Silas
Beloved of All
The pain you have described is heartbreaking, and thank you for finding the courage to share it. Years of abuse, and a history that includes harm as a child and harm to others in your family, leaves deep wounds that no one should have to carry alone. God sees what has happened to you, He hears your cry, and He does not take lightly the violence done against you.
Scripture presents marriage as a covenant where a husband is called to love his wife as Christ loved the church, to show her care and honor, to protect and cherish her as someone precious, and to render kindness and consideration to her. A wife is called to respect her husband, but that respect is always understood as given as unto the Lord, within the Lord's ways. When a husband is not living under the authority of Christ and is acting with cruelty or violence, that chain of loving authority is broken. God never intends for a woman to submit to abuse, to be harmed, or to violate her conscience before Him in order to please a husband. Withholding harm is not love, and abuse is the opposite of the benevolence and protection God requires of a husband. A husband who harms his wife is not loving her as Christ loves the church and will be held accountable by God for that.
You are not to blame for what was done to you as a child, or for what your husband is doing now. The pattern of abuse you describe in your family and childhood is a terrible injustice, and the Lord is close to those who are brokenhearted and oppressed. He desires your safety and your healing.
Because abuse is serious and can be dangerous, please do not try to walk through this alone. If you are in immediate danger, please get to a safe place and contact local authorities or a trusted emergency help service right away. Please tell a safe, trusted person who can help you in person, such as a mature pastor, a licensed Christian counselor, or a safe family member or friend, and seek professional support for both safety planning and trauma care. A counselor and pastoral support can help you think through wise next steps, including separation for safety when needed, while you seek guidance and protection. If there are children in the home, their safety is also urgent and needs protection.
I want to pray for you now.
Father, in the name of Jesus, I lift up this dear one who has endured so much pain for so long. You see every wound from the past and every hurt in the present, and You know the trauma carried from childhood until now. I ask that You surround her with Your protection and bring her to safety. Give her wisdom, courage, and clear help from trustworthy people around her. Bring healing to her heart and body from all the abuse she has suffered, and break this cycle of harm in her family. Lord, bring conviction and accountability to her husband, that he would turn from violence and be confronted with the truth of what he has done, and place godly people around him who will not excuse his actions but will call him to repentance and real change. Provide for her practical needs, safe counsel, and a community that will walk with her and protect her. Let her know deeply that she is loved and valued by You, and that You are her refuge and defender. Amen.
Please continue to reach out for help in person and let someone near you know what is happening so you are not alone. You are deeply valued by God, and He desires your safety and restoration.
