We hear your honest frustration and we are lifting you up together before the Lord. It is not easy to step away for a marriage retreat, to be vulnerable and to have our hearts examined, and we understand that feeling of discomfort or disappointment when it does not meet your expectations.

We want to gently encourage you to see this time through God's eyes. Marriage is a sacred covenant before God between a man and a woman for life, and God uses even difficult and uncomfortable moments to refine us and to draw a husband and wife closer to each other and to Him. What feels like it sucks in the moment may be the very place where God wants to do a deep work. We encourage you not to close your heart but to lean in with humility and patience, to listen to your spouse and to the Lord without complaining.

The Word reminds us, Do all things without murmurings and disputes Philippians 2:14, and Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection Colossians 3:14. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it Ephesians 5:25. Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance James 1:2-3. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose Romans 8:28.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name, for if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus and we lift up this dear one at this marriage retreat. Lord, You see the frustration and weariness in their heart. We ask You to soften their heart and give them eyes to see this time as Your provision for their marriage. Pour out Your grace and patience, help them to love their spouse as Christ loves the church, with forgiveness and humility. Remove any spirit of complaining and replace it with joy and hope. Let this retreat not be wasted but be a turning point where You restore, heal, and strengthen the covenant they made before You. Give them ears to hear what You are speaking and courage to be open and honest in love. We ask that You would be glorified in their marriage and that they would leave this place more united and more in love with You and with each other. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to stay the course, to pray with your spouse, to be willing to be taught, and to trust that God is at work even when it feels uncomfortable. God is able to use this very weekend for His good purposes.

We heard you, you went hoping for help for your marriage and instead you are sitting there feeling frustrated and let down. That takes a lot out of you, and we are really glad you reached out for prayer instead of just shutting down.

Retreats can be awkward. Being asked to open up in front of others, or to do exercises that do not feel natural, can make a hard season feel even more tense. Feeling like it "sucks" does not mean you failed or that your marriage is beyond help. It often just means you are both under a lot of pressure right now.

If you can, give yourself a little room today. Step outside for a few minutes alone to breathe and pray quietly, then let your spouse or a retreat leader know simply how you are feeling. Something plain like, "I'm feeling overwhelmed and I want to get through this well," can lower the pressure without forcing a big conversation. You do not have to fix everything this weekend, just take the next honest step you can.

We are praying for you both while you are there.

Jesus, we lift this husband and this marriage to You. You see the disappointment and the strain he is feeling right now. Give him peace, patience, and wisdom for each conversation today, and help both of them feel heard and safe with each other. Guide them toward what is good and next. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your short and heavy sigh, and we take it before the Lord with you. To feel that a marriage retreat is hard and even sorrowful is no strange thing, for there the heart is searched, disappointments in the objects of our affections rise up, and sin is made to appear as it is. Yet this very wounding may be the kind work of the heavenly Physician, who convicts not to leave us despairing but to recover us by His power.

Scripture tells us, He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds. There is healing in Christ, abundant healing. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but even the leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ has healing virtue to change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. When the Lord comes and dwells with His people, pardon and healing are placed in happy conjunction. He says as He said to the palsied man, thy sins are forgiven thee, and with forgiveness comes healing.

If you have felt cowardice or coldness or failure in this season, remember Peter. He boasted and then fell, and want of watchfulness brought him low. Yet his restoration came by a look from the Lord, a look that severed him from the crowd and melted him to repentance, and then by Christ's own gracious word, feed my sheep. So the Lord restores those who turn to Him. And let not any sense of unworthiness discourage you, for the doctrine of the sovereignty of God, rightly regarded, has in it no discouragement to a seeking soul, but is a well of comfort that it is of God that showeth mercy.

We pray for you now, that the Sun of Righteousness would rise upon you and upon your marriage with healing in His wings. We ask the Lord to forgive sin where sin has been confessed, to heal the broken heart where it has been wounded, to give watchfulness and tenderness and truth between husband and wife according to His holy ordinance of marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and to keep all affection and all union within that covenant as He has appointed. May He teach you by His Word, for faith cometh by hearing, and healing is linked with teaching, and may He make even this hard retreat to be for your good and His glory.

Cast yourself upon Christ alone for salvation and for help, for He bears with Him power to heal, and this is His renown. Look to Him and live, and He will not cast you away. May the Lord bless you and keep you, and perfect that healing work till you shall be without spot or wrinkle before Him. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
