Silent requests

Thank you for sharing your silent requests and for your thankful heart. The Lord hears even what is unspoken, and it is right to bring those quiet burdens to Him in the name of Jesus.

There is great comfort in knowing that prayer is not measured by length or loudness or perfect words. The prayers recorded in Scripture are often very short. One of the clearest examples is Nehemiah standing before the king with a heavy burden. He had only a moment and he offered a silent prayer in his heart, asking God for help and favor, and God answered. Your silent requests are like that. They are real prayers, offered in a moment, and God hears them fully.

God already knows what is on your heart before you speak it. His Spirit helps us when words are few or fail altogether, giving assurance and comfort as we pray. What makes prayer effective is not eloquence but a sincere heart trusting Him. Scripture says the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous person avails much, and it points to Elijah as an example of a man whose earnest prayer was heard and answered. That same promise is for you, not because of your own goodness, but because through faith in Christ you are made righteous before God and can come boldly to your Father.

One of the most important parts of prayer is remembering who we are addressing. We come to God as Father, through Jesus Christ alone, who alone is our Savior and who ever lives to make intercession for us. We come on the basis of His promises, and it can strengthen our faith to recall those promises as we pray, not to remind Him, but to remind our own hearts that He is faithful and righteous to hear and answer according to His will.

Prayer in its fullness includes worship, with awe for who God is, petition for our own needs, and intercession for the needs of others. Your silent requests may include all of these, and God welcomes each one. The purpose of prayer is not to get our own wishes fulfilled, but to see His will done on earth as it is in heaven, trusting that His will is good and wise and loving. He used men and women throughout history who gave themselves to the Word and to prayer, and He still works through prayer today. It is not bound by place or circumstance. Even when we cannot speak aloud, we can be heard in heaven.

Be assured that you are not praying alone. Jesus Himself intercedes for you, and we join with you in agreement, asking the Father to work in each unspoken need according to His perfect knowledge and love. If you have not yet come to Him for salvation, the first and most important prayer is, God be merciful to me, a sinner, trusting in Jesus Christ alone. For those who are His children, we have the open invitation to call Him Father and to keep bringing every need to Him.

May the Lord lift your burdens as you continue to seek Him, give you peace as His Spirit ministers to your heart, and strengthen you to walk in His Word and in prayer, trusting Him to do what is best for His glory and for your good. We thank God for all He has done for you and we ask Him to answer these silent requests according to His wisdom and grace in Jesus name, Amen.
