Relentless prayer for an unquenchable thirst for truth and righteousness.

Kensem

Beloved of All
Heavenly Father, we come to you in Jesus name

It is written, 'The truth shall set you free.'
Lord Jesus, we pray that you save the team at ###, their lawyers and legal representatives, who are bound by Satan's lies.
We ask your precious blood over those who are chosen and Christians. May you cover them and give them peace and understanding.
May you teach them to be righteous and compassionate.
As we can see, even those who are lawyers and studied law can engage themselves in horrible sins.
Lord, I pray you forgive their sins and let them not do anything that is evil in your eyes.
Lord, we do not wish to boast before You, nor do we wish to look down on lawyers who fall short of Your glory.
However, we humbly acknowledge that we cannot always expect the educated to act righteously.
Lord it is written in Psalms 51,
16For You do not delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it;
You are not pleased with burnt offering. [1 Sam 15:22]
17My sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit;
A broken and contrite heart such, O God, You will not despise.
Lord, I pray in Jesus name that you work on their hearts so that they can recognise their sins and hate their sins enough so that they don't continue to live a sinful life.
Lord it grieves my heart how these people are disregarding human life and honest communication.
Stir their hearts, Lord, and give them an unquenchable thirst for truth and righteousness.
We thank Your Holiness and Your Holy Spirit who is interceding for us and them all the time.
We exalt your name on high, Jesus Christ.
Let your will be done, Heavenly Father, amen

We join you in this relentless prayer for an unquenchable thirst for truth and righteousness, and we are encouraged by the humility and brokenness in your intercession. You have rightly acknowledged that education and legal training do not make a person righteous, for it is written for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:23. We cannot expect the educated to act righteously apart from the transforming work of Christ, and we appreciate that you do not boast nor look down on those who fall short, but instead pray for mercy.

We agree with you that only the truth of Christ can set people free as Jesus said, You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free John 8:32. The enemy blinds minds, for the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving 2 Cor 4:4, and what you describe as being bound by Satan's lies and disregarding human life and honest communication is evidence of hearts that need to be made new. We also join you in praying for those who are already in Christ, that they would be covered, kept in peace and given understanding in the midst of this difficult situation.

Your prayer from Psalm 51 is beautiful and right. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise Psalm 51:17. That is exactly what we ask God to work in the team and the lawyers and legal representatives you mentioned, that He would give them a new heart and put a new spirit within them and take away the stony heart out of their flesh Ezek 36:26, so that they would not only recognize their sin but hate it and turn from it. We pray they would learn what the Lord requires, to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God Mic 6:8, and that they would know the joy of doing justice Prov 21:15.

We love your request that they would hunger and thirst for righteousness, for Jesus promised, Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled Matt 5:6. Only He can create that thirst and only He can satisfy it. And we thank God with you that the Holy Spirit is interceding, for the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we do not know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered Rom 8:26.

So we pray together with you now. Heavenly Father, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we can approach Your throne. We lift up this team and their lawyers and legal representatives to You. Lord, have mercy and save those who do not yet know You, for You desire all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth 1 Tim 2:4. Draw them out of darkness into Your marvelous light. For those who are Yours, cover them with the blood of Jesus, guard their hearts and minds, grant them peace that passes understanding and wisdom to walk in compassion and truth. Father, break the power of lies and give to all involved a broken and contrite heart that hates sin and loves what is good in Your eyes. Stir their hearts to thirst for truth and righteousness above advantage or profit, and teach them to honor human life and to speak honestly. Let Your will be done in this situation and let Your name be exalted. We ask that You would be glorified as You bring conviction, repentance, and restoration where possible, and that justice and mercy would meet. We pray all of this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We have been praying with you over this burden for truth to prevail. It is clear how much it grieves you to see honesty set aside and lives treated lightly, and how sincerely you want God to work in hearts that seem hardened.

We appreciate the humility in your prayer, not wanting to look down on anyone, but simply asking God to do what only He can do, soften hearts, bring conviction, and create a real hunger for what is right and compassionate. You are right that education and position do not by themselves make a person righteous. Lasting change comes as God works within a person, and your intercession invites Him into that work.

Please keep bringing these lawyers and the whole team before the Lord as you have been. It helps to keep praying with both honesty about the wrong and hope that God can transform anyone who turns to Him. And as you pray for them, we also pray you will know His peace and steadiness, so this burden does not wear you down.

Father, in Jesus name we lift up this team and their representatives to You. Work in their hearts to love truth and to act with righteousness and compassion. Guard those who belong to You with Your peace and understanding, and let Your will be done in this whole situation. Amen.

Original text:

Your burden before the Lord is a right and weighty one, and we do join with you in it before the throne of grace. To pray for an unquenchable thirst for truth and righteousness is to pray according to the will of God, for our Lord Himself has said, Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.

You have prayed that those who are bound by Satan's lies might be set free by the truth, and you have done well to remember that the truth which sets free is not an abstract notion, but Christ Himself. He is the Sun of Righteousness, the center and King of all truth, and apart from Him there is no liberty. It is in His name alone that salvation is found, and it is in His name alone that we dare to approach the Father.

You have asked that God would work upon hearts that have disregarded human life and honest communication, that He would give a broken and contrite heart as in Psalm 51. Take comfort that such a prayer is most agreeable to Scripture. The sacrifice acceptable to God is indeed a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart He will not despise. Yet remember what has so often been set before you, that judgments, even the most terrible of them, do not in themselves produce a satisfactory repentance in the minds of men. A carnal repentance may be wrought by fear or by exposure, but true repentance, the repentance which is the work of the Spirit of God and which God accepts, gives God glory. It makes a rainbow with tears of grief for sin and glances of hope at the love of Christ and His great finished work.

Therefore we do not pray that men would merely be frightened or shamed into an outward reform, but that the Holy Spirit would work in them that repentance unto life which is practical and lasting, which yields works meet for repentance. Any repentance that keeps a sinner from believing in Christ is a repentance that needs to be repented of. True repentance and faith are inseparable. Repentance is to leave the sins we loved before and to show that we in earnest grieve by doing so no more, and faith is to look out of self to Christ and to Christ only. We must preach and pray for repentance in the name of Jesus, which is to say, as the gift of God. Sinners are not to draw up repentance from the depths of their own heart as water from a well, but to ask Christ to work repentance in them by His Holy Spirit through belief of the truth.

And this repentance is not a thing done once and then forgotten. Repentance lives as long as faith lives. Sweet sister Repentance is charming company and should walk with us all our days, even until we enter glory. So we pray not for a momentary regret, but for a deep, abiding hatred of sin and love of righteousness.

We also remember that the Lord does not merely drive men to repentance as a slave is driven with the whip, but His goodness leads men to repentance. It is the kindness of God, His patience and longsuffering, that should melt the heart. May that goodness be seen by those for whom you pray, and may it lead them to turn.

So let us pray together now.

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son, our only Saviour, we ask Thee to have mercy upon those named in this prayer, the team at that place and their lawyers and representatives. Thou knowest their hearts and their deeds. We ask not that Thou wouldst justify any evil, but that Thou wouldst grant unto them that godly sorrow which needeth not to be repented of. Give them broken and contrite hearts, that they may recognise their sin, hate their sin, and turn from it to Christ. Cover those who are Thine with the precious blood of Jesus, give them peace and understanding, and teach all concerned to love truth and to do righteously and compassionately. Create in them a true and unquenchable thirst for righteousness, that they may hunger no more after deceit but after Christ, who is our righteousness. Let Thy will be done, and let Thy name be glorified, as Thou savest sinners by grace through faith in Jesus. Amen.
