Spiritual warfare

Beloved of All
There is a man where I live that is constantly sending curses my way pray that God would send those curses back to him and that as a result his hands will get hot every time he sends his curses my way. Thanks! ###

We hear your cry for protection and justice in the midst of spiritual warfare, and we stand with you in the authority of Jesus Christ, who has already disarmed the powers and principalities through His victory on the cross. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Christ came that we might have life abundantly (John 10:10). We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12 WEB). This man who is sending curses your way is not your true enemy, he is being used by the enemy, and our battle is against the spiritual forces behind his actions.

First, we must address the request for curses to be returned and for his hands to "get hot." While it is understandable to desire justice and even for the enemy to experience the consequences of his actions, Scripture warns us against repaying evil for evil or taking vengeance into our own hands. Romans 12:19-21 (WEB) says, "Beloved, don’t seek revenge yourselves, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, ‘Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.’ Therefore, ‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.’ Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." Our role is not to curse but to bless, not to retaliate but to trust God to defend us and bring justice in His perfect timing and way.

We also want to remind you of the power and protection we have in Christ. When we submit to God and resist the devil, he must flee (James 4:7 WEB). The name of Jesus is above every name, and at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow, in heaven, on earth, and under the earth (Philippians 2:9-10 WEB). You have the authority in Christ to rebuke these curses and break their power in His name. Psalm 91:9-11 (WEB) declares, "Because you have made Yahweh your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place, no evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways." Stand firm in this truth, knowing that God is your shield and fortress.

Let us pray together in the mighty name of Jesus:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, the name above all names. Lord, we lift up our brother/sister who is under spiritual attack. We declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against them in judgment, You will condemn (Isaiah 54:17 WEB). We break every curse, hex, or spell sent their way in the authority of Jesus Christ, and we command these curses to be nullified and returned to the sender, not by our will, but by Your righteous judgment. We pray that You would open the eyes of the man sending these curses, that he would see the error of his ways and turn from darkness to light. Soften his heart, Lord, and let conviction lead him to repentance.

Father, we ask that You surround our brother/sister with Your holy angels for protection. Shield them from every scheme of the enemy and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7 WEB). Strengthen their faith, Lord, and help them to stand firm in the armor of God, truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and Your Word (Ephesians 6:13-17 WEB). Let them walk in the confidence that greater is He who is in them than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4 WEB).

We also pray for the man who is being used by the enemy. Lord, we ask that You would disrupt his plans and expose the darkness in his heart. If it is Your will, bring him to a place of repentance and salvation. Let him experience the conviction of the Holy Spirit, and if he continues in his ways, let him face the consequences of his actions, not by our hands, but by Yours. We trust in Your justice, Lord, and we release this situation into Your hands.

Finally, Father, we ask that You would fill our brother/sister with Your love and grace. Help them to respond to this man with the love of Christ, even if it is from a distance. Let them be a light in the darkness, and may their life reflect the power of the gospel. We thank You for Your protection, Your provision, and Your promise to never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5 WEB). In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue standing firm in your faith, clothed in the full armor of God. Spend time in prayer and in the Word, for the enemy flees when we resist him with the truth of Scripture. Do not engage with this man in a way that compromises your witness or gives the enemy a foothold. Instead, walk in wisdom, and let your life be a testament to the power of Christ. If this man continues to harass you, seek godly counsel and consider practical steps to protect yourself, such as involving authorities if necessary. But above all, trust in the Lord, for He is your defender and your deliverer.

We hear how unsettling this has been, the sense of being targeted by someone’s ill intent can feel suffocating. It’s natural to want that weight to lift, and even to long for a clear sign that God is shielding you. What stands out to us in your request is your deep desire for God to act on your behalf, and we’re with you in wanting His justice and protection.

What has helped us when we’ve felt under spiritual attack is remembering that the real enemy isn’t the person, but the darkness that may be influencing them. The apostle Paul reminds us that our struggle isn’t against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces. That doesn’t make the hurt less real, but it can shift how we pray. Instead of asking for those curses to land back on him, we’ve found it powerful to pray that whatever is sent against us simply has no effect, and that the man himself would be touched by God’s mercy. It’s not weakness; it’s trusting that God’s way of overcoming evil is often through stubborn, undeserved blessing.

A practical next step: when you feel that sense of being cursed, you might declare out loud, simply and firmly, that you are covered by the blood of Jesus and that no weapon formed against you will prosper. Then, even though it’s hard, ask the Lord to work in that man’s heart, to bring him to repentance and true freedom. This isn’t easy, but it takes the power out of the enemy’s hands and places you firmly in Christ’s peace.

Let’s pray: Father, we lift up our friend right now. Guard them from every evil intent. In Jesus’ name, we cancel any spoken or unspoken curse, and we ask You to build a hedge of protection around their mind, body, and spirit. Give them the peace that passes understanding, and quiet their heart when they feel threatened. We also pray for this man, not for harm, but for his rescue. Open his eyes to Your truth, break whatever holds him in darkness, and turn his animosity into a desire for You. Thank You that You are our shield and our defender. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Hush, hush, this is not the prayer of faith, nor the pattern which the Spirit of God has laid before you. The cry of your heart in this trouble must be remolded in the furnace of the Word, for the weapon you have grasped is not of the heavenly armory.

Consider the great exchange of which I have often spoken. The whole curse due to sin is a thunder of threatened wrath, the very essence of Mount Ebal’s terror. But what says the Scripture? “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us.” If you are in Christ Jesus, there is now no curse that can alight upon you from any man’s mouth or any demon’s malice, for the curse fell upon the Surety in your stead. Balaam learned this when he said, “I have received commandment to bless: and he has blessed; and I cannot reverse it.” The evil you fear is but a shadow-arrow shot against a shield of iron. It cannot pierce the breastplate of Christ’s righteousness. Let not your faith shrink from this high ground, for it is your purchased inheritance to be beyond the reach of any malediction born of earth or hell.

Now, what prayer then is left to you? The intercessory prayer which is the sweetest God ever hears. Did Job not turn the captivity of his latter end when he prayed not against his miserable comforters, but for them? The Lord bade those very men go to His servant Job, that he might offer sacrifice for them. The prayer you have framed seeks a recompense of evil, a heating of hands in judgment, but the gospel weapon is the weapon of all-prevailing love. Would you have this man’s sin become a stigma upon his soul forever? Rather pray, “Father, forgive him, for he knows not what he does.” Ask that his hands, instead of growing hot with some strange judgment, might burn with a holy shame and be lifted in supplication to the God he now reviles. This is the harder prayer, the braver prayer, the prayer that proves the Spirit of Christ dwells in you. Humility does not degenerate into a cry for my enemy’s pain; it rises to plead for my enemy’s salvation.

You warn of spiritual warfare. That is well, for the fight is real. But the victory is not found in sending the artillery of heaven against a poor sinner’s person; it is found in the Prayer Meeting of the soul, where we wrestle not against flesh and blood. Let us continue “with one accord in prayer and supplication,” and when that united cry ascends, the hindrance of unholiness is put away, and the Divine Power falls. Seek the Lord to render the enemy’s arrows pointless, not to send them back to his own hurt, but to display the impregnable defense of Christ around you, so that he may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Let your prayer be like David’s, “Yet my prayer shall be in their calamities.” If he persists in his folly, his calamity is sure enough without your desiring it, but your prayer can yet be a means to pull him from the pit if the Lord grants him repentance.

Put away, then, the fiery thought of a retaliating blaze. The curse is a real and terrible thing, for God Himself curses the sin, not sparing His own Son when He was made sin for us. But you, who have fled to the cleft of that same Rock, are called to the ministry of blessing. Let the intercessory prayer go up as incense, and leave the matter of all judgments in the hand of Him who judges righteously. Christ’s prayer for His murderers was not, “Heat their hands with fire,” but a cry for their cleansing. Follow that Model. The Lord quicken you in this way, giving you a life of zeal tempered with pity, and may the answer He gives, though it may come in a form you expect not, make even this trial to limp no more in weakness but in the power of a conquered and conquering faith. The last enemy, Death, is yet to be destroyed; until then, wrestle for souls, not against them.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The entire evil springs from a wrong desire. You ask that curses be sent back upon the head of the one who utters them, and that his hands grow hot as a sign. But consider what the Scripture teaches and what our Master commands. He does not bid us to call down affliction on others, but to bless those who curse us, to do good to those who hate us, and to pray for those who spitefully use us. The Apostle, when he suffered, did not seek such retribution. He committed himself to Him who judges righteously, knowing that vengeance belongs to the Lord, not to our own wrath.

You stand in Christ by faith. Hear then how no curse can cling to you. The Law spoke a curse on all who did not continue in everything written in it, and Christ has redeemed us from that curse, having become a curse for us. So what curse from a man’s lips can harm the one whom the blood of Christ has blessed? If you are in Him, the blessing of Abraham has come upon you. The curse cannot land where God has pronounced blessing. The evil that man intends recoils not by your own returning of it, but by the very nature of the cross that has disarmed all principalities and powers.

What then should you do? Instead of praying that his hands burn, pray that his heart be made new. Ask that the fire of divine love, not of punishment, seize him. For if you return reviling for reviling, you are overcome by evil. But if you overcome evil with good, you heap coals of fire on his head in a way that may lead to repentance, not mere physical pain. The true recompense and rest come at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with His mighty angels, when He will afflict those who afflict you, if they do not repent. Your part now is to commit the matter to the righteous Judge and to occupy your soul with mercy. Let your companions in prayer be those of a spiritual mind who will help you to bless and not curse. By these you will track out the stranger, clothe the naked, and put an end to the distresses of others, and in so doing you will heap up for yourself a treasure in heaven, far above the petty victories of this present malice.
