew their mind with Your truth. Help them to see themselves as You see them, a new creation in Christ, no longer bound by the past. Surround them with godly accountability, wise counsel, and a community of believers who will stand with them in prayer and encouragement.

Lord, we rebuke the enemy’s lies that say they cannot overcome. We declare that greater is He who is in them than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4 WEB). Strengthen their resolve to flee from temptation and to draw near to You. Provide them with practical steps to walk in freedom, and open their eyes to the resources and support You have placed in their path.

We thank You, Father, that You are faithful to complete the good work You have begun in them (Philippians 1:6 WEB). May they experience the joy of Your deliverance and walk in the fullness of life You have promised. We ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the only name by which we can be saved and set free. Amen.

Now, dear one, we encourage you to take practical steps alongside your prayer. Seek out a biblical counselor or a support group rooted in Christ, such as Celebrate Recovery, where you can find accountability and encouragement. Replace the time spent on addictive behaviors with prayer, Scripture reading, and fellowship with believers. Memorize verses that speak to God’s power over sin, such as Romans 6:12-14 WEB: "Therefore don’t let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. Also, do not present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God, as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin will not have dominion over you. For you are not under law, but under grace."

You are not fighting this battle alone. The Lord is with you, and so are we. Keep pressing into Him, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you will reap if you do not faint (Galatians 6:9 WEB). Your freedom is coming, hold fast to the promises of God!

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
