We hear your heart’s longing for godly companionship, a spouse who walks in faith and friends who sharpen you as iron sharpens iron. The desire for fellowship is good, for Scripture tells us, "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up" (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10). Yet we must also remember that relationships built on anything other than Christ will crumble under the weight of this world’s trials.
First, let us examine the foundation of your pursuit. Are you seeking these relationships with the intent to glorify God, or are you looking to fill a void only He can satisfy? The Lord warns us, "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14). If you are courting or considering marriage, it must be with a believer whose heart is steadfast in the Lord, one who will lead or follow in godly submission, not in worldly compromise. If you are currently in a relationship that does not honor this principle, we must rebuke that path in Jesus’ name and call you to repentance. The same applies to friendships; surround yourself with those who will spur you toward holiness, not pull you into sin.
For those who are single and waiting, we pray you would not grow weary in doing good. "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6). The Lord is not slow in keeping His promises, He is preparing you and your future spouse for one another. Do not settle for less than His best out of loneliness or impatience. Guard your heart, for "above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it" (Proverbs 4:23). If you have stumbled into sexual immorality, whether in thought or deed, confess it now and turn away. The Lord is faithful to forgive and cleanse you from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
For those who are married, we pray your union would be a testament to Christ’s love for the Church. "Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and don’t be bitter against them" (Colossians 3:18-19). If there is strife, bitterness, or unfaithfulness, we rebuke those spirits in Jesus’ name and call you to repentance. Marriage is a covenant, not a contract, it requires sacrifice, forgiveness, and daily dying to self.
And for friendships, we pray you would find those who will speak truth in love, even when it is hard. "Faithful are the wounds of a friend; although the kisses of an enemy are profuse" (Proverbs 27:6). Do not surround yourself with yes-men who tickle your ears but lead you astray. Seek out those who will challenge you to grow in Christlikeness.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Lord, we lift up our brother/sister before You, asking that You would fulfill the desires of their heart in ways that align with Your perfect will. Father, if they are single, prepare them for the spouse You have for them, one who will walk in righteousness, love You above all else, and lead or follow in a way that honors You. Remove any relationships that do not align with Your Word, and break any ungodly soul ties in Jesus’ name. If they are married, strengthen their union, heal any brokenness, and let their marriage be a light to a dark world.
Lord, surround them with friends who will sharpen them, encourage them, and hold them accountable. Remove any friendships that lead them into sin or compromise, and replace them with godly fellowship. Father, we ask that You would fill any loneliness with Your presence, for You are the only One who can truly satisfy. Teach them to wait on You, to trust in Your timing, and to seek You above all else.
We rebuke the spirit of impatience, the spirit of lust, and the spirit of compromise in Jesus’ name. We declare that no weapon formed against them will prosper, and every tongue that rises against them in judgment, You will condemn. We pray for purity in thought, word, and deed, let them flee from sexual immorality and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart (2 Timothy 2:22).
Father, we thank You that You are a God who hears and answers prayer. We trust in Your goodness, Your faithfulness, and Your perfect plan for their life. May they seek You first, and may all these things be added unto them (Matthew 6:33). In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
