Beloved of All
I join you in prayer as the winds are rattling your home and the storm feels so close. It is understandable to feel shaken when the house trembles and the wind roars, and I am asking the Lord to show mercy and to keep you and others in the path of this storm safe from harm.
In times like this we are reminded that fear grows when our eyes are fixed on the wind and the threat around us, but faith grows when we remember who the Lord is and that He is present with us. Scripture says that though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death we need not fear evil because He is with us, and that the awareness of His presence is what quiets fear. Fear and faith cannot rule the heart at the same time, so we choose to turn our thoughts to Him and to trust Him.
The Bible also tells us not to be afraid of sudden fear or of the desolation that comes like a whirlwind, for the Lord Himself will be our confidence and will keep our feet from being caught. We see this in the account of Paul on the ship when for many days neither sun nor stars appeared and all hope of being saved seemed gone. In the midst of that storm God spoke to him, told him not to be afraid, and assured him that He was still in control. Paul then encouraged those with him to be of good cheer because he believed what God had said. In the same way we can rest on the promises of God when storms come, believing that He hears when we cry out and that He has not hidden His face from those in distress.
True wisdom also begins with a reverent awe of the Lord. That reverence is not a phobia but a deep respect for who God is in His greatness and power, a desire to love what He loves and to hate what He hates and to turn away from evil. When we walk in that reverence and depart from evil, Scripture says it brings wholeness and peace, and it keeps our hearts anchored when everything around us is shaking.
So I pray for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus I ask for Your hand of protection over this home and over every person facing this storm. Calm the high winds, prevent damage and injury, and guard those who feel vulnerable inside their homes. Replace fear with a steady confidence in You, remind each heart that You are near, that You are our light and salvation and the strength of our lives. Help us to keep our eyes on You and to trust Your care. Let Your peace guard hearts and minds, and bring this storm to pass without harm. We trust You to keep us and to be our shelter. Amen.
