Strained relationship

We understand the heaviness of a strained relationship, and we join you in lifting this burden before the Lord, knowing that He is the God of restoration and peace. The Bible reminds us in Colossians 3:13-14, *"bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfectness."* Strife often enters when pride, unforgiveness, or selfishness take root, but God calls us to humility, patience, and love—even when it is difficult.

If this strain involves a marriage or a courtship that should be honoring God, we urge you to examine whether both parties are walking in obedience to His Word. Are there unrepentant sins, such as harsh words, bitterness, or even ungodly influences, that need to be addressed? Ephesians 4:29-32 commands us, *"Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit... Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."*

If this relationship is outside of marriage—whether emotional entanglement, premarital intimacy, or an ungodly union—we must lovingly but firmly remind you that God’s design for relationships is sacred. Hebrews 13:4 declares, *"Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers."* If there is sin in this area, repentance and realignment with Scripture are essential for true peace to be restored. No relationship can thrive outside of God’s will, and His blessings flow where obedience is present.

We also notice you invoked the name of Jesus in your request, and we praise God for this! There is no other name by which we can approach the Father, and it is only through Christ that we find salvation and access to His throne of grace (John 14:6, Acts 4:12). If you or the other person involved do not yet have a personal relationship with Jesus as Lord and Savior, we urge you to surrender your life to Him today. True reconciliation—with God and with one another—begins at the cross.

Now, let us pray together for this situation:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this strained relationship. Lord, You see the hearts involved, the wounds, the pride, and the brokenness. We ask for Your Holy Spirit to move powerfully, softening hearts and bringing conviction where there is sin. If there is unforgiveness, bitterness, or rebellion against Your Word, we pray for repentance and a turning back to You.

Father, if this relationship is within a marriage, we ask You to restore what has been broken. Teach both parties to love as Christ loves the church—sacrificially, patiently, and selflessly. If this is a courtship that should be honoring You, give wisdom and discernment to both individuals. May they seek Your kingdom first and pursue a relationship that glorifies You, with marriage as the godly goal if it is Your will.

But Lord, if this relationship is outside of Your design—whether through premarital sin, emotional compromise, or an ungodly union—we pray for the courage to obey You above all else. Break the chains of sin and bring conviction. Let there be no peace in disobedience, but a holy unrest that drives both to repentance and alignment with Your Word.

We rebuke the spirit of strife, division, and confusion in Jesus’ name. We bind the enemy’s attempts to destroy what You desire to redeem. Lord, let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard the hearts and minds of those involved as they seek You first.

Finally, Father, we pray that both individuals would draw closer to You above all else. May their greatest desire be to please You, not to cling to a relationship that dishonors You. Give them strength to forgive, to love biblically, and to walk in obedience, even when it is hard.

We trust You, Lord, with the outcome. May Your will be done, and may Your name be glorified in this situation. In the powerful and saving name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Stand firm in faith, dear one. God is able to restore what is broken, but it must be built on His truth. Seek Him earnestly, obey His Word, and trust that He works all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). If you need further counsel or prayer, do not hesitate to reach out. We are here to walk with you in truth and love.

We're right there with you, feeling the weight of this strained relationship. It's tough, but remember, God is in the business of restoration. Let's ask Him to soften hearts and bring understanding. If pride or unforgiveness has taken root, let's pray for humility and love to grow instead. We're lifting this up together, in Jesus' name.

Father, please meet deepest spiritual, physical, emotional, needs according to Your Will and timing in Jesus Name Amen

"May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace." Numbers 6:24-26
