The former landlord’s Christian sister

Please pray for the former landlord's sister, who has faith in Jesus. Pray that God continues to speak through her, and that her positive influence will change the former landlord. Pray that she is not kept in the dark about the life-threatening apartment that her brother rented to me, and about the evil, immoral woman who had a sexual relationship with the former landlord and most likely hired people to try to kill me.

Please also pray that they both put God first and that our Mighty and Powerful God exposes and destroys every idol

We join you in bringing this burden before the Lord and we thank God for the sister who has faith in Jesus and who seeks to be a light in her family. We pray that God will continue to speak through her and strengthen her witness, for we know that a godly influence can be used by the Lord to draw others toward repentance and truth. Proverbs 27:17 says Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance, and we ask that her faithful walk will sharpen and convict her brother.

We also bring before the Lord the serious matters you have shared. A sexual relationship outside of marriage is sin before God and must be addressed. The Bible is clear that God calls us to flee sexual immorality. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Hebrews 13:4 says Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. We rebuke fornication and adultery and any such immorality involving your former landlord and this woman, and we pray that both would be convicted, repent, and turn to pursue purity and holiness. If they are not married, that relationship is not pleasing to God and cannot be blessed until there is repentance and, if it is God’s will, a commitment to a godly marriage between a man and a woman as God designed.

We also agree with you in praying that the truth will come to light and that no one will be kept in the dark about what has happened. It is wrong for a landlord to rent out a life threatening dwelling and to conceal danger, for that is dishonest and unloving toward a neighbor. Luke 8:17 says For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light. Ephesians 5:11 says Have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even reprove them. We pray that God exposes every hidden deed, every lie, and every scheme, including any plot to harm you. We pray for your protection, for Psalm 91:1 says He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty, and we ask the Lord to be your refuge and shield and to let no weapon formed against you prosper. If there have been threats to your life, we encourage you to also seek help through the proper authorities, for God has ordained them to uphold justice, and Romans 13:4 reminds us that the authority does not bear the sword in vain.

We join you in praying that both the former landlord and his sister will put God first above all else. Matthew 6:33 says But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. We pray that our Mighty and Powerful God will expose and destroy every idol in their lives, for Exodus 20:3 says You shall have no other gods before me. Whatever is being put before the Lord, whether money, power, relationships, self interest, or immorality, we ask God to tear it down and to bring them to a place of wholehearted surrender. Psalm 139:23 says Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts, and we pray they will invite God to search them and lead them in the everlasting way.

We pray together, Father in heaven, we lift up this sister who loves Jesus and we ask You to anoint her words and her life to be a clear testimony to her brother. Give her wisdom, courage, and love to speak the truth without fear. Lift the veil of darkness from her eyes so she is not kept unaware of the dangerous apartment her brother rented and of the sin and possible evil plots connected to that immoral relationship. Let Your light shine into every dark corner and bring all things into the open for righteousness and justice. Convict the former landlord of any dishonesty, greed, and sexual sin, and lead him to genuine repentance and to restitution where it is needed. Convict also the woman involved and bring her to repentance, and frustrate any evil intent to harm. Destroy every idol that competes for their hearts and draw them to put You first, to seek Your Kingdom above all else. Protect the one who has been harmed and let Your perfect love cast out fear, and let justice be done while mercy and salvation are offered through Jesus Christ. Help us not to be overcome by evil, but to overcome evil with good as Romans 12:21 teaches, trusting vengeance belongs to You, Lord. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We are praying with you for the former landlord's sister, thanking God for her faith in Jesus and asking Him to keep strengthening her walk so her life and words continue to reflect Him. We are asking for wisdom and courage for her, and for an open heart for her brother, that both of them would seek to put God first and that anything taking His place would be clearly seen for what it is.

Father, we bring this sister before You and ask You to keep her close to You and give her discernment. We ask You to guide her brother toward You, to bring what is hidden into the light in Your timing, and to guard our friend with Your peace and care. We join you in bringing this burden before the living God who is true in His very nature and true in all generations, with whom there is no deceit or falsehood.

We pray for the sister in Christ of whom you speak, that the Lord would strengthen her to make a brave, outspoken confession of faith, as Ruth did, and to stand as a pillar and ground of the truth in her own family. May she honor God, glorify Christ and walk humbly before Him, speaking the truth in love without fear. We ask that the Lord would give her discernment and courage, and that she would not be kept in darkness concerning what has been done, for our God brings hidden things to light and His Word prevails over sin and error. Pray with us that any counsel she gives would be faithful to the gospel, that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and that she would point her brother to repentance and new life in Him.

We pray for the former landlord, that God in His mercy would send him a message that he cannot evade, and awaken his conscience. We ask that the Lord would expose every idol, for this is the easily besetting sin of our nature to turn aside from the living God and make idols of self, of gain, of lust or of any created thing. Anything, however it may plead for itself, which comes between the soul and personal dealing with God as He is revealed in Christ becomes an idol. We pray that He would abolish these idols and make the heart His temple, and that both brother and sister would learn to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, putting God upon the throne and giving to true religion sovereignty over their lives. Where there has been sexual sin outside the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, we do not ask God to bless that path, but we pray for conviction, for turning from sin, and for the cleansing that is only in the blood of Christ. May what is impure be forsaken, and what is holy be pursued.

We also bring before the Lord your own safety and the grave wrongs you have suffered in being let an apartment that endangered life, and the fear that evil was plotted against you. The Lord who told Noah to enter the ark and saved him, who kept His promise to Abraham, is still faithful to keep His people. We ask for His protection over you, for justice and truth to be revealed, and for every scheme of darkness to be brought to nothing. May the Lord who is terrible in holiness yet full of mercy and compassion be your defender and judge righteously.

Let us pray together that God Himself, who maintains His own truth and is not dependent upon mortals to preserve it, would cause His Word to be planted and to prevail, that sin would be confessed and forsaken, that idols would be utterly abolished, and that Christ would be first in every heart and home. May the fear of God be the foundation and the top stone, and may all involved be brought to say from the heart, What have I to do any more with idols, that the Lord alone may be exalted.

We commend you to Him who hears prayer, trusting His faithfulness and truth, and asking these things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
