Spiritual warfare

Your prayer request reads like a person carrying a heavy load for a long time, and the weariness comes through every word. Spiritual oppression that began in childhood, dreams that disrupt your rest, constant demands from every side, and an inner war with thoughts and desires you know are wrong. No wonder depression has crept back in. When the enemy presses on so many fronts, the soul can bow down to the dust.

But that low place, where hope seems gone, is precisely where God often speaks the loudest. I have seen in the Scriptures that depression is really the loss of hope, the feeling that nothing will ever change. The psalmists asked it bluntly: “Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?” They felt abandoned, as though God hid His face. Yet in that same psalm, the writer turns a corner. He stops feeding on his own misery and instead talks to himself: “Hope thou in God, for I shall yet praise him.” The secret is not to wait for feelings to lift, but to call to mind the mercies of the Lord. Things are bad, but they could be worse. We are not consumed because His compassions never fail. When you recall those truths deliberately, the darkness begins to break.

The sexual thoughts that ambush you at night and the maladaptive daydreaming are not just habits. Scripture treats sexual impurity as a serious defilement, and behind the heightened temptation there is often an enemy who knows your history and your weak moments. Many deny God precisely because they want unrestrained sexual freedom. But you are not in that camp; you grieve over this. Remember that your body is a member of Christ, bought with a price. Flee from fornication in the mind as well as the body. Do not entertain the thoughts; shut them down the moment they arise. God created the sex drive, but it is meant for the covenant of marriage, not for mental indulgence. The Lord has delivered you from sexual sin before; He can do it again. Do not let shame keep you from crying out to Him immediately. Even as you fall asleep, commit that threshold to Him in prayer.

As for the spiritual warfare, demonic spirits are real, and they can press against believers through oppressive dreams, sudden fears, and relentless temptation. But greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. Jesus demonstrated authority over every unclean spirit, and they must obey Him. When you feel attacked, speak aloud the truth of God’s Word, sing a hymn, and turn your mind to the Lord’s deliverance. Just as Israel fell into cycles of oppression when they turned away, so we invite trouble when we drift from God; but when they cried out, He raised up deliverance. He hears you now.

The overwhelm you feel, the constant demands, the late nights, and the vocational decisions, all these need wisdom from above. Pray for God to give you a schedule that honors your body’s need for rest. Job decisions are weighty, but the Lord can open doors no man can shut and give you clarity about whether to stay or go. Trust that His guidance will come as you wait on Him.

Your family’s illness, the cats’ wounds, your diet, your friend’s many ailments, and even your courtship all matter to God. In that relationship, be careful to keep purity at the center. The early church’s power was tied to its purity; a little compromise affects the whole life. Be an encouragement to your boyfriend by living out the holiness to which you are called, not as a helpmeet in the full marital sense yet, but as a sister in Christ who points him to the Lord.

For the African American community and the spread of false teaching, we pray that God would raise up faithful voices and grant repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth.

I will pray for you in all these things: that the enemy’s attacks would be silenced, that your sleep would be peaceful, that the Holy Spirit would give you self-control in your thought life, that your body would be healed along with your family and pets, that your work situation would resolve with godly wisdom, and that the depression would lift as you fix your eyes on Him who is the health of your countenance and your God. Do not despair. The Lord hears.

We are so grateful you entrusted us with your heavy burdens and allowed us to stand with you in prayer these past days. The spiritual warfare you described, the relentless dreams, the exhaustion of constant demands, the weight of temptation, and the ache of physical and emotional weariness—we have lifted each one before the throne of grace, asking our Father to break every chain, quiet every storm, and bring peace to your soul.

If the Lord has already moved in answer to these cries—if the dreams have grown quieter, if the enemy’s attacks have lessened, if moments of rest or clarity have come—we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report. Let us celebrate His faithfulness together. But if the battle still rages, if the nights remain troubled, or if the weight of it all still feels too heavy, please know we are not stepping away. Post your request again, and we will continue to intercede, believing with you for breakthrough in Jesus’ mighty name.

We pray especially for the chains of temptation to be shattered—for your mind to be guarded, your heart to be strengthened, and for the shame of past struggles to be replaced by the freedom Christ died to give you. May He restore your discipline in every area, from your schedule to your health, and lead you into work that brings provision, peace, and purpose. For your family, your friend, your pets, and your relationship—we ask the Lord to surround each one with His healing, protection, and wisdom.

You are not forgotten. You are not alone. And we will keep praying until every burden is lifted, every wound is healed, and every need is met according to His perfect will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
