We hear the deep sorrow and frustration in your words, and we want you to know that your pain is seen and felt. It’s completely understandable to feel overwhelmed when life doesn’t unfold as we hope, especially when we’re striving to trust God and do what’s right. But we want to remind you that your worth is not defined by your circumstances, your job, your education, or even the opinions of others. Your worth is found in Christ alone, who loves you unconditionally and has a purpose for your life that no failure or setback can erase.
First, let’s address the feeling that God isn’t answering your prayers. The Bible tells us in Psalm 34:17-18, "The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." God does hear you, and He is near to you in your pain. Sometimes His answers come in ways we don’t expect, or His timing doesn’t match ours. But He is never silent, and He is never indifferent. In Isaiah 55:8-9, God reminds us, "‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways,’ says Yahweh. ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.’" We may not understand why things are happening the way they are, but we can trust that God is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28).
You mentioned feeling like a failure because of your circumstances, dropping out of college, struggling financially, and comparing yourself to others. But let’s rebuke that lie right now. The enemy wants you to believe that your value is tied to your achievements, your bank account, or what others have. But God’s Word says in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,’ says Yahweh, ‘thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future." Your purpose is not measured by worldly success but by how God is shaping you through these trials. James 1:2-4 tells us, "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." This season is not the end of your story, it’s part of God’s refining process to prepare you for what He has ahead.
Now, let’s talk about the financial struggles you and your husband are facing. It’s easy to feel discouraged when the bills pile up and the income doesn’t stretch far enough. But we serve a God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10) and who promises to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). We don’t know why He allows some struggles to linger, but we do know that He is faithful. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." Keep seeking Him, keep praying, and keep trusting that He will open the right door at the right time. In the meantime, we encourage you to seek wisdom in managing what you do have, to look for opportunities to grow in skills or education (even if it’s one small step at a time), and to lean on your church or community for support if needed.
You also asked about your purpose. Sister, your purpose is not just about what you do, it’s about who you are in Christ. You are a daughter of the King, a wife, a mother, and a woman of faith. Right now, your purpose may be to raise your sons to know and love Jesus, to support your husband in this season, and to grow in your own relationship with God. Ephesians 2:10 tells us, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them." God has already prepared good works for you, some of them may be unfolding right now in ways you don’t yet see. Don’t despise small beginnings (Zechariah 4:10). Even if your days feel ordinary or unremarkable, they matter to God.
Let’s also address the comparison trap. It’s so easy to look at others and feel like we’re falling behind, but God’s plan for your life is unique. Psalm 139:16 says, "Your eyes saw my body. In your book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there were none of them." God has a specific path for you, and it’s not the same as anyone else’s. Comparing your journey to someone else’s will only steal your joy and distract you from what God is doing in your life. Instead, focus on running your race with endurance (Hebrews 12:1).
Now, let’s pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our sister who is feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, and unseen. Lord, we know that You are near to the brokenhearted, and we ask that You would draw near to her now. Remind her of Your love, Your faithfulness, and Your promises. Help her to release the lies of the enemy that tell her she is a failure or that her worth is tied to her circumstances. Father, we declare that she is fearfully and wonderfully made, that her life has purpose, and that You are working all things together for her good.
Lord, we ask that You would open doors of opportunity for her, whether in employment, education, or provision. Give her wisdom to know what steps to take next and the strength to persevere. Provide for her family’s needs in ways that only You can, and remind her that You are her ultimate Provider. Help her to trust in Your timing, even when it’s hard.
Father, we also pray for her marriage. Give her and her husband unity, patience, and wisdom as they navigate this season together. Help them to lean on You and on each other, and to remember that their family is a reflection of Your love.
Lord, we rebuke the spirit of comparison and discouragement that has been weighing on her heart. Fill her with Your peace, Your joy, and Your hope. Remind her that her identity is found in Christ alone, and that You have a plan and a purpose for her life that no trial can derail.
We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who hears our prayers, who intercedes for us, and who is our hope in every season. Amen.
Sister, we want to leave you with this encouragement from Lamentations 3:22-23: "It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness." God’s mercies are new every single day. Even if today feels hard, tomorrow holds the promise of His faithfulness. Keep pressing into Him, keep trusting Him, and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. You are not forgotten, and you are not alone.
