Scared

I just got abused by my abusive and toxic mom. I got to see my daughter at least but then she got out of her car while I was trying to see my daughter at my door and tried to hug me and see my son. I'm no contact with her. She started yelling his name and trying to see him and starting yelling and making threats. I'm scared that I messed up God's provision, peace and blessings as well as favor by telling my son (child) what see said and threatened us with. I'm also scared God will take away our home and that God will punish me Also please pray for my daughter as my mom is using her as a tool and trying to manipulate and hurt her. Please pray God will place His hand on her and protect her heart, innocence, peace and mind and one day she will come home. Please pray that God will keep her as she is still very young and shield her from any tactics they use and she can and will see the truth about them and that I love her and I'm hurting for her and myself

We have read your request and we are standing with you in prayer together in Jesus' name, and our hearts ache with you over what you endured. What happened to you was wrong, and God sees the fear and the pain you are carrying right now for yourself, for your son, and for your daughter. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and He is your refuge and strength. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 46:1 says God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. He is not distant from this abuse and He does not approve of it.

We want to gently speak to the fear you expressed that you have messed up God's provision, peace, blessings and favor by telling your son what was said, and that God will punish you or take away your home. That fear is not from the Lord. 2 Timothy 1:7 says God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus in Romans 8:1. God is not an abusive parent looking to punish you for being overwhelmed in a frightening moment. He is a good Father who understands your distress and wants to give you wisdom and peace. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

We also hear your fear about your mother and the boundaries you have set. The Bible calls us to honor our father and mother in Exodus 20:12, but honor does not mean allowing ongoing abuse, yelling, threats, or manipulation to continue, especially when children are present. It is right and biblical to set firm boundaries to protect yourself and your children from harm. Psalm 27:10 says When my father and my mother forsake me, then Yahweh will take me up. God Himself will be your defender and your children's defender when a parent acts in a toxic and abusive way. Abuse and using a child as a tool to manipulate and hurt others is sin and we rebuke that behavior as completely contrary to God's will. God calls parents to not provoke their children in Ephesians 6:4.

About telling your son what was said, we do not condemn you. You were scared and you were trying to process a threatening situation. God knows your heart was to protect, not to harm. At the same time we encourage you to seek the Lord for wisdom going forward about what is age appropriate to share with your son, so that his little heart is not burdened with adult threats that may create anxiety for him. James 1:5 says But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. It may help to talk with a trusted pastor or a godly counselor about how to speak truthfully to your son in a way that reassures him of God's protection and your protection over him without repeating harmful threats in detail. And please, if threats were made, consider documenting what happened and seeking wise, safe help from trusted authorities or counselors to keep you and your children safe. Your safety matters to God.

We noticed you spoke of God but did not mention Jesus, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and peace with Him. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing He died for your sins and rose again, and to call on His name for salvation, for protection, and for daily help. It is in His name we pray and find refuge.

We now pray together for you and your children.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear mother and her son and her daughter to You. Lord, You see the abuse and the threats that were spoken, You see the fear and the trembling, and we ask You to be their shield and their dwelling place. Psalm 91:1-2 says He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. We will say of Yahweh, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. Place Your hand of protection over this home, Lord, and let no weapon formed against them prosper. Quiet the fear that You will punish or take away what You have provided, and instead pour out Your perfect peace that guards hearts and minds. Give this mother wisdom beyond her own understanding for how to protect her son and how to speak to him with calm and reassurance, and heal his heart from anything frightening he has heard. Lord, we especially lift up her precious daughter who is still very young. We ask You to keep her innocence, guard her mind and her heart, and surround her with Your angels. Psalm 91:11 says For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. Do not let manipulation or tactics turn her heart from truth. Let her see and know how deeply her mother loves her, and protect her until the day You bring her home safely. We ask You to work in the heart of her mother, to bring conviction and repentance where there is abuse, and to stop every plan meant to harm these children. We pray You will provide continued provision, safety, and favor over this family, and remind this mother daily that You will never leave her nor forsake her in Deuteronomy 31:6 and that Your love casts out fear. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ we pray and trust You. Amen.

We encourage you to keep bringing every fear to Jesus, to stay in His Word daily, and to lean on safe, godly community around you. You have not lost God's favor by being afraid. He is holding you and your children in His hand and He is faithful to keep you.

We hear how frightening this was, trying to protect your children at your own door while your mom was yelling threats and trying to see your son, and now carrying the heavy worry that you did something wrong by telling him what she said. We do not see you as having ruined God's provision or favor by trying to keep your son safe with honest, age appropriate words. God sees your heart to protect both of your children, and His care for you is not withdrawn because you spoke out of concern.

We are holding you and your children in prayer, especially your daughter. We are asking God to guard her heart, mind, innocence and peace, to keep her safe from manipulation, and to help her know how deeply you love her and hurt for her. We are also praying for your son to feel secure, and for you to have peace and steadiness in your home as you hold difficult boundaries.

One steady next step that can help is to reach out in person to one safe, trusted person, a pastor, counselor, or advocate, who can help you think through safety and support for you and your children alongside prayer. If it is safe to do so, keeping a simple written note of what was said and when can be helpful to share with that trusted helper.

Father, we lift this family to You. Cover this mom and her children with Your protection, calm their fear, guard her daughter's heart and mind, and give this mom wisdom and peace day by day. Keep them safe in Your hands. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your trembling letter has been read with much care and has been carried at once to the throne of grace. The fear and dismay which now presses upon your heart is a very common disease of good men and women. This disease of fear came into man's heart with sin. Adam was never afraid of his God till he had broken His commands, and since then even the children of God have often been sore amazed and in an agony of soul, not so much from fear of being finally cast away, but from fear lest they should fail or be left to dishonor the Lord.

Hear then the command and the promise which the Lord gives to such as you are. Fear thou not, for I am with thee, be not dismayed, for I am thy God, I will strengthen thee, yea I will help thee, yea I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. This is a promise given in three or four ways so that we may chase fear away with a whip of many thongs. Immutability itself will be with you to be your succor. All the attributes of God will be with you to be your treasury.

You write that you fear you have messed up God's provision and peace and favor by telling your son what was said and threatened, and that God will take away your home and punish you. That fear would bring dishonor upon the truthfulness and goodness and immutability of God, and no child of God ought to give way to it. The Lord does not withdraw His provision because His child in weakness and distress speaks the truth to protect another child. He knows your foolishness and your sins are not hid from Him, yet the blood of Jesus Christ His dear Son cleanses from all sin, and being justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Your home and your daily bread are in His hands, and He has said, I will help thee. The fear that you may lose all you have in the world is natural, but it is not necessary to the saint. The Lord who has taken you from the ends of the earth and called you to Himself will not cast you away for an imperfect word spoken in fear and sorrow.

What time you are afraid, trust in Him. Faith may go hand in hand with fear for a season. Let your great fear of grieving so tender a Father overcome that lesser fear that He will reject you, and fly into His bosom. When faith gets stronger, fears are expelled. Walk much with God in prayer and in His Word. Great peace have they which love thy law, and nothing shall offend them. To love His law is to find a ceaseless stream of consolation, meat to eat that the world knows not of, so that though you be poor or slandered or sorely tried, you can bear it all because the Lord is with you.

We will pray for you and for your children as you have asked. We will pray that the Lord will place His hand upon your daughter and keep her, that He will protect her heart and her innocence and her peace and her mind, that He will shield her from every tactic and manipulation, and that in His own time she will see the truth and be brought home in safety. We will pray that He will keep your son also, and guard his young heart from terror, and give you wisdom to speak to him with gentleness and truth. We will pray that the Lord will keep your home and give you quietness and safety, and that He will restrain the tongue and hand that would threaten you, and bring you out with a high hand as He brought Israel of old.

Seek the Lord daily, and seek also the help of godly and prudent persons near you, that you may be safe and wisely counseled in these threats. Forsake not the assembling of yourselves together, and converse much with those who live near to God, for the secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him.

May the Lord grant you to climb the steps of that gracious ladder, to have faith with your fear, and afterward to have faith without fear, upheld by the right hand of His righteousness.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your heart has been heard in this frightening moment, and I am praying with you right now. What you experienced was wrong and distressing, and it is understandable that you feel shaken and afraid after being yelled at and threatened at your own door. Please know that God sees what happened, He is near to you, and He has not turned away.

Scripture says God is not a God far off, but a God near at hand, present everywhere to those who call on Him in earnest. While you are yet speaking, He says, Here I am. You do not have to fear that you have lost His provision, His peace, His blessing or His favor because you told your son what was said. God is not quick to punish, but eager to show mercy and to do good to His children. His love for you is not so fragile that one anxious conversation in a moment of fear would cause Him to take away your home or to punish you. He is your Father, and He stands ready to hear you when you call. Sins do separate us from Him, but righteousness draws us near, and that righteousness is given to us through Jesus Christ alone as we turn to Him in faith and repentance. If you are worried that you spoke unwisely to your son, bring that to the Lord honestly, ask for His forgiveness and His wisdom, and rest in His grace. He forgives when we come with a sincere heart, and He does not require a perfect performance to keep His care over you.

For the future, it is wise to be careful about what we share with young children. They need truth spoken in a way that protects their hearts and does not place adult burdens on them. If you feel you shared too much or in a way that was driven by fear, ask God to redeem it, and trust Him to guard your son's heart. You can talk with your son simply and calmly, reassuring him of your love and of God's protection, without repeating threats or details that would frighten him. Seek counsel from a trusted pastor or wise believer who knows your situation to help you find words that are both honest and age appropriate.

I am praying for your daughter as you asked. May the Lord place His hand upon her, protect her heart and mind, guard her innocence and peace, and shield her from manipulation and tactics meant to confuse or hurt her. Though she is very young, God sees her and is able to keep her. Pray that He will help her to see the truth in His time, to know deeply that you love her, and that one day, if it is His will, she may come home. Ask Him to surround her with His presence where you cannot be, and to preserve what is good and pure in her.

I am also praying for you and your son. May God grant you safety in your home, quietness from threats, and wisdom for boundaries. Being no contact with an abusive parent is a painful but at times necessary decision to protect yourself and your children, and forgiveness in Christ does not require you to open the door to ongoing harm. If threats continue, please seek help from safe people around you, your church family, and where needed, the proper authorities, so that you are not carrying this fear alone.

May the Lord give you peace that guards your heart, assurance that your home and your daily provision are in His hands and not hanging by one mistake, and confidence that He hears you even now as you pray. Keep calling on Him, keep bringing your daughter before Him each day, and trust that He who is near will keep you and your children in His care through Jesus Christ our Lord.
