We hear your cry, dear sister in Christ, and we stand with you in the authority of Jesus’ name against the spiritual warfare that has relentlessly targeted you since your return to Him. The enemy seeks to isolate, discourage, and wound you through the very people you love, and we recognize the deep pain this causes. You are not alone in this battle, we take up the full armor of God with you, as Ephesians 6:12 reminds us: "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."
First, we must address the matter of your relationship with your boyfriend. Scripture is clear that marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, designed by God to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). However, the relationship you describe does not align with God’s design for courtship leading to marriage. The term "boyfriend" implies a romantic involvement outside of the commitment of marriage, and the instability caused by spiritual warfare in this relationship is a red flag. We must ask: Is this relationship honoring to God? Is it built on a foundation of mutual faith in Christ, or is it vulnerable to the enemy’s schemes because it lacks the protection of a godly covenant?
1 Corinthians 7:39 states, "A wife is bound by law for as long as her husband lives; but if the husband is dead, she is free to be married to whomever she desires, only in the Lord." This principle applies to both men and women, marriage is to be "only in the Lord." If your boyfriend is not firmly rooted in Christ, or if he is easily influenced by spiritual warfare, this relationship may not be the safe haven you long for. We must rebuke the lie that this relationship is your only source of love or security. Your identity and worth are found in Christ alone, not in the affections of another person.
We also must address the sin of fornication. Scripture is unequivocal: sexual intimacy outside of marriage is a violation of God’s commands (1 Corinthians 6:18-20, Hebrews 13:4). If this relationship involves physical intimacy, it is grieving the Holy Spirit and opening doors to further spiritual attack. We urge you to repent and seek God’s forgiveness, trusting Him to cleanse and restore you. Confess this sin before the Lord, and ask Him to give you the strength to honor Him with your body, as you are a temple of the Holy Spirit.
Now, let us pray for you with the authority of Jesus’ name:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Name above all names, the One through whom we have access to Your throne of grace. We lift up our sister who is enduring relentless spiritual warfare, and we declare that no weapon formed against her shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Lord, we rebuke the enemy’s schemes to use people in her life to wound her. We break every assignment of the enemy over her relationships, her mind, and her heart. We command every spirit of division, confusion, and strife to flee in Jesus’ name!
Father, we ask You to surround her with Your angels, as You promised in Psalm 91:11-12: "For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone." Protect her from the fiery darts of the enemy, and let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
Lord, we pray for wisdom and discernment regarding her relationship with her boyfriend. If this relationship is not Your will, give her the courage to walk away, trusting that You have something far better for her. If it is Your will for them to be together, we pray that You would draw him to repentance and a deeper relationship with You. Convict his heart of any sin, including the sin of fornication, and lead him to walk in holiness. Surround him with godly men who can disciple him and hold him accountable. Father, we ask that You would heal any wounds in their relationship caused by the enemy’s influence, and restore trust and love that honors You.
We declare that our sister is not a victim, she is a victor in Christ! We speak life over her, declaring that she is more than a conqueror through Him who loved her (Romans 8:37). Strengthen her faith, Lord, and remind her that You are her refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Fill her with Your joy, which is her strength (Nehemiah 8:10), and let her hope in You be renewed.
Finally, Lord, we ask that You would bring godly, Christ-centered relationships into her life, friendships and, if it is Your will, a future spouse who loves You above all else. Prepare her heart for the husband You have for her, a man who will lead her in righteousness, cherish her as Christ cherishes the Church, and stand with her against the enemy’s attacks. Until that day, let her find her completeness in You alone.
We pray all these things in the powerful, matchless name of Jesus Christ, the One who has already defeated the enemy at the cross. Amen.
Sister, we encourage you to stand firm in your faith. The enemy wants you to feel isolated and defeated, but God has not abandoned you. Here are some practical steps to take as you navigate this season:
1. Put on the Full Armor of God Daily: Ephesians 6:13-18 outlines the spiritual armor we must wear, truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God. Begin each day by putting on this armor in prayer, declaring your protection in Christ.
2. Flee Sexual Immorality: If this relationship involves sexual sin, repent and end that aspect of it immediately. God’s grace is sufficient to help you walk in purity. Seek accountability from a trusted, godly sister in Christ who can pray with you and encourage you in this area.
3. Seek God’s Will for the Relationship: Spend time in prayer and fasting, asking God to reveal His will for this relationship. If it is not His will, trust Him to close the door and provide healing. If it is His will, pray for His restoration and for your boyfriend to grow in his faith.
4. Guard Your Heart: Proverbs 4:23 warns, "Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life." Be cautious about investing emotionally in a relationship that is unstable or not rooted in Christ. Your heart is precious to God, and He wants to protect it.
5. Surround Yourself with Godly Community: The enemy thrives in isolation. Seek out a Bible-believing church where you can grow in your faith, find support, and build godly friendships. Let others stand with you in prayer and encouragement.
6. Renew Your Mind with Scripture: The enemy will try to fill your mind with lies, lies about your worth, your future, and God’s love for you. Combat these lies with the truth of God’s Word. Meditate on verses like Jeremiah 29:11, Romans 8:28, and Psalm 37:4-5.
7. Forgive Those Who Have Hurt You: Even when people are influenced by the enemy, their actions can wound us deeply. Choose to forgive them, not because they deserve it, but because Christ forgave you (Colossians 3:13). Forgiveness is a powerful weapon against the enemy’s schemes.
Remember, the battle you are facing is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces. You are not fighting for victory, you are fighting from victory. Jesus has already won the war, and He has given you authority over the enemy (Luke 10:19). Stand firm, sister, and trust that God is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28). You are deeply loved, and your future is secure in Him.
