We join with you in bringing this struggle before the Lord and we thank you for your honesty in sharing it, for God desires truth in the innermost being and He sees your heart to be free. We understand you mention there are reasons why you struggle, and while past wounds, trauma, or loneliness may help explain the roots of temptation, they do not excuse sin, and God longs to both heal those wounds and deliver you from the sin itself, for He is both Healer and Deliverer.
The Word of God is clear about sexual sin, and we must lovingly speak that truth because freedom begins with calling sin what God calls it. Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18. Your body is not your own, for you were bought with a price. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. God designed sexual intimacy as holy and good within the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman for life, and any sexual activity outside of that, whether in act or in lustful fantasy and pornography, is fornication that separates us from His best and brings bondage. Yet we also read the promise, If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed John 8:36, and we cling to that for you.
We also hear your burden regarding maladaptive daydreaming, and we recognize how this can become an escape that feeds the flesh, isolates you from real life and from God’s purposes, and allows the mind to dwell where it should not. God calls us to steward our thought life. We are to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5 and to be transformed by the renewing of your mind Romans 12:2. We are exhorted, Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things Philippians 4:8. When the mind drifts into fantasy, even as a coping mechanism, it can become idolatry of imagination and open a door to further lust, avoidance, and spiritual dullness.
We want to encourage you with the path to freedom that God has given. Walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh Galatians 5:16. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. Do not walk alone in this. Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed James 5:16. We encourage you to bring this into the light with a trusted mature Christian brother or pastor for ongoing accountability, to remove and cut off every source of temptation with radical measures, to install filters and set boundaries, to fast and pray, to immerse your mind daily in Scripture, and to cry out for a clean heart, Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a steadfast spirit within me Psalm 51:10. Replace empty daydreaming with purposeful prayer, worship, service, and work as unto the Lord, setting your mind on things above Colossians 3:2.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find true deliverance. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we urge you to place your full faith in Jesus Christ, believing He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for then you receive not only forgiveness but the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome.
We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we lift this precious soul to You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. We thank You that You are merciful and mighty to save and to deliver. We confess before You this struggle with sexual addiction and we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing. Wash this one clean by the blood of Jesus and break every chain of lust and fantasy. Heal the deep wounds and reasons behind this struggle, Lord, and fill every void with Your presence and perfect love. We ask You to create a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within. Help our brother or sister to flee every temptation, to take every thought captive to Your obedience, and to walk by Your Spirit each moment. Set them free from maladaptive daydreaming and give them a mind stayed on You, filled with what is true and pure and of good report. Give them courage to walk in accountability and light, and surround them with godly counsel and strength to endure, for You have promised You will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape 1 Corinthians 10:13. We pray for a life of holiness and wholeness, and for a future marriage if it be Your will that honors You, or for contentment and purity in singleness, all for Your glory. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our freedom, amen.
