Wind and storms

We join you in praying for the calming of these high winds and for the protection of all who are in the path of heavy rains and flooding, and we thank you for calling upon the name of Jesus.
We are reminded that our God has all power over creation and that nothing in the wind or the waves is beyond His command. He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still Psalm 107:29. When the disciples were afraid in the storm, Jesus awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace Be still The wind ceased, and there was a great calm Mark 4:39. He is still the same today, mighty to save and mighty to shelter. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble Psalm 46:1, and He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty Psalm 91:1.
We pray together, Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus and ask for Your mercy over every community facing these storms. We ask You to rebuke the high winds and to cause them to calm at Your command. We ask You to protect lives, homes, and families from heavy rain and rising flood waters. Place Your hand of protection over those in low lying and flooded areas, over the elderly, the vulnerable, children, and over all emergency responders and neighbors who are helping others. Provide safe shelter, provision, and deliverance from harm. Lord, when Your people pass through the waters, You have promised I will be with you and through the rivers, they will not overflow you Isaiah 43:2, so we ask that Your presence would be felt as comfort and peace even in the midst of fear and uncertainty. Grant wisdom to all to heed warnings and to act with safety, and bring a swift end to the danger so that restoration can begin.

We join you in carrying this petition to the throne of grace, for our God is He who commands the winds and the waters and they obey Him. The same Lord who shut Noah in the ark of safety and hid him from the floods which rose from beneath and the rain which fell from above is still sovereign over every storm. What comfort to remember that the deeper the waters grew, the higher that ark rose toward heaven, for so it is with those who are in Christ, our true Ark. He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still, and He is able to keep His people from falling and to present them faultless before the presence of His glory.
Let us pray together. O Lord God, You have given commandment to save, and Your command is certain to be obeyed. We entreat You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, whose blood cleanses from all sin and who alone is our salvation, to lay Your hand upon the wind and bid it be still according to Your perfect wisdom. Spread Your protection over all who lie in the path of these heavy rains and flooded places. Keep them, hide them as Your hidden ones in a place of safety, and deliver them from danger. Grant wisdom and strength to those who labor to rescue and to help, and grant repentance and faith to all who see Your power in the tempest, that they may flee to Christ and be found safe in Him when the floods arise. We ask this trusting not in our worthiness but in the mercy of Him who bore our sins upon the cross, and who lives to intercede for us. Amen.

We join you in praying for the calming of these high winds and for the Lord's protection over all who are in the path of heavy rain and flooding, and we ask this in the name of Jesus.
The Scriptures show us that the life of faith is often interwoven with contrary winds and storms, and God does not always change the order of nature at once but remains with His people to bring them safely through. He is our harbor when the sea is beaten about with winds, and He hears those who call upon Him.
Prayer is a great weapon given to us for such times. As we face the tempests and trials of each day, we need favorable winds from God, and we find them as we seek Him early and late, asking Him to be propitious to us. When we have first made our request to God, we can go through the day without shipwreck, even when the waves are high.
We also remember that confusion comes not only from the circumstances around us but from the condition of our own hearts, and when we order our minds to trust God and bear all things contentedly, we can find a calm within even while the storm rages without. Let us make the soul like heaven, which is higher than the rains and the storms and is not reached by them, because we have Christ, the Sun of Righteousness, dwelling within us.
So we pray with you: Father, in the name of Jesus, command these winds to be still according to Your will, spare those in danger, guard those in flooded areas, keep families and homes and all who serve and rescue, and grant wisdom and safety to all in harm's way. Give peace to troubled hearts and keep us spotless and steadfast through tribulation, until we reach Your safe harbor. Amen.
