Disciple of Prayer
To the all knowing and loving Father who cares for me and my family, grant me the wisdom and foresight necessary to pursue my passions and understand the true meaning of wealth. Allow my ### year old self to look after my ### and ### year old self, and allow me the wherewithal to apply the boundless information and knowledge I have access too. Do not lead me to wasting years or invaluable time in my search for fulfilment. In the process of applying this wisdom, allow me to maintain relationships with my family and friends, and attain a stable mental health. Lastly, Father, please deliver me with a sign that pursuit of my dreams will not fall through in my later years.

We join with you in bringing this request before our heavenly Father, and we thank you for your honest desire to seek wisdom, to steward your life well, and to care for your family and friends while you pursue what God has placed before you.

We hear your heart for wisdom and foresight, for not wasting the precious time God has given you, and for understanding what true wealth really is. Scripture tells us that true wisdom comes only from God. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. James 1:5. We also are reminded to number our days rightly, So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12. And we are called to walk carefully, Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise; redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16. Your desire to have your present self look after your future self is a godly desire for stewardship, and we pray God will give you diligence to apply the knowledge you have been given for His glory, not merely for your own fulfilment. A man’s heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps. Proverbs 16:9.

We also want to gently encourage you in how you view passion, wealth, and success. The world often defines wealth as accumulation and fulfilment as achieving our dreams, but the Word defines it differently. But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33. For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life? Matthew 16:26. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 1 Timothy 6:10. True wealth is found in knowing Christ, in godliness with contentment, in relationships rooted in love, and in a clear conscience before God. We pray that as you pursue your passions, you will first ask whether those passions align with God’s will and calling for your life, and that you will find fulfilment not in achievement itself but in faithful obedience to Him.

You asked to maintain relationships with family and friends and to attain stable mental health, and this is so important to the Father. He cares deeply for your peace of mind. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. We pray you will cast your anxieties on Him daily and walk in community, not in isolation, as you pursue your calling.

You also asked for a sign that your dreams will not fall through in later years. We understand the longing for assurance. God does give guidance and He gives peace as confirmation, but He calls us to walk by faith and trust rather than by demanding a sign. Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. Instead of looking for a dramatic sign, we encourage you to look for His steady hand through His Word, through prayer, through wise counsel, and through the quiet peace He gives when you are walking in His will.

We also want to lovingly point out that your prayer was addressed to the Father, but you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want you to know with certainty that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that we are saved. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to come to God in His name. It is in Jesus name that our prayers are heard.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We lift up this dear one to You and ask that You would pour out Your wisdom liberally upon them as You have promised. Give them a heart of wisdom to number their days, to redeem the time, and to steward the knowledge and opportunities You have placed before them. Lead them not into wasting years, but guide their steps so that their plans align with Your perfect will. Reveal to them the true meaning of wealth, that they would seek first Your Kingdom and find their fulfilment and security in You rather than in worldly gain. Guard their relationships with family and friends, help them to love well and to be loved well, and grant them stable mental health and the peace that surpasses all understanding as they cast every care on You. Help them to trust You without demanding a sign, to acknowledge You in all their ways, and to hear Your gentle direction through Your Word and Your Spirit. Draw them ever closer to Jesus, and let them know the assurance of salvation and access to Your throne through His name alone. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our hope and our redeemer, amen.

Thank you for sharing this so honestly. We hear how much you want to steward your life well, to use the knowledge you have, to pursue what you care about without wasting years, and to do it in a way that still protects your health and your relationships. That desire to let your older self care for your younger self is a wise way to think.

One thing that has helped others wrestling with these same questions is to separate information from wisdom. Information is abundant, but wisdom is learning to apply what matters most, step by step, over time. True wealth in that sense tends to show up not just in achievement, but in becoming the kind of person who can sustain a life, a family, and friendships through different seasons.

It can help to make that picture more concrete. You might try writing down, in plain language, what you hope your life looks like at 60 or 70, the character you want, the relationships you want to have kept, the work you want to have been faithful in, and then talk it through with one or two older, grounded people who know you well. They can often see patterns and blind spots we miss on our own, and help you test next steps before making big shifts. Taking one faithful next step and learning from it is usually steadier than waiting for a single sign to guarantee the future.

Father, we bring our friend to You and ask for clear wisdom for the decisions in front of them. Give them discernment to use what they have learned well, peace as they take one step at a time, and grace to nurture their relationships and health along the way. Lead them in Your will and keep them close to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer for wisdom is one which the Lord delights to answer, for He gives liberally and upbraids not those who ask of Him. You have done well to bring before the all knowing Father your desire for foresight, for a right understanding of wealth, for time well spent, for steadiness of mind and for faithfulness in your relationships.

Hear what the Scripture teaches concerning true wisdom. Wisdom is man's true path, the compass by which he is to steer across the trackless waste of life. Without it a man is as the wild ass's colt, running here and there and wasting strength which might be profitably employed. And where shall this wisdom be found. No mention shall be made of coral or of pearls, for the price of wisdom is above rubies, and it shall not be valued with pure gold. It is not to be found in the mere accumulation of information, though you have access to boundless knowledge, nor in the amassing of great wealth, though many trouble themselves aiming at that very thing and find that what they already possess does not satisfy. The wisdom you seek is found in Christ Himself, for Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. He planned the way of salvation, He laid the foundations of all that is, and in Him are hid all the treasures of wisdom. To know Him, to trust Him, to be called by Him, is to find the spring from which all right understanding flows.

You ask for wherewithal to apply what you know, and for grace not to waste years in the search for fulfilment. Remember that effectual calling is a gracious truth. If there is in your heart a desire to come to Christ, to force your way through every hindrance to get to Him, it is because Christ is calling you. He calls His sheep by name, as a father calls his own children, and they hear His voice and follow Him. Your calling, if it be of God, is a holy calling and a heavenly calling and a high calling, a call from heaven and a call to heaven, lifting the heart to set it upon heavenly things, upon eternity and holiness. Therefore press toward the mark for the prize of that high calling in Christ Jesus, and do not stop short of the heavenly Canaan to which He leads.

You ask also for a sign concerning your future, that your pursuit of what you love will not fall through in later years. I would point you to a better ground of confidence than any sign. The mind is the main thing, it will bring you daylight or midnight, peace or war. The very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. Some are troubled because they would amass great wealth, others because the cause of God seems to go amiss, but anxiety confined to yourself brings no good. Cast your care upon Him who is always with you, watching to see not only what you need but what you will need, noting not only your present dangers but those that are to be in the future. He will make a way of escape out of every temptation and will guide with His wisdom. Faith may be stronger in the future than it is today. By the grace of God it will be firmer and more robust, for we have tasted and handled the promises and being established in them we are not to be moved from the hope of our calling.

Let us pray together.

O Lord, who art Incarnate Wisdom, give to this thy child that true wisdom which is to trust in Thee. Teach what wealth truly is, that it is not gold but grace, not abundance of possessions but riches in Christ. Grant foresight and diligence to steward time well, to apply knowledge with humility and to seek first Thy kingdom. Keep in peace the mind that is stayed on Thee, and preserve in love the bonds of family and friends. Lift up this heart to heavenly things, and cause faith to grow stronger year by year, that looking back from later years there may be no regret for wasted time but joy in having followed Thy way, which is always best. Lead not into paths of mere ambition, but in the path of the truly wise, which is to walk humbly with God. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, who is our wisdom and our rest. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your desire for wisdom and foresight has been heard, and it is good that you ask God for wisdom rather than simply for success. Scripture teaches that true wisdom does not come from the abundance of information we can access, but from God Himself. The wisdom of this world is foolishness with God, and to become truly wise we must be willing to appear foolish in the eyes of the world, turning from our own understanding to seek what God calls good.

In your prayer you ask to understand the true meaning of wealth. This is a vital question, and the Scriptures give a clear answer. Neither wealth nor poverty is excellent in itself, but it is how we use what God entrusts to us that matters. Wealth brings many impediments. It can make a person more arrogant and less sober minded, and it often opens the door to fraud, excess and many other harms. Poverty, in contrast, can make the pursuit of virtue less laborious, not because being poor saves a person, but because it removes many temptations to pride and indulgence.

Wealth cannot depart with us when we leave this life. Here a person may be rich and have many things under his power, but he will depart naked and solitary. Whatever riches remain behind cannot help us then, and the wounds that wealth inflicts through greed and covetousness do depart with us to judgment. The true riches are those of eternal life, compared to which the wealth of this world is like dung. The Lord said it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven, not to condemn those who have resources, but to show how narrow the way is and how wealth can become a heavy burden that keeps us from entering. For this reason He sometimes takes wealth away, as a true Father would remove what enslaves His child, to free us from its service so that our affection for Christ may be made perfect.

You are not poor because you have little, and you are not rich because you have much. A person is poor who desires many things, and rich who stands in need of nothing because he has learned contentment in Christ. All we have, including wealth, speech, health, life itself and even our families, belongs to the Lord. We are stewards, not owners. To be faithful is to use what we have with mercy and sobriety, caring for our flesh only as far as health requires, and not making provision to fulfill its lusts through drunkenness, gluttony, vanity in dress or a soft and indulgent life.

You also ask for the wherewithal to use your time well and for a sign that your dreams will not fail. God does call us to be diligent and not to waste the years He gives us, for this present life passes like a sleep and its dreams of riches and achievement soon fly away. Yet the assurance we need is not found in a special sign demanded from God, but in trusting His promises and walking in His ways day by day. If we consider the vanity of wealth, the certainty that it cannot profit us at the last day, and the surpassing value of knowing Christ, our will can be turned toward what is sound and our minds can find deliverance from anxious striving.

We pray for you now.

Heavenly Father, all knowing and all loving, we come to You through Jesus Christ alone, in whom alone is salvation. Grant to this Your child true wisdom, not the wisdom of the world but wisdom from above that leads to sober mindedness, humility and love for You. Teach the true meaning of wealth, that contentment with what You provide is great gain, and help in using all that You entrust with generosity and mercy, especially toward those in need. Grant foresight to use time faithfully, to work diligently in the calling You have given, and to maintain love and faithfulness in family and friendships. Grant stable and clear mind, guarded by Your peace, and help to seek spiritual health above all else. Where there is anxiety about the future, replace the desire for a sign with confident trust in Your Word and Your providence, knowing that You care for Your children and will not forsake those who seek first Your kingdom. Lead not into the love of wealth which drowns men in destruction, but lead into life everlasting. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope. Amen.

Continue to seek wisdom in the Scriptures, in prayer, and in faithful fellowship with other believers who will speak the truth to you in love. If you set your hope on the riches that do not fade, you will find that your labor in the Lord is never wasted, and your future, whether in this life or the next, is secure in His hands.
