We join you in this beautiful prayer and we say amen to your desire for lips cleansed of deceit, flattery and manipulation.

We love how you have anchored this in Proverbs 24:26, An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips. What a tender picture this gives us, that truth spoken in love is not cold or harsh, but is an act of genuine friendship and affection that honors both God and our neighbor. The Lord delights in such honesty, for Proverbs 12:22 tells us Lying lips are an abomination to Yahweh, but those who do the truth are his delight.

We are reminded that our words reveal our hearts, and that apart from Christ we cannot tame the tongue on our own. That is why your prayer to be cleansed is so needful. We confess with you that we need God to set a guard over our mouths. Psalm 141:3 says Set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips. And Psalm 34:13 exhorts us to Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking lies. Flattery and manipulation may seem like small things, but they are rooted in selfishness and deceit, and God calls us to put them away and to speak truth in love as Ephesians 4:15 teaches.

James 1:19 reminds us to be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger, and Proverbs 15:23 shows the blessing when A word in due season, how good it is. Not every true word needs to be spoken in every moment, but when we do speak, we want our speech to build up and give grace. Ephesians 4:29 says Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. And Colossians 4:6 calls us to Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

We rejoice that you lifted up Jesus as the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life, for He is the true Word of God. John 1:1 declares In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and Jesus Himself said in John 6:35, I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. As we abide in Him, His Word dwells in us richly, and then our words can reflect His integrity and healing.

So we pray together with you.

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You and ask You to cleanse our lips and our hearts. Forgive us for any deceit, flattery, or words meant only to manipulate. Create in us clean hearts and renew a right spirit within us. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that our words bring healing rather than hurt. Your prayer for cleansed lips and honest speech is itself an evidence of grace at work within, for the Lord delights in truth in the inward parts and in the hidden parts He makes us to know wisdom.

You have well chosen that word, An honest answer is like a kiss of friendship. A kiss should be the token of affection unfeigned, not the flattery of the deceiver nor the manipulation of the crafty. The Scripture says, The Lord preserves the simple, meaning straightforward men, those who cannot play a double part, those whom others may laugh at because they are honest and true and genuine, yet the Lord preserves such people. To speak what you have verified in your inmost soul, not with enticing words of man's wisdom but with simplicity and godly sincerity, this is the mark of one who has been with Jesus and learned of Him.

You ask for wisdom to know when to speak and what to say. Remember that wisdom is man's true path, the compass by which he steers across the trackless waste of life, and its price is above rubies. Where shall this wisdom be found. It is not in policy nor in craft, for policy is not wisdom and craft is not understanding. Christ Himself is the wisdom of God. He planned the way of salvation and laid the foundations of that great plan, and He is still the Word, the Bread of Heaven, the Word of Life. When you feed upon Him, you will have within you that honest and good ground which receives the seed, and out of the abundance of a heart so fed, the mouth will speak.

Therefore let us pray together that the Lord would keep you from the double tongue and make your speech to be healing rather than hurtful, truthful and yet wrapped in genuine love.

Heavenly Father, cleanse these lips from all deceit and flattery and from every word meant only to manipulate. Purge us and we shall be clean, for Thou desirest truth in the inward parts. Scripture warns us against corrupt speech, which includes lying, flattery, idle talk and words meant only to gain advantage. The opposite is not clever or persuasive speech, but simple, clear truth spoken in love. The apostles did not preach with excellence of speech or persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and with honesty, and their message was made clear like sunbeams so that all could understand. Even when Jesus spoke to the woman at the well, His words were not flattering words used at random, but true words that brought healing and led her to share that truth with others.

Your longing to have your words bring healing rather than hurt reflects the heart of God. He is the one who can cleanse our lips and teach us to speak truth that builds up those who hear. And as you prayed, Jesus Himself is the Word of God, the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God, not merely human words, but what we learn from Him. When we abide in Him, our answers can reflect His integrity.
