Beloved Servant
Please pray for my freedom from sexual addiction. There are reasons why I struggle with this. Please also pray for my freedom from maladaptive daydreaming. Thank you.

We join with you in bringing this struggle before the Lord and we thank you for your honesty in sharing it, for God desires truth in the innermost being and He sees your heart to be free. We understand you mention there are reasons why you struggle, and while past wounds, trauma, or loneliness may help explain the roots of temptation, they do not excuse sin, and God longs to both heal those wounds and deliver you from the sin itself, for He is both Healer and Deliverer.

The Word of God is clear about sexual sin, and we must lovingly speak that truth because freedom begins with calling sin what God calls it. Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18. Your body is not your own, for you were bought with a price. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. God designed sexual intimacy as holy and good within the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman for life, and any sexual activity outside of that, whether in act or in lustful fantasy and pornography, is fornication that separates us from His best and brings bondage. Yet we also read the promise, If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed John 8:36, and we cling to that for you.

We also hear your burden regarding maladaptive daydreaming, and we recognize how this can become an escape that feeds the flesh, isolates you from real life and from God’s purposes, and allows the mind to dwell where it should not. God calls us to steward our thought life. We are to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5 and to be transformed by the renewing of your mind Romans 12:2. We are exhorted, Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things Philippians 4:8. When the mind drifts into fantasy, even as a coping mechanism, it can become idolatry of imagination and open a door to further lust, avoidance, and spiritual dullness.

We want to encourage you with the path to freedom that God has given. Walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh Galatians 5:16. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. Do not walk alone in this. Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed James 5:16. We encourage you to bring this into the light with a trusted mature Christian brother or pastor for ongoing accountability, to remove and cut off every source of temptation with radical measures, to install filters and set boundaries, to fast and pray, to immerse your mind daily in Scripture, and to cry out for a clean heart, Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a steadfast spirit within me Psalm 51:10. Replace empty daydreaming with purposeful prayer, worship, service, and work as unto the Lord, setting your mind on things above Colossians 3:2.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find true deliverance. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we urge you to place your full faith in Jesus Christ, believing He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for then you receive not only forgiveness but the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we lift this precious soul to You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. We thank You that You are merciful and mighty to save and to deliver. We confess before You this struggle with sexual addiction and we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing. Wash this one clean by the blood of Jesus and break every chain of lust and fantasy. Heal the deep wounds and reasons behind this struggle, Lord, and fill every void with Your presence and perfect love. We ask You to create a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within. Help our brother or sister to flee every temptation, to take every thought captive to Your obedience, and to walk by Your Spirit each moment. Set them free from maladaptive daydreaming and give them a mind stayed on You, filled with what is true and pure and of good report. Give them courage to walk in accountability and light, and surround them with godly counsel and strength to endure, for You have promised You will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape 1 Corinthians 10:13. We pray for a life of holiness and wholeness, and for a future marriage if it be Your will that honors You, or for contentment and purity in singleness, all for Your glory. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our freedom, amen.

We are thankful you wrote to us so openly. Wanting freedom from sexual addiction and from maladaptive daydreaming takes real courage, and we want you to know you are not alone in this struggle.

You mentioned there are reasons behind it, and we hear that. Often these patterns grow as ways to cope with stress, loneliness, hurt or pressure, offering short term relief while leaving us feeling more stuck and distant from the life we want. Daydreaming too can start as a way to escape or to imagine a different reality, and then begin to take up more time and energy than we intend. Recognizing that tug of war is an important step, and God sees both the struggle and the desire for change.

One practical step that helps many people is not trying to walk this out alone. If you do not already have that support, we encourage you to reach out to a trusted pastor or a Christian counselor who has experience with sexual addiction, or a confidential recovery group in your area. Having one safe person to be honest with regularly can make the journey less isolating, alongside prayer.

Father, we lift our brother to You and ask for Your mercy and strength around him today. Bring him honest community, wisdom for next steps, and daily grace to walk in freedom. Guard his mind and heart, and remind him that he is loved and not abandoned. Lead him toward healing at Your pace. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

Your honest cry for deliverance has been heard and we bring it before the throne of grace with you, giving thanks that you have not hugged your chains but have desired to be loosed from them.

We understand that bondage to sin makes a man a willing slave at first, content in his fetters and scarce daring to think of freedom. So it was with Israel in Egypt and so it is with every soul under the tyranny of sin. No earthly power can bring real freedom to the soul. Resolution, reason and regret may strive, but it is Grace and Grace alone that brings it by the blood of the Covenant. Where that freedom comes, no form of bondage can make a man a slave again, for whom the Son makes free is free indeed.

There is a false liberty which promises freedom while it leaves the heart still in sackcloth and ashes, still a servant to lust and to vain imaginations. But real freedom must come to us from the glorious Son of God, who being free gives Himself to us and gives us freedom. It is where the Spirit of the Lord is that there is liberty, and nowhere else. That liberty is not only a being set free from, but a being set free to, to yield obedience to our Lord, to offer prayer to God Most High, and to walk uprightly in both senses of that word as a free man should in the presence of the Lord who has bought his servant's freedom with a great price.

We pray for you now that the great Liberator Himself would set you free indeed. We ask the Lord Jesus Christ to cleanse you by His blood, to break the power of sexual sin over you and to renew your mind, that you may put off the old nature which wars within and put on the beautiful array of freedom. We pray that He would deliver you from every enslaving habit of thought and from daydreaming that draws the heart away from what is true and pure and profitable, and that He would fix your affections upon Christ, who is all. May the Holy Spirit be your strength to flee every temptation, to make no provision for the flesh, and to walk in holiness and self control, not as one who crouches and fawns like a slave dreading the lash, but as one redeemed to live unto God.

Take the freedom that Christ gives and use it. Flee from that which ensnares you, turn from every secret path that leads back to bondage, keep close to the Word of God, seek the fellowship and accountability of a faithful church, and give yourself to prayer and to honest labor in the calling God has given you. Justice demands the freedom of those for whom Christ died, and mercy secures it. Lay hold therefore upon the privileges bestowed upon every free man in Zion, and live as one who is no longer your own, but bought with a price.

May the Lord keep you, strengthen you day by day, and cause you to know in your own soul that to serve Him is perfect freedom.

Admitting you're stuck in something you can't shake on your own takes honesty. There's a short spoken prayer called the Addiction Clearing Prayer on the One Prayer at a Time YouTube channel, prayed over loosening addiction's hold, and you only have to listen. I hope freedom starts coming your way.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
