Rental Arrears

We hear your cry for help in this time of financial struggle, and we stand with you in fervent prayer. The weight of unpaid bills and rental arrears can feel overwhelming, but we serve a God who is Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who provides (Genesis 22:14). He knows your needs before you even ask (Matthew 6:8), and He invites you to cast all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).

First, we want to encourage you to trust in the Lord’s provision. In Philippians 4:19, it is written, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." This is not a promise of wealth or excess, but of sufficiency, God will meet your needs as you seek Him first (Matthew 6:33). We pray that He opens doors of opportunity for you, whether through employment, wise stewardship, or unexpected blessings, so that you may honor your commitments and experience His faithfulness.

We also urge you to take practical steps alongside your prayers. Proverbs 6:6-8 reminds us to look to the ant, which prepares and stores in times of plenty. If possible, seek counsel from a wise and godly financial advisor or mentor who can help you create a plan to manage your debts. Humble yourself before your landlord or creditors, explain your situation, and ask for grace or a payment plan if needed. Proverbs 22:7 warns that "the borrower is servant to the lender," so we must strive to live within our means and avoid further entanglement in debt.

Let us pray together now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. You are the God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10), and nothing is too hard for You (Jeremiah 32:17). We lift up this dear one to You, asking that You would move in their financial situation. Lord, provide for their needs according to Your riches in glory. Open doors of opportunity, grant them favor with those they owe, and give them wisdom to steward what You provide.

Father, we ask that You would guard their heart against fear, anxiety, or despair. Remind them that You are their Provider and that You will never leave nor forsake them (Hebrews 13:5). Help them to trust in You with all their heart and lean not on their own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). Give them peace that surpasses all understanding as they wait on You (Philippians 4:7).

Lord, if there are areas where they have not been faithful with what You’ve entrusted to them, reveal those to them. Help them to repent and turn from any unwise spending or neglect of responsibility. Teach them to be content in all circumstances (Philippians 4:11-12) and to seek Your kingdom above all else.

We rebuke the spirit of lack and poverty in Jesus’ name. We declare that this situation is not too big for You, Lord. You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). We thank You in advance for Your provision and for the testimony that will come from this trial.

In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Lastly, we encourage you to hold fast to your faith. This trial is temporary, but God’s faithfulness is eternal. Psalm 37:25 says, "I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread." Stand on this promise, and do not lose heart. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2), and trust that He will see you through this season. If you have not already, consider joining or connecting with a local body of believers who can walk alongside you, pray with you, and offer practical support as you navigate this challenge. You are not alone, God is with you, and so are we.

We hear the weight behind this prayer, the pressure of overdue rent and mounting bills can feel like the walls are closing in. It’s not just numbers on a page; it’s the loss of sleep, the tightness in the chest, the wondering how you’ll get through the week. You’ve done the right thing by bringing it straight to God, honestly and urgently.

While you keep praying, we’d encourage you to take one small, practical step: don’t carry this alone. Many local churches and community ministries offer short-term assistance or can walk with you through a plan, budgeting, talking with your landlord, finding help that’s already available. Even just having another person know what you’re facing can lift a surprising amount of that weight. If your own church has a benevolence fund or a pastor who knows your situation, reach out today. You’re not begging; you’re letting the body of Christ do what it’s meant to do. And if navigating the financial piece feels overwhelming, a Christian financial counselor or even a trusted friend with good sense can help you sort through what comes first and what can wait.

God hasn’t promised to drop a check in the mail tomorrow, but He has promised to be with you in the struggle and to provide what we need, often through the hands of His people. We’re praying with you, right now.

Jesus, we lift up this child of Yours who is facing hard financial pressure. You know the exact numbers, the deadlines, the anxious thoughts that come in the night. Please open a door of provision, whether through work, unexpected help, or wise planning. Give courage to ask for help and humility to receive it. Grant peace that doesn’t depend on the bank balance, and keep hope alive even when the math doesn’t add up yet. In Your name, we pray. Amen.

Of all men who ever lived, the Prophet of Nazareth was the most practical. Jesus deals with actual evils whose cure is urgent. Your rental arrears and mounting bills are not sentimental grievances; they are a deep, true, undoubted, urgent need. You cry out for money, but beneath that cry there is a far greater necessity. You have need of healing, indeed! The disease has corrupted our essential being and rendered us hopelessly unclean. Day by day you are proving your need of healing by your actual sin, and your present straits are but the exterior index of that interior bankruptcy.

There is an old proverb which says, A friend in need is a friend, indeed. Christ is the Friend of sinners in their time of need. You have gone on in profligacy and extravagance till you are brought to beggary, yet even now you may come to Christ. But beware of a repentance that bargains only for coin to quiet a landlord. Seek to get repentance at the foot of the Cross. You say you cannot pray as you want, but if you could pray as you ought, would Christ then be able to save you? You need not wonder that He is called a friend of publicans and sinners in a very practical manner, for intensity of heart is sure to bring forth fruit. Test Him as often as need arises, there is nothing like putting Christ to the test.

Do not look to your own management and say, I can manage the affair very well. None can keep alive his own soul. The fat need Jesus as much as the lean, the rich as much as the poor. Your urgent necessity is not merely rent, but righteousness; not merely bread, but the Bread of Life. You have done well to learn the letter of the Truth of God, but you still need the Spirit of God to make it the light and power of God to your soul. Oh, may God keep you, for if He leaves you, you need no devil to destroy you, you shall prove a devil to yourself. There is no need to wait upon God for direction in so simple a matter? That proud thought is the very ruin of your peace. You are a stranger to peace because you are a stranger to Christ.

He has obtained eternal salvation through His one offering. There is no need for these fooleries of self-reformation or despairing penance. Christ has completed the Atonement, you need not suffer thus. He was so poor that He had not where to lay His head, so despised that even His own received Him not, that He might be the Savior you need. His peace abounds in the hour of need. Until that iron bar shall fasten the door of Hell forever, let not Satan persuade you that you are beyond all hope. Come with your debts, your sins, your fears. A friend in need is a friend indeed, and Jesus Christ is the very friend you need.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
