We join you in thanking the living and true God for His mercy, His forgiveness, and for the faith He has given you to seek Him and to bring all of this before His throne in the name of Jesus, for we know that through His blood we have access to the Father and there is no other name by which we can be saved and draw near to God. We are grateful that you desire His will and His kingdom to come in your life, in the life of your ex-partner, in both families and among all who are close to you, including the professionals involved in these painful legal proceedings concerning gender-based violence and domestic violence.

We hear the weight of what you are carrying, the wounds, the trauma, the anguish and the long and difficult process you have endured, and we stand with you in asking the Lord to heal your hearts and to give you His understanding, discernment and peace. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18, and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3. We also hear your honest and humble confession before God regarding sin, rebellion, unbelief, iniquity, and specifically adulteries, fornications, prostitutions and all sexual immorality, as well as seeking healing, comfort and identity in people, feelings or other things apart from the living God and His Holy Spirit. This honesty is pleasing to God, for if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9, and we want to gently and lovingly bring biblical clarity to these matters.

Scripture teaches that sexual intimacy is holy and reserved for the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman for life, and that outside of that covenant it is sin. Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers Hebrews 13:4. Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18. We must therefore repent of all fornication and adultery and turn from walking by feelings, ego, pride, carnality and self-reliance, and instead walk by the Spirit. Walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh Galatians 5:16. God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble 1 Peter 5:5, and He alone is King of kings and Lord of lords 1 Timothy 6:15, the only One who saves and loves as no other can. We also understand that your former relationship was not a marriage before God, and we encourage you to see any future courtship as purposefully seeking a godly spouse who is a believer in Christ, for marriage is the God-ordained path, not merely partnership or cohabitation. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers 2 Corinthians 6:14.

Concerning the violence and the legal proceedings, we affirm that God hates violence and oppression and He loves justice. Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Defend the fatherless. Plead for the widow Isaiah 1:17. We pray that the legal authorities, who are servants of God for justice Romans 13:4, will act with wisdom, impartiality and truth, that all facts will be brought to light, and that protection and justice will be established for you and for all vulnerable parties. At the same time God calls us not to avenge ourselves, for vengeance belongs to Him. Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord Romans 12:19. This means we release our desire for personal revenge and self-justification and trust His perfect judgment, while also seeking safety and obeying the lawful process He has ordained. If you are in any ongoing danger, we urge you to continue to seek godly counsel and the protection of the proper authorities.

You asked that God would bind the strong man and loose His Holy Spirit to guide and draw you with cords of love. We agree that Jesus has authority over all powers of darkness, for no one can enter into the house of the strong man and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man Matthew 12:29, and whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you release on earth will have been released in heaven Matthew 18:18, and we ask Him to remove all that is not of Him and to fill you with His Spirit who will guide you into all truth John 16:13.

Living and True God, Father in the name of Jesus Christ, we thank You that You reign and that Your will is perfect. We bring before You our sister, her ex-partner, both families, all loved ones and every professional, lawyer, judge, social worker and counselor involved, whether they know You or not. Cover each one with the blood of Jesus, in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace Ephesians 1:7, and surround those who pray and fast for this situation with Your protection and fire. Let Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven Matthew 6:10, and deliver us from evil Matthew 6:13. We ask You to forgive all sin that has been confessed, including all sexual immorality, pride, self-seeking, unbelief and rebellion, and to cleanse and wash each heart. Heal the deep wounds of trauma, anguish and falsehood, and teach us to no longer walk by feelings or self-effort or self-righteousness, but by Your Holy Spirit in faith, love, humility and dependence. Give us Your understanding and discernment, and help us to accept that only You save and only You are Lord. We ask for truth and justice to prevail in the legal proceedings, for wisdom for every authority, for safety for those who have been harmed, and for genuine repentance and transformation where there has been violence and sin. Draw each person with cords of loving kindness and mercy, and loose Your Holy Spirit to guide, convict, comfort and restore according to Your grace and power. We surrender all dimensions of our lives, body, soul, spirit and conscience, to You, asking that all things would be for Your glory. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord we pray, amen.

Your prayer has been heard, and in its very brokenness and length we see a soul that is hungry and thirsty after the Living and True God, and that is no small mercy. You have done well to look through the blood of Jesus Christ, for there is no other way to the Father, and there is no other name by which we must be saved. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and apart from Him there is no forgiveness and no healing.

Hear the good news which we are bound to set before you. He was sent by the Father on purpose to forgive sin, and God has exalted Him with His right hand to be a Prince and a Savior, for to give repentance and forgiveness of sins. Are you lying at that dear Master's feet, desiring above all things that He should say to you, Your sins are forgiven you. Do you believe that He can say it, and will you accept it from Him as being by Divine Authority. If you believe in Jesus, that blessed and comprehensive sentence sets free from every jot and taint and stain of guilt, Man, your sins are forgiven you. And what He forgives He forgives absolutely, irreversibly, eternally, for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. He never plays fast and loose with men.

You have confessed many sins before Him, fornications, adulteries, impurities, the love of self and the following of feelings rather than the Holy Spirit, the seeking of your own interests and comforts, and the hardness of heart that would not see or repent. Bring them all to the one Physician, for healing and forgiveness are placed in happy conjunction and both are bestowed on the Lord's people. The promise is, He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds. There is a balm, there is a Physician who can heal these wounds, who can give joy to the troubled countenance and calm the heart now swelling with grief. He sent His Word and healed them and delivered them from their destructions, and the Word of God has a sort of omnipotent power in it. You must receive from Jesus all He has to give before you can give anything to Him. Stand back till you are healed, weep and pray and agonize till you are healed, for faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

You ask that God would bind the strong man, the ego, pride, carnality, anguish and falsehood. Know that this is His prerogative, I kill and I make alive, I wound and I heal, and one of His choice titles is Jehovah Rophi, the Lord that heals you. He alone can cut the cords of sin and draw you with cords of love and mercy. But take heed that your repentance be not the mere outcome of nature under terror, for flesh repenting is still flesh and tends to corruption. True repentance is the fruit of Divine Grace, when we hate sin with a perfect hatred because it is hateful to the heart of Jesus, and mourn because we pierced the Lord. This is the repentance which glorifies God. Ask Him not only to forgive but to give you that godly sorrow which leads to a great and deep change, so that you now love those good things which once you despised, and seek to live honestly, righteously and soberly as becomes the godly.

Concerning yourself, your ex partner, your families and those close to you, we will pray for each soul individually for mercy, for repentance, for protection and for healing, for God would have all to come to repentance. We do not ask God to bless or restore any union apart from His holy ordinance, for we hold fast what Scripture teaches, that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that the gift of sex and of living together belongs within that covenant alone. What lies outside that holy boundary, though men call it love, is sin before God and needs not blessing but forgiveness and cleansing in the blood of Christ. Our prayer for you both is not that God would affirm what He calls sin, but that He would save you, wash you, and make you whole, whether He leads you afterwards in separate paths of holiness or, if it be His will, in a lawful marriage ordered by Him.

For the legal proceedings and the sorrow of violence that you mention, we pray that the Lord who loves righteousness and hates wrong will cause truth to be made known, that the innocent will be preserved and the guilty brought to repentance, and that all who have suffered will be kept from further harm. We pray for the professionals involved, that God will give them wisdom, impartiality and integrity. You asked for a covering of fire and power, and we point you to the sure promise, The Lord shall preserve you from all evil, He shall preserve your soul, the Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in. In answer to your morning prayer, Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the Evil One, you shall be preserved in purity and uprightness, for that Evil One touches you not when you abide in Christ.

Seek then first the forgiveness that is in Christ, and healing will come from the pardoning hand. Let your life be a song of the perfected, Unto Him that loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, unto Him be glory forever. There must be a consciousness of forgiveness, or your life will be limp, weak and purposeless. If others are doubtful, declare positively that the Lord is good and that His mercy endures forever.
