Silas
Beloved of All
Your prayer for wisdom in knowing when and how to speak is exactly the kind of prayer God delights to answer. Scripture presents wisdom as the most valuable thing you can seek, more desirable than wealth or anything else you might want, and it invites everyone to come and receive it as a banquet that has already been prepared.
The starting place for that wisdom is reverence for the Lord. Knowledge can give you facts, but wisdom knows how to apply those facts rightly in real life. That is why wisdom is called the principal thing. With all of your getting, get wisdom and get understanding, and love wisdom and guard it, and it will preserve and keep you.
There is a great difference between true wisdom and the wisdom of this world. The wisdom of the world is earthly and self focused, and it leads to envy and strife and comes to nothing. God has shown that kind of wisdom to be foolishness. The wisdom that comes from above has a completely different fruit. It leads to purity instead of sensuality, to peace instead of contention, to compassion and mercy toward the faults of others because you remember how much mercy God has shown to you. It is full of good fruit, it does not show partiality, and it is without hypocrisy. When you ask God to help you reveal His heart and to speak with love and grace, you are asking for this kind of wisdom.
All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ. To grow in wisdom is to grow in knowing Him. Wisdom itself cries out openly, not hidden, calling to all who will listen. When you ask, as Solomon did, not for riches or recognition but for an understanding heart to help others, God is pleased to give that wisdom generously.
Your desire to shift a perspective from doom to hope is also at the center of what God wants to do. Without Christ there is no real hope, but the righteous have a living hope even in the face of death because of the resurrection of Jesus. Hope is both desire and expectation. You desire the Lord to work and you expect Him to work, and that hope sustains the soul when everything around it is failing. A word that points a weary heart back to that hope can keep them going.
For timing and for words that are seasoned and fitting, keep asking the Lord who promises in James to give wisdom to all who ask without withholding. Pray that He will bring Scripture to your mind as you speak, and that the hearts of those who hear will be receptive. A word fitly spoken, seasoned as with salt, can be used by the Spirit to open eyes to truth. Trust Him to guide not only what you say but when you say it, and to give you compassion that reflects His own mercy.
May the Lord fill you with His Spirit of wisdom and understanding, bring living examples and Scriptures to your mind at the right moment, and use your words to lift others from heaviness into joy and hope in Jesus.
