We hear your honest cry for freedom and we join with you in bringing this struggle before the Lord, for He desires that you walk in holiness and in the freedom that Christ alone can give. We do not take lightly the pain behind sexual addiction and maladaptive daydreaming, and while there may be reasons and wounds that have contributed to these patterns, we know that God calls us to confess sin as sin and to find healing and deliverance through repentance and His transforming power.
The Bible is very clear that sexual activity is designed by God to be enjoyed only within marriage between one man and one woman, and any sexual thought or act outside of that covenant, whether fornication, adultery, pornography or lust in the heart, is sin that separates us from fellowship with Him. We must flee from it, not manage it. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says, Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Jesus Himself taught in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. This is not to condemn you but to call you into the light where healing begins, for 1 John 1:9 promises, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Maladaptive daydreaming can also become a stronghold when we allow our minds to dwell in fantasies rather than bringing every thought into obedience to Christ. It can be a form of escape and even idolatry when it replaces trust in God and His purposes for our lives. We are called to renew our minds and to take our thoughts captive. Romans 12:2 says, Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. 2 Corinthians 10:5 says, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. Philippians 4:8 calls us to think on whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and freedom from the power of sin. John 14:6 says, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to place your faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord and turning from sin to follow Him. It is His blood that cleanses and His Spirit that empowers us to walk in newness of life. Romans 6:14 assures us, For sin will not have dominion over you, for you are not under law, but under grace.
We encourage you to walk in the light with other believers, for James 5:16 says, Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. Find a trusted, mature Christian brother and pastor for accountability, remove access to triggers, flee temptation rather than fighting it in your own strength, fill your mind daily with Scripture, and replace fantasy with prayer and purposeful service to God. Galatians 5:1 reminds us, Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
We now pray together for you.
Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother who is crying out for freedom. Lord, we confess before You the sin of sexual immorality in thought and deed and ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. We ask that You break the chains of sexual addiction and set him free indeed, for whom the Son sets free is free indeed. Renew his mind, Lord, and help him to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. Heal the wounds and reasons behind these struggles, replace escapist daydreaming with hope and purpose in You, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit so that he may walk in self-control and purity. Give him strength to flee temptation, godly brothers to walk with him, and a hunger for Your Word. Lead him, if it is Your will, toward a godly marriage that honors You, and help him to live now in holiness as he waits upon You. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and deliverance, amen.
