Wisdom

We join with you in asking our Father for wisdom regarding the two decisions before you, and we thank you for inviting us to pray with you.

We are reminded of the promise in James 1:5, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. Our God is generous and delights to give wisdom to His children when we ask in faith. We also cling to Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. And Psalm 32:8, I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you.

We encourage you as you seek His will to bring these decisions before Him continually in prayer, to search the Scriptures for His principles that apply, and to seek godly counsel from mature believers, for in Proverbs 11:14 we learn that in the multitude of counselors there is safety. Ask the Lord not only what to do, but to give you peace that confirms His leading, and to close doors that are not of Him and open the ones that are. True wisdom begins with the fear of Yahweh and a desire to honor Him above our own preferences or convenience.

We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 tells us, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We pray in His name because He alone made a way for us through His death and resurrection, and when we put our trust in Him as Savior and Lord we are reconciled to God and our prayers are heard.

We pray together now for you.

Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus. You know the two decisions that weigh on this heart, even though we do not know the details, You see them clearly. We ask You to pour out Your wisdom liberally, to grant clarity, discernment, and understanding. Help our friend to acknowledge You in all their ways, to not lean on their own understanding, and to trust You fully to make their paths straight. Give them a heart to obey what You reveal, courage to follow Your way even when it is difficult, and peace that surpasses understanding as they wait on You. Lead them by Your Spirit, instruct them and counsel them with Your loving eye upon them, and let the outcome bring glory to You and good to them. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and only Savior, amen.

We hear how much you want to honor God in these two choices, and we are praying with you for clear wisdom.

It is understandable to feel pressure when more than one big decision sits in front of you at once. Sometimes just naming each one separately helps. You might find it helpful to set aside some quiet time this week and write out each decision on its own page, what you hope to see happen if you choose one way or the other, what resources and wise people you have to talk it through with, and what alternatives you might not have considered yet. Then you can take one small committed step and give yourself time to notice how it sits before making the final call. Talking it through with a trusted pastor or mature friend can also bring perspective you cannot get alone.

We are asking God to meet you in that process with steadiness and peace as you seek His will.

Father, we lift this friend to You and ask for Your wisdom and guidance for these two decisions. Give clarity where there is uncertainty, and help each next step to be taken with confidence in Your care. Lead in the way that honors You and brings good. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have received your request and we join you in bringing these two decisions before the throne of grace, asking the Lord to grant you wisdom from above.

We are glad you have asked for wisdom, for wisdom is the compass by which a man is to steer across the trackless waste of life. Without it we run here and there as the wild asses colt, wasting strength, but with it we are made fit to walk in the way that pleases God. The price of this wisdom is above rubies and it is not found in the learning of this world, for the human wisdom of one age is the folly of the next. It is found only in Christ, who is the power of God and the wisdom of God, and in His Word.

We pray that God will give you what He has promised to give to all who ask Him. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him. Christ Himself has planned the way of salvation and laid the foundations of all true knowledge, and when we take Him for our Guide He infuses great principles within us, to avoid everything that is evil and to bow with submission to His will. By that very submission we are furnished with unerring guidance, for He has promised, Thou shalt guide me with Thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

Do not be hasty, for haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life. Wait upon the Lord in prayer, search the Scriptures, and seek counsel from His Word. Remember that holiness is as near akin to perfect wisdom as sin is to insanity, and the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. As Moses when he was come to years made a clear decision by faith in Jehovah, counting the reproach of Christ greater riches than all the treasures of Egypt, and as Joshua declared his resolve that he and his house would serve the Lord, so may you be enabled to weigh these matters deliberately and to choose that which is in agreement with the living God.

Our prayer for you is that the Lord will soften and sober your heart, give you knowledge and discretion, dress His wisdom in robes of love and tenderness to invite you, and make your path plain. May He keep you from leaning on your own understanding, and cause you to trust in Him with all your heart. May He show you clearly what is right and give you grace to follow it with a firm and open decision for His glory.

We will continue to pray that the God of all wisdom will guide you by His counsel in these two decisions and give you peace in following Him.
