Disciple of Prayer
Hi, please pray for me. I am very worried about getting a stress test on Tuesday afternoon. Please ask God for it to go well. But, beyond that, please pray that God will help me with my binge eating issues, and to live a healthier and more joyful lifestyle.

We join together with you in prayer as you face this stress test on Tuesday afternoon and we understand how worrying this can feel as you wait for it.

We are reminded of what Scripture says, Don't be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 We also take comfort in the promise, Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 And the Lord says, Fear not, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10

We notice your request asks God for help but does not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 It is by trusting in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we can come boldly to God in prayer, and we pray in His name for you now.

We also hear your heart about struggling with binge eating and your desire to live a healthier and more joyful lifestyle. God cares about every part of you, body, mind and spirit. Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God. You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 This is not to bring shame, for there is no condemnation for those in Christ, but to remind you that God wants to help you steward your health for His glory. Whether therefore you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 He also offers strength for self-control, which is a fruit of the Spirit. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7 We encourage you to seek both spiritual and practical help, through prayer, through wise counsel, through medical guidance and healthy daily habits, and to remember that lasting joy is found in His presence.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one to You. We ask that You calm every anxious thought before this stress test on Tuesday afternoon. Grant Your perfect peace that surpasses understanding to guard heart and mind. We ask that the test would go well, that the results would be clear and encouraging, and that You would give wisdom and skill to the doctors and technicians. We ask for Your healing hand upon the heart and body. We also bring before You the struggle with binge eating. Lord, You know the burdens, the triggers, and the pain behind this. We ask for Your deliverance, for strength to walk in self-control, for healing of any underlying hurt, and for grace to make healthy choices day by day. Help our friend to honor You with the body You have given, to find joy not in food but in You, and to live a healthier and more joyful lifestyle that reflects Your goodness. Teach us all to trust You more and to rejoice in Your nearness. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our Savior and our hope. Amen.

We're so glad you reached out and shared what is weighing on you. Waiting for a medical test like this on Tuesday can bring a lot of worry, and it makes sense you would feel on edge as the day gets closer. We are holding Tuesday afternoon in prayer with you, asking for steadiness and for clear care from your medical team.

We also hear your deeper hope to find freedom from binge eating and to live in a healthier, more joyful way. That is a tender and courageous desire, and God cares about your whole wellbeing. These patterns are often complex, involving body, mind and daily habits together, so lasting change usually comes with support.

One small step that may help is to bring both concerns to your doctor. You could write down any questions about the stress test to take with you Tuesday, and when you have space afterward, ask your primary care provider about trusted help for the eating struggles, such as a counselor or dietitian who understands these issues. Walking with professionals alongside prayer can make the path less lonely.

Father, we lift our friend to You for Tuesday, asking for Your peace to guard heart and mind and for wisdom for the doctors and staff. We ask You to gently lead toward healing and joy, giving strength for each next choice and hope for the days ahead. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your request has been heard and we bring it before the Lord with you in prayer and sympathy.

We understand the worry that gathers around a medical test, and how the mind can be greatly troubled before Tuesday afternoon comes. Our Savior bids us not to be of a doubtful mind, for happiness lies more in the mind than in outward circumstances, and the very anxiety which arises through being in a difficulty unfits us to meet that difficulty. It is right to tell the Lord about it, not merely to tell yourself about it within yourself. So we pray that you may cast this care upon Him who cares for you, and find that peace which comes through believing, that you may be filled with joy and peace as you trust in God.

We ask the Lord to be with you in that stress test, to give skill and wisdom to those who attend you, to keep you calm in heart and steady in spirit, and to grant a good and clear result according to His gracious will. May you know His presence in the waiting room as well as in the test itself, and may your heart find rest in His power and faithfulness, for He changes not.

We also pray with you concerning the struggle with binge eating and the desire to live a healthier and more joyful lifestyle. The body is the Lord's vineyard to keep, and we are to be faithful keepers, not neglecting the vineyard He has entrusted to us. True joy is not found in what fills the barn floor or the wine vat, nor even in what satisfies the appetite for a moment, for that joy may soon be bare. The joy which endures is joy in the Lord, the fruit of the Spirit from the root of trust in God. There is no monotony in that joy, but exhilaration and strength.

Scripture sets forth a most expressive picture of participation by eating, for no one can eat for another, it must be personal. Yet the eating of earthly food does not give life, it only sustains the life already there. So we pray that you may know more deeply what it is to receive Christ by faith and to feed upon Him, to take Him into the inward parts and be nourished and satisfied in Him. When the soul feeds abundantly on heavenly bread, it learns a holy self control and finds that Christ Himself is its exceeding joy. May the Lord teach you set times and holy habits for the body as well as for the soul, and grant you strength to turn from excess to that which truly nourishes, that you may honor Him with both body and spirit.

We pray that He would give you daily grace for a healthier way of life, wisdom in choices, moderation, and perseverance, and above all a continual rejoicing in the Lord. As it is written, rejoice in the Lord always, and again we say rejoice. This joy is to be your cure for discord within and your song in every season, whether in plenty or in want, for if you have God you have the quintessence of happiness.

Let us pray together. O faithful Father, look in mercy upon this dear one who is anxious before this test. Calm the heart, quiet fear, and let Thy perfect love cast out worry. Grant favor on Tuesday afternoon and guide every hand and every measure. Give deliverance from the snare of binge eating, grant self control by Thy Spirit, and teach a joyful contentment in Christ rather than in food. Make the body strong to serve Thee, and fill the soul with joy in God, joy that sings and yet can be still before Thee, joy today and joy forever. Keep this life in Thy gracious hands and cause it to abound in health, holiness and happiness to Thy glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
