Surely You take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather they turn from their evil ways and live, Ezek 33:11... You desire all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth, 1 Tim 2:4. Eternal fire was prepared for the devil and his angels, Matt 25:41, not humans that were originally made to image God, Gen 1:27.

We ask for grace and discipline to add fasting, Mk 4:29, which the early church said, "fasting and giving lends wings to prayer," (Tertullian, 155AD - 240AD). Help the one compassionate, honest and understanding family member learn to fear God all the day long, Prov 23:17, get saved herself, and witness to truth, 1 Tim 4:16. Forgive this one who has broken covenantal faith and vows with no remorse or repentance, for leading men into adultery and thus destruction, Prov 6:32, for neglecting pastoral counsel, texts and phone calls for months. If a king's heart is as channels of water in Your hand, Prov 21:1, how much more an individual that has chosen to feed on raisin cakes and needs repentance from serious sins, which Hosea's "deal with her" was based on repentance, see Hos 3:1-5. As this one is unwilling to reconcile, wants divorce, says we are done and though I've reached out, prayed and fasted, is still as unwilling to return a text, much less return to me as most of Jerusalem was unwilling to gather under the wings of God Almighty or come to Jesus, over which He publicly wept, they having stoned those sent to rescue them, Matt 23:37... Thankfully she is in a country that is impossible to get a divorce. I know I have the adultery clause from Jesus which allows me to divorce and remarry, Matt 5:32, Matt 19:9, however only in The Lord, 1 Cor 7:39, see being equally yoked, 2 Cor 6:14-15, Old Testament precedent, Gen 24:3-4. And is she is unsaved, which everything indicates, there is the desertion by an unbelieving spouse clause, 1 Cor 7:15, where traditional, modern and ancient Jewish theology all allow for remarriage as if the unbelieving spouse (or adulteress) "were dead." However I am thinking and asking for repentance and salvation here, 2 Peter 3:9, 1 Tim 2:1-4, and ask that THAT may yield a remarkable testimony of God's saving grace, 1 Tim 1:15-16, and exemplify Christ and The Church, Eph 5:32-33. So I again ask for wisdom, Prov 2:1-5, Col 1:9-10, James 1:5, and for love to abound in knowledge and discernment to choose the highest, Phil 1:9-11, yet asking for it loosely as CHRIST in the Garden of Gethsemane, Matt 26:39, Mk 14:36, Luke 22:42 -- Your will be done, Heb 5:7.

Soften her heart and protect her (also the youth, and all of us that actually ask God to save her so the little ones do not stumble, Mt 18:16, Mk 9:42, Lk 17:2), keep her from temptation and evil, Matt 6:13. Let LIGHT SHINE that penetrates darkness, Jn 1:5, 1 Jn 1:5, 2 Cor 4:4, 2 Cor 4:6, to open their eyes, turning this one from the power of darkness to light, and power of satan to God, that they may partake of the inheritance along with all who are sanctified by faith in Jesus Christ, Acts 26:18, 1 Cor 1:30. Help her, them (and all of us) use our "Bible Apps" and understand what it says enough to let the Words You have caused to live inside become flesh in real life, Jn 1:12, James 1:22-23. Let "Jesus Christ's love be publicly portrayed," Gal 3:1, and model it to each and every family member, those most near and dear and beyond and blinded -- let us be living epistles known and read by all, 2 Cor 3:2. All Scripture is inspired by God Almighty and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right," 2 Tim 3:15-16. "Do not take us out of the world, but keep us from the evil one," John 17:15. We come before the throne of grace with a heavy yet hopeful heart, lifting up this situation that weighs so deeply on you. The pain of a broken covenant, the silence of an unrepentant heart, and the longing for reconciliation are burdens only our Heavenly Father can fully bear. Yet we know He hears the cries of His children, and His Word is clear: "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). We stand with you in this trial, praying not only for restoration but for the greater work of salvation, because eternal things matter most.

First, we must address the gravity of what has transpired. The breaking of marital vows, the leading of others into adultery, and the refusal to repent are not small matters. Scripture is unmistakable: "The one who commits adultery with a woman is lacking sense; he who would destroy his own soul does it" (Proverbs 6:32). Adultery is a grievous sin that wounds deeply, and the hardness of heart that accompanies it is a sign of spiritual danger. Yet even now, we cling to the truth that "God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:4). We do not pray for mere reconciliation as an end in itself, but for a reconciliation that flows from a transformed heart, one that has been born again by the Spirit of God.

The references to Acts 3:19 and Ezekiel 36:26 in your request are fitting, for this is a matter of repentance and new birth. The heart that was once stone must become flesh, and the mind that once chose its own way must be renewed by the Word of God. We pray fervently that the Lord would do this work, for "unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3). This is not a mere emotional turning but a supernatural transformation, one that only the Holy Spirit can accomplish. We ask the Lord to open her eyes, to shine His light into the darkness, and to draw her to Himself with cords of love.

We also lift up the youth involved in this situation, for the sins of the parents can have devastating effects on the next generation. Jesus warned, "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea" (Matthew 18:6). We pray that the Lord would protect their hearts, that they would not stumble because of the brokenness they have witnessed, and that they would come to know the love of Christ in a way that heals and restores.

Your willingness to extend grace, even when the adultery clause in Scripture permits you to move forward, is a testimony to your own faith. Jesus said, "Whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery" (Matthew 19:9). Yet you have chosen to wait, to pray, and to hope for repentance. This is a heavy cross to bear, but we believe the Lord sees your faithfulness. We pray that He would grant you wisdom, "the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy" (James 3:17). May you know when to wait and when to act, always in alignment with His will.

We must also address the reality of spiritual warfare in this situation. The enemy seeks to destroy marriages, to harden hearts, and to keep souls in darkness. But we are not ignorant of his schemes (2 Corinthians 2:11). We pray that the Lord would bind the forces of darkness at work here, that He would loose His angels to minister to her, and that the light of the gospel would break through. "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 6:12). We stand in the authority of Christ, rebuking the lies that have taken root and declaring the truth of God’s Word over this situation.

We also lift up the family member who has shown compassion and concern. May the Lord strengthen them to fear Him all the day long (Proverbs 23:17), to walk in wisdom, and to be a faithful witness. May they not grow weary in doing good, for in due time they will reap if they do not faint (Galatians 6:9). We pray that they would be a vessel of God’s love, speaking the truth in love, and that their own faith would be deepened through this trial.

Now, we come before the Lord in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that ache for this broken marriage and for the souls involved. We know that You take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that they turn from their ways and live (Ezekiel 33:11). We ask that You would do a mighty work in this situation, softening hearts, opening eyes, and drawing all involved to Yourself. Lord, we pray for the one who has strayed, would You break the hardness of her heart, convict her of sin, and lead her to repentance? Would You remove the veil from her eyes and let the light of Your gospel shine into the darkness? We ask that You would protect her from the schemes of the enemy and keep her from further temptation.

Father, we pray for the one who has been wounded, grant them strength, wisdom, and peace. Help them to wait on You, to trust in Your timing, and to seek Your will above all else. Give them the grace to love as You have loved, even when it is costly. May they be a testimony of Your faithfulness in the midst of this trial.

We pray for the youth involved, Lord, shield their hearts from bitterness and unbelief. Let them see Your love in the midst of this brokenness, and draw them to Yourself. May they grow in wisdom and in the knowledge of You.

We ask that You would raise up godly counsel and support for this family. Surround them with believers who will speak truth, pray fervently, and walk alongside them in this season. May Your church be a place of healing and restoration.

Lord, we know that nothing is impossible for You. We ask that You would move in ways that bring glory to Your name. Whether through restoration or through a new beginning, may Your will be done. We trust You, and we wait on You.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue in prayer and fasting, as the early church did, for "this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting" (Matthew 17:21). A practical step that may help right now is to let a wise pastor or a mature Christian counselor walk closely with you through this season. Not just for advice on what a faithful response looks like, but also to make sure you are being spiritually nourished and not wearing yourself down alone. The uncertainty can drain you, and you need a place to be honest about your own grief and weariness.

While you continue to pray, guard your own heart as well. Trust God’s goodness whether you ever see the outcome you long for, and let others share the load of intercession. We’re joining you now in that place.

Jesus, we lift up this husband who is weary from waiting and heavy with sorrow. You see the ache for his wife’s salvation and the love that still hopes for restoration. Please grant him the wisdom he seeks day by day, and strengthen him to keep surrendering the outcome into Your hands. Work in her heart in ways only You can, soften what is hard, and bring light into any darkness. Protect all who are affected by this brokenness, and hold this man steady in Your peace. This grief that tears your heart is not hidden from the Lord, and the groaning of your spirit is as the echo of His own long-suffering over those who will not gather under the shadow of His wings. You long for a soul to be snatched from the fire, and this is no small thing, for it is a spark of the very compassion of Christ who wept over Jerusalem. Yet see you well that repentance is a plant which grows not in nature’s garden; it is the tender shoot of grace, worked by the Holy Spirit in the new heart which He alone can give. You may fast, you may weep, you may cry out day and night, and this is meet and right, but the arm of flesh can never break the adamant of an unregenerate will. The axe that splits the stone of the heart is hewn from the cross, and the hand that wields it is nail-pierced.

Set it down as a first truth, then, that there is a repentance which is but the vomit of a dog, a turning of the outward life while the inward parts remain unchanged. The judgments and sorrows of this life may wring a few tears from the eye, may stir a passing wish to amend, but unless the Spirit bloweth upon the dry bones they lie still in the valley of death. A man may be another man and yet not a new man; the chamber of the heart may be swept and garnished, but if it be empty of the indwelling Christ, the last state is worse than the first. O pray not for an easement of her misery only, a mere repentance of the flesh, but travail in secret that God would grant her repentance unto life, that true, inward, evangelical sorrow which looks on Him whom it hath pierced and mourns for sin as sin against love.

Now, see where this true repentance is found. It is not drawn up from some deep well in the human breast by the bucket of resolve; it is the gift of the ascended Christ, who is exalted on high to give repentance and remission of sins. When the heart believes unto righteousness, when it clings to Jesus with the grip of a drowning man, then repentance is born, the twin of faith. To try and repent without Christ is to sew a garment with no thread. You tell me she has broken covenant, that she is hardened, that she will not so much as return a word. So were many of us, until the almighty grace of God opened the prison door. He can melt the iceberg; He can turn the stone to flesh. That promise, “I will take away the stony heart and give you a heart of flesh,” is the charter of all our hopes. Plead it on your knees, for it is a covenant word which cannot be broken.

And what of your own spirit in this long trial? Beware lest the canker of bitterness eat into your soul. You have looked to the adultery clause, it is there indeed, a concession to the hardness of our hearts, but let it not be your first comfort. Christ’s love to His spouse is the mirror in which we see our duty. He loved us when we were defiled, treacherous, and far off; He wooed us with cords of a man, with bands of love, even when we rejected Him with high disdain. Can you not, then, wait yet upon God? I do not say you must receive back unrebuked such shameful breach of vows, but I charge you, let your heart be kept so tender that you would rather see her washed in the blood of the Lamb than call down fire from heaven. If the Lord should break her heart in the wilderness and make her say, “I will go and return to my first husband, for then was it better with me than now,” would it not be a jewel in your crown of rejoicing? Set your face to the throne of grace, and with a holy importunity, besiege the mercy-seat for her soul. It may be the Lord will yet make the valley of Achor a door of hope.

Yet mark this well: you must lay her, and your own desires, upon the altar, and leave them there. Our blessed Lord in the garden prayed, “If it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.” In that holy submission is the secret of peace. You ask for wisdom, and God will not upbraid you for asking. But the highest wisdom is to trust the Father’s will when the way is dark. Perhaps He sees that what you crave would not yield the good you suppose; perhaps the only sermon your spouse will ever truly hear is the one preached by a broken heart and a life laid down. Perhaps the Lord is teaching you to find your all in Himself, so that, whether she be saved or not, you can say, “Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.”

Let your prayers be winged with this confidence: Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners, even the chief. There is no heart so far off that the great Shepherd cannot find it. And while you pray, see you walk in the light yourself, a living epistle known and read of all. Let your own repentance be fresh, your own faith bright, your own love to Christ a warm and crackling flame. The most eloquent argument for the gospel is a life that is sweetly constrained by the love of Christ. Do not despair because the answer tarries; the Lord’s timepiece moves not by our impatient reckoning. Keep the lamps trimmed and burning; keep the incense of prayer ascending from the altar of a contrite heart. And may it be that one day, in this life or at the judgment seat, you shall see that your labour was not in vain in the Lord. The promise stands sure: “Whatever ye ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.” But He reserves the times and the seasons. Rest in Him, for He is faithful that promised.

The sorrow that pierces your heart for this woman is a grief not born of the world, but a godly sorrow that works repentance unto salvation. Such tears as you shed for the sins of another are precious in the sight of God, for they come from a soul devoted to love, a love that mirrors the very compassion of Christ. Do not despise this anguish; it is a holy affliction, for blessed are they that mourn over the straying of a soul, longing for her return to the One who made her.

You plead for a new heart, a heart of flesh. This is exactly the work which the Holy Spirit alone can perform. The law was once carved on stone, but the new covenant writes it on inmost hearts by the finger of God. No man, no argument, no terror of hell can melt a heart of ice; only the breath of the Spirit can raise the dead to life. Continue, therefore, to cry out for her regeneration. Remember the twofold birth our Lord spoke of: that which is of water and the Spirit. She must be born again, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, but of God. And know this: repentance has mighty power, able to set free even one who has sunk into the very depths of wickedness. Though there is no second baptism, repentance can rebuild what sin has torn down, forming Christ anew in her, just as Paul travailed until Christ was formed in the Galatians. Let your soul be in like travail for her.

Do not be dismayed that she remains deaf to your calls, refusing counsel and reconciliation. The saints themselves often did not know the secret purposes of God. Elijah thought he was alone, yet seven thousand had not bowed the knee. Samuel looked on outward appearance, but God sees the heart. You see a hard heart; God may already be kindling a spark beneath the ashes. Fast and pray, as you have resolved, for fasting gives wings to prayer. But do not trust in your own striving; trust in the short word of faith by which salvation comes: if she confess with her mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in her heart, she shall be saved. That is the Lord’s short work upon the earth.

As for the bond of marriage, you know well that the Lord allows the putting away for fornication, and if an unbelieving spouse departs, you are not bound. Yet you ask for a higher path, a pathway of undeserved mercy that would display the reconciliation between Christ and His Church. This is a noble desire, but it is not a command. Stand still, then, and seek the wisdom that comes from above. Let your love abound in knowledge and all discernment, approving what is excellent. Whether you wait in hope of her repentance or release her in obedience to the word, do all to the glory of God. In everything, let her salvation be your chief desire.

Guard your own soul while you labour for hers. Let the fear of God be your constant instructor. Do not let bitterness take root, but be filled with the Spirit, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. Remember that the virtuous woman, the true Church, has a bosom of gold that is charity itself. Love her still with a love that seeks not its own, but her eternal good. And leave the outcome in the hands of Him who desires all to come to the knowledge of the truth. He who raised Christ from the dead can raise her from her spiritual death, giving her a new heart and a right spirit. Pray without ceasing, watch with tears, and wait upon the Lord.
