Thank you for sharing your heart so openly. Your desire to wait on the Lord for a spouse is a beautiful expression of faith, and I want to pray for you and encourage you in it.
Waiting on God takes great faith. It means believing that He is in control and that He is working even when you cannot see it. That is why waiting can feel so difficult. We live in a world that tells us to take matters into our own hands, but so many problems are created when we step in to help God instead of trusting His timing. Scripture shows this clearly in the life of Abraham, when he tried to bring about God's promise in his own way and created great sorrow for himself and others. Learning the patience of hope, to wait on God's time with quiet confidence that He will act, is one of the most important lessons of the Christian life. True peace in your heart will grow as you rest more deeply in His grace, knowing that He loves you and is faithfully caring for you.
What you described about your conviction is also important to understand. A conviction like this is personal, between you and the Lord. When you live by it unto the Lord and with thanksgiving, He receives it. The same is true for another believer who may have a different leading. One person may feel led to wait quietly, another may feel freedom to take a different path, but each is to act as unto the Lord. For that reason you cannot pass your conviction on to someone else as a rule for them, and they should not judge you for following what you believe the Lord has shown you. It is also important not to think that having this conviction makes you more spiritual than someone else. We are all sons and daughters of God by adoption through Jesus Christ, and we are all learning to be led by His Spirit. The question for each of us is simply, am I seeking to know His will and follow it as He leads me.
It is not surprising that you have faced pushback, even from other Christians. When God puts a clear leading in your heart, opposition often follows and can make you question what you heard. Do not be discouraged by that. Bring those questions back to the Lord in prayer, stay in His Word, and ask Him to confirm and strengthen what He has spoken to you. If this leading is from Him, He will give you the grace to hold it with humility and with love toward those who do not understand.
I am praying for you now. Father, I bring this dear one before You in the name of Jesus. Thank You for the tender heart that wants to trust You fully with the future and with marriage. Give clear assurance of Your will, and give strength to wait with hopeful patience on Your perfect timing. Guard this heart from doubt and from discouragement when others do not understand. Fill this life with the knowledge of Your grace, so that Your peace will guard heart and mind. Lead by Your Spirit day by day, and help to follow You with joy and thanksgiving. Keep this life pure and close to You, and in Your time, provide all that is needed according to Your loving wisdom. Amen.
