Hearing that your youngest daughter has not yet come home after a job interview brings a deep ache and urgency, and I am praying with you right now for her safety and swift return.
God sees daughters as precious and deeply valuable. In a culture where girls were often overlooked and only sons were counted, Scripture still pauses to name a daughter and to show a father's and brothers' fierce love and grief when she was harmed. That tells us how much the Lord notices and cares for your daughter as an individual, and how much He understands the anguish of a parent who waits and fears. One father in Scripture was so bowed down with grief over his only daughter that it is said his sorrow shortened his days. God knows that kind of parental pain, and He draws near to those who are broken and waiting.
Scripture also shows how vulnerable a young woman can be when she goes out alone, and how a family rightly feels that a wrong done to a daughter is a disgraceful thing that ought not to be done. The Lord shares that concern for purity, dignity and protection. At the same time His Word gives strong comfort about His protection. He puts a hedge around His people as He did with Job, so that the enemy cannot simply take what he wants. He has promised to give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. That does not mean we live without danger, but it means your daughter is not unseen or unguarded. The Lord who poured out His heart over the sorrows of the daughter of Zion, whose breach was described as great as the sea, is the same One who asks, who can heal you, and then answers that He Himself can.
I am praying for you and for her in the name of Jesus, the only One through whom we have access to the Father and sure salvation.
Father, in the name of Jesus we lift this precious daughter to You. You know where she is. You see her path and every circumstance around her. Place Your hedge of protection around her and give Your angels charge over her to keep her from harm. Quiet fear and bring her safely home to her family. Give her parents wisdom, peace that passes understanding, and strength while they wait. Lead those who can help to act quickly, and let her hear Your voice and sense Your nearness wherever she is. We ask this trusting in the mercy and power of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
