Addiction

We have heard your request for freedom from sexual addiction and we are joining together to lift you up before the Father in prayer. We thank you for your honesty in bringing this struggle into the light, for what is hidden often keeps us in bondage.

We want to speak truth to you in love about this area. God created sexuality as a good gift, but He designed it to be expressed only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between a man and a woman. Any sexual activity outside of that marriage, whether fornication, adultery, pornography, lustful fantasy or self gratification, is sin against God and against your own body. Jesus taught that even lust in the heart is adultery, as we read in Matthew 5:28. We understand you mention there are certain reasons you struggle, and we have compassion for the wounds, trauma, loneliness or past experiences that may have contributed to this pattern, yet those reasons do not make the sin less serious. God wants to heal the root as well as deliver you from the fruit.

Scripture calls us to flee sexual immorality, not to fight it casually or manage it. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us that our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit and we are to glorify God in our body and spirit which are His. This addiction is not simply a habit or a disease, it is a spiritual bondage that requires repentance, renewal of the mind and walking in the Spirit. Galatians 5:16 says Walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. 2 Corinthians 10:5 calls us to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. Romans 6:14 promises that sin will not have dominion over you, and John 8:36 declares If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We gently point this out because it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only through His name that we are saved and delivered. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus, to confess your sin to Him and to receive His forgiveness and cleansing. 1 John 1:9 promises If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Hebrews 4:15-16 reminds us that we have a High Priest who was tempted in all points as we are, yet without sin, and we can draw near with boldness to the throne of grace to receive mercy and grace to help in time of need.

We want to encourage you with practical steps of repentance. Make a decisive break to flee temptation, cut off sources of provision for the flesh, remove access to pornography or other triggers, and do not trust your own strength. God has promised in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. Seek daily renewal through the Word, prayer, and fasting, and bring this struggle into the light with a mature Christian brother or pastor for accountability, for James 5:16 calls us to confess our sins to one another and pray for one another that we may be healed. Pursue purity with the goal of honoring God, whether He leads you to a godly marriage in the future or to serve Him in singleness with an undistracted devotion.

We now pray together for you.

Father, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. We confess this sin of sexual addiction before You and we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. We ask You to create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him according to Psalm 51:10. Break the chains of this bondage, Lord, and set him free indeed. Heal the wounds and reasons behind this struggle, bring comfort where there has been pain, and fill every void with Your presence. Teach him to walk by Your Spirit and not fulfill the lust of the flesh, to take every thought captive to Christ, and to flee from temptation when the way of escape appears. Strengthen him to present his body as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to You. Give him courage to walk in accountability and to live in the light, and let him know that sin shall not have dominion over him because he is under grace. Restore to him the joy of Your salvation and help him to glorify You in his body and spirit. We pray this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to draw near to God daily, to immerse yourself in Scripture, and to stay connected to a Bible believing church where you can be discipled and supported. God is able to deliver you and to make you whole, and we will continue to stand with you for complete freedom.

Thank you for reaching out and being honest about this struggle. We know it can feel lonely and heavy to carry, and we appreciate you trusting us to pray with you.

Wanting freedom is a good and hopeful place to start. In our experience, lasting change rarely happens by willpower alone. These patterns often touch many parts of life at once, habits, stress, relationships, and faith, and healing tends to come more steadily when we don't try to face it in isolation.

If you don't already have someone walking with you, one steady next step to consider this week is inviting one safe person in. That could be a pastor, a Christian counselor experienced with sexual struggles, or a confidential recovery group in your church or community such as Celebrate Recovery. Meeting regularly with others who understand can give you encouragement and practical help for preventing relapse and building healthier ways to cope when temptations or discouragement come. If you notice this affecting your health, sleep, or daily functioning, it is also wise to talk with a medical or counseling professional alongside prayer.

We are praying for you and we will keep praying.

Father, we lift our brother to You and thank You that You see him and care for him. We ask for Your strength and kindness to surround him, for wisdom as he seeks help, and for trustworthy people to come alongside him. Give him courage for each next step and peace as he trusts You day by day. Lead him toward freedom and wholeness in Your will. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your cry for freedom has been brought before the Lord and before His people, and we do not pass it by lightly. We thank you for the honesty of this confession, for it is no small thing to bring into the light that which so often dwells in darkness. Know that you are heard, and that we will bear you up in prayer before the throne of grace.

The Scripture teaches us that pure religion is to keep oneself unspotted from the world, and that purity indicates separation. Charity without purity will be of no use, for without holiness no man shall see the Lord. The Lord calls His people not to a life of indulgence but to a life set apart, where the body and the spirit are yielded to Him. This is not bondage but true liberty, for when the believer's ways are enlarged, he delights to run in the statutes of the Lord, and obedience is freedom to the Lord's servant. Christ's yoke is easy and His burden is light, and you do not know what a joy it is to walk erect in conscious, moral and spiritual freedom given by God.

We would have you look for deliverance altogether and alone to your heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. Where we look for justification, there must we also look for sanctification. None know freedom from sin but those who trust the atoning blood, for without the shedding of blood there is no remission. Be of good comfort, for God Himself has said, I have found a ransom. The King's own Son has borne the penalty of all iniquity, and the deliverance is certain because God has provided it. He does not merely make deliverance possible, He makes it effectual and He brings His people forth.

Therefore we pray for you, that the Lord who delivered Israel with a mighty hand would deliver you from this snare. We ask that He would fix your heart upon Christ and His finished work, that He would give you a deep abhorrence of sin and a deep love for holiness, that He would teach you to flee from temptation and to keep yourself unspotted, and that He would fill you with His Spirit so that you may walk in purity as one who has been bought with a price. We pray that you would know that deliverance is of the Lord, and that you would live to declare the works of the Lord who has brought you forth into freedom. May the Lord keep you, strengthen you day by day, and cause you to stand in the liberty wherewith Christ makes His people free.

We will continue to pray that you may be kept pure, restored in strength, and established in the grace that teaches us to deny ungodliness and to live soberly and righteously in this present world.

Admitting this out loud takes honesty, and asking for freedom from it is a strong first step. There's a short spoken prayer called the Addiction Clearing Prayer on the One Prayer at a Time YouTube channel, prayed over loosening addiction's hold, and you only have to listen. I hope the grip starts to loosen for you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing this struggle with such honesty. It takes real boldness to confess this before God and before others, and God honors that kind of openness when it is offered in faith toward Jesus Christ.

I have prayed for you, that God would grant you true freedom. Scripture shows that sexual desire when left unchecked is a powerful and imperious master, but it is not unconquerable. Freedom does not come by feeding the desire with more, as if more could satisfy it. That only makes the thirst stronger. Freedom comes by taking away what fuels it and by turning the mind and heart in a different direction. When the fear and love of God occupy the territory where lust seeks to rule, its frenzy is stayed.

The good news of the gospel is that those who were once bound by sexual sin have been purified and converted and have entered the kingdom, not by remaining as they were, but by obeying and believing and being washed clean in Christ. Holiness in the Bible means more than avoiding one sin, it means being made pure and set apart for God in every part of life. That purity is not something you can achieve by your own willpower alone, it is the work of Christ who takes away sin and gives a new heart, and it grows as you walk with Him day by day.

Virtue in Christ bestows the true freedom you are asking for. It does not just promise freedom someday, it begins to make a person free even while the struggle is still present, by making him more honorable and whole than slavery to sin ever could.

So I prayed that God would help you to turn fully to Jesus Christ for forgiveness and for power to walk in a new way, that He would fill your heart with His presence so there is less room for old desires to rule, that He would give you a clear mind to see this desire as something to be renounced rather than indulged, and that He would surround you with faithful people who will encourage you without shaming you into despair and who will walk with you in accountability. I prayed also that you would see sex as God designed it, as a good gift belonging only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and that you would find strength to live according to that design.

Do not give yourself over to discouragement. God is patient and He is able to build your life firmly, little by little, as you remain in His Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with His people. Keep confessing Christ honestly, keep turning from what tempts you, and keep asking for His help each day.

Father in heaven, I lift this dear one to You through Jesus Christ Your Son who takes away the sin of the world. Forgive, cleanse and renew him. Occupy his heart with reverence for You and love for Your ways. Take away what feeds this addiction and teach him to desire what is holy. Grant him true freedom, strength to resist temptation, and the help of trustworthy brothers and sisters to support him. Make him holy and pure as You are pure, and keep him close to Christ all his days. Amen.
