You feel that without Jesus you can do nothing, and you wonder, "What about me? Who am I?" That is a cry of loneliness that touches the very heart of why we exist. The Lord Himself said that apart from Him we can do nothing. But He did not say that to discourage you. He said it to invite you into the only relationship that gives life meaning.
From the beginning, God created us for fellowship with Himself. He designed each person with a purpose, a plan, an eternal reason for being here. But when sin entered, that fellowship was broken, and we lost our sense of belonging. The emptiness, the loneliness you feel, is the soul’s homesickness for its Creator. The self-directed life promises fulfillment but always ends in a hollow ache, a feeling that life is a mistake, a farce. But the truth is far better: you are not an accident. The God who made the universe knows you, loves you, and wants to hold you by the hand.
Your question "What would I be?" can only be answered in Jesus. Without Him, we remain fragments, lost in our weaknesses, unable to bear lasting fruit. But when we turn to Him, He makes us whole. Through His cross, the barrier of sin is removed, and He restores the fellowship we were made for. Then His Spirit comes to do in us what we can never do for ourselves, overcoming the failures of the flesh, giving strength where we are helpless. The moment we experience that, the cry becomes "Grace! Grace!"
You are not alone, and your life is not without purpose. You have been set apart, sanctified, for His use. Your worth does not depend on your own striving; God’s purposes do not rest solely on your shoulders. He will accomplish His will, and He invites you to find your identity in Him. As you heed His commandments and abide in His love, your life will bear fruit that remains, love, joy, peace. That is the life you were made for. Enter the gate that says "Whosoever": it is wide enough for you. Come, and discover the real you, the one who can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
