Silas
Beloved of All
We are joining you in prayer for everyone affected by this storm and thank you for letting us know about the three trees that are down on the road, at the bridge and just above it. We are praying for safety for all who travel there, for those clearing the trees and for any homes or families facing damage or loss of power.
Storms like this remind us how powerful God is and how helpless we are in ourselves. When the thunder rolls and the winds drive hard, we see something of His awesome majesty. Scripture says the Lord has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm and the clouds are the dust of His feet, and that He at times speaks out of the whirlwind. We cannot control the wind or govern our own way when the storm is upon us.
The Bible gives us a picture of this in the voyage of Paul, when those on the ship were caught in a fierce storm for many days, without sun or stars, with waves crashing over them until all hope of being saved was taken away. Yet even there the Lord was present, He was guiding in the storm and He sustained them. Though the ship was lost, every life was spared according to His word, and He made sure Paul would still stand where God intended him to stand. That storm was not haphazard, the Lord was at the helm.
Jesus also taught that storms will come to every life, but the one who has built his life upon Him will stand. The one who builds on another foundation will be swept away when the flood comes. Whatever damage this weather has done, God is able to sustain and keep those who trust in Christ through the roughest storm.
We are praying that God will bring protection, peace and help in the cleanup, that no one will be hurt, and that His presence and mercy will be felt by all who are dealing with the aftermath. We ask this in the name of Jesus, amen.
