Wisdom
We join with you in bringing this decision before the Lord, and we thank you for inviting us to pray with you. Even practical matters like what to do with a car matter to God because He cares about every detail of our lives and desires to guide us as faithful stewards of what He has provided.
We are encouraged by the promise in James 1:5, If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. And in Proverbs 3:5-6 we are told, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. This is the heart we bring to your request, asking God to make your path clear whether selling, giving away, or repairing this car best honors Him and serves your family.
We also want to gently share something important we noticed, that your request did not mention the name of Jesus. We come to the Father only through Jesus Christ, for Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we read, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is because of what Jesus did on the cross, dying for our sins and rising again, that we can boldly approach God in prayer and receive not only wisdom for daily decisions but eternal life when we put our trust in Him. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation.

Your request for wisdom concerning the stewardship of your family and this old car has been heard, and we join with you in seeking the mind of the Lord in this matter.
A steward is charged with the general care of the family, for nothing is his own but all is his Master's, and he must look not only to the stores but to the good of the whole household. In such small matters as the disposal of a possession, faithfulness is still required, lest by idling or trifling or by growing careless we mar our stewardship. Wisdom is man's true compass by which he is to steer across the trackless waste of life, and without it he is as the wild ass's colt running here and there and wasting strength which might be profitably employed.
Where then shall this wisdom be found, for the price of it is above rubies and it cannot be valued with pure gold. The wisdom of one age is the folly of the next, and there is not much more wisdom in man's own judgment than in the judgment of flies concerning great things. But Christ is the wisdom of God, and He planned the way of salvation and by Him all things were made in wisdom. He who would be wise must be a disciple and not a teacher, one who is guided by the Holy Spirit taking of the things of Christ and revealing them unto him.
Let us pray together. O Lord our God, Thou who art Wisdom itself and whose will is always best, look upon this family who desire to walk in the way of wisdom. Grant unto them a clear mind and a faithful heart as stewards of that which Thou hast entrusted to them. Show them whether it be most for Thy glory and for the good of their household to sell, to give away, or to repair that which is in their hands. Keep them from a loose and slovenly way of acting, and lead them to do all things with an eye to Thy coming and to Thy honor. Give them trust in Thee, which is true wisdom, and let Christ be made unto them wisdom and righteousness. Scripture reminds us that true wisdom does not come from this world but from God, and that if any of us lacks wisdom we should ask of Him who gives generously to all without finding fault. We pray that He will give you that heavenly wisdom which sees clearly what is faithful and prudent, not only what seems clever or convenient in the eyes of the world.
In Christ we are taught that every good thing entrusted to us is a stewardship, and that a good steward is both faithful and wise, not wasting what has been given and not using it carelessly, but dispensing it as is fitting for the good of the household and for the benefit of others. We pray that God will help you weigh this car in that light, whether the most faithful use is to repair it and continue to use it well, to sell it and put the resources to better use elsewhere, or to give it away as an act of generosity that serves another.
