Deliverance from alcoholic addiction

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up in prayer, asking for Your mighty hand of deliverance to break the chains of addiction that have bound him. Father, we know that alcohol and smoking are not just physical struggles but spiritual battles as well. The Word tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." Lord, we pray that would recognize the sacredness of his body and the calling You have placed upon his life.
We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is written in James 4:7, "Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." We declare that is not subject to the lies of the enemy, which tell him he cannot overcome this battle. Instead, we proclaim that through Christ, all things are possible (Philippians 4:13). The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). We stand on this promise and ask for Your healing power to flow through , restoring his mind, body, and spirit.
Lord, we also lift up his job, finances, and family. These areas have been deeply affected by this addiction, and we ask for Your restoration. In Joel 2:25, You promise, "I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, My great army, which I sent among you." We claim this promise over ’s life. Restore what has been lost, mend what has been broken, and rebuild what has been torn down. Give him the strength to walk in integrity at his job, the wisdom to manage his finances according to Your principles, and the grace to rebuild trust and love within his family.
We must also address the spiritual foundation of ’s life. If he has not yet surrendered his heart to Jesus Christ, we pray that today would be the day of his salvation. Romans 10:9-10 tells us, "that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." There is no deliverance apart from the name of Jesus, for He alone has the power to break every chain. If has not yet invited Christ into his life, we pray that the Holy Spirit would convict him of his need for a Savior and draw him into a personal relationship with You.
Father, we ask that You surround with godly men who can walk alongside him in this journey. Proverbs 27:17 says, "Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance." Let him find accountability, encouragement, and strength in the company of believers who will pray for him, speak truth into his life, and help him stand firm in his faith. Lead him to a church or a ministry where he can grow in Your Word and find the support he needs.
We also pray for his family, that they would extend grace and patience while standing firm in their love and prayers for him. Help them to set healthy boundaries that encourage his growth and healing, and give them the wisdom to support him without enabling his addiction. May they find their strength in You, knowing that their hope is not in ’s ability to change but in Your power to transform.

We ask that You would reveal to the deeper issues in his heart and bring healing to those wounds. Psalm 147:3 says, "He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds." Let him find his fulfillment, peace, and identity in You alone. Teach him to cast his cares upon You, for You care for him (1 Peter 5:7).
We declare that is not defined by his addiction. He is a child of God, created for a purpose, and called to walk in freedom. Galatians 5:1 reminds us, "Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage." We pray that he would embrace this freedom and walk in the newness of life that Christ offers.
Heavenly Father, we ask for Your supernatural strength to be made perfect in ’s weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). When the cravings come, remind him of Your promises. When the enemy whispers lies, let him stand on Your truth. When he feels like giving up, fill him with Your hope. We believe that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us (Ephesians 3:20).
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the name by which every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord. It is by His blood that can be set free, by His power that he can overcome, and by His love that he can be restored. Amen.

If you are in a position to speak into ’s life, consider gently gathering a few trusted family members or friends who genuinely love him and, together, letting him hear the same steady message: “We see what’s happening, and we’re here, not to shame you, but to walk with you toward help.” That kind of unified concern can sometimes break through denial. Professional counseling, a recovery group, or a pastor-led support community can also become anchors for lasting change. None of that replaces prayer; it’s part of how God answers it.
Above all, keep loving him. Stay present. The enemy wants isolation; Christ moves through steadfast, patient love.

The pit of strong drink is deep, but the arm of the Lord is not shortened that it cannot save. I have seen the snare of alcohol and the bondage of smoking ruin many a man, dragging him from his labor, emptying his purse, and breaking the hearts of those who love him. Yet be not driven to despair, for God has found a ransom! Not by silver or gold, nor by your own resolve, but by the precious blood of Christ. Deliverance from the guilt and power of sin is solely the work of His free grace, it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy. Look to your heavenly Father altogether and alone for this deliverance, for as the Lamb was slain, the captives were brought forth. So Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed for you; trust in Him, and you shall know that He has delivered you from the power of darkness.
Do not think that your case is beyond hope because the chains feel so heavy. Job lost all, yet he sinned not, nor charged God foolishly; he fell upon the ground and worshipped. When the Lord chastened him sorely, he saw the hand of God and waited patiently for deliverance. Your addiction is a grievous affliction, but it is also a rod in the Father’s hand. Kiss the rod, and flee to the smiter. Cry out from the depths, and He will hear. Your own strength is utter weakness, like a bow that slackens with use, but He can renew your strength like the eagle’s. The deliverance He gives is effectual; He not only brings you forth, but He enriches you with silver and gold: peace of conscience, restored relationships, and a mouth filled with praise. After trouble comes the song of gratitude. If He sets you free, you shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. Your testimony shall be a well of encouragement to your household, and you shall magnify His tender indulgence towards the least of His family.
Repent, then, as Job did in dust and ashes, yielding all pleadings and challenges. Who is he that can contend with his Maker over a matter of holiness? You are wrong; God must be right. But His wrath is turned away through the ransom He has found. When the Lord turned the captivity of Job, it was when he prayed for his friends. Perhaps the Lord will use your coming deliverance to make you an intercessor for others still bound. Do not look at the wind and waves; speak not to the pitiless sea of your own efforts. Fix your eyes on Jesus, the Deliverer, who met His foes and fell upon their necks and kissed them. He will give you victory, not through your own struggling, but through His conquering grace. He is able to save to the uttermost all who come unto God by Him. Come now, and trust in that mighty name. Then, by His power, you shall walk in newness of life, and your family will see and rejoice, for what is impossible with men is possible with God.
