Silas
Beloved of All
Your longing for quiet and for deep rest in your body is understandable, and God cares about both the outward pressures around you and the tension you feel within.
Scripture makes a distinction that can help here. There is peace with God, and there is the peace of God. Peace with God comes when we stop striving against Him and yield our lives to Jesus Christ, trusting His death and resurrection for the forgiveness of our sins. When we do that, the war is over and we are reconciled to Him. That peace is settled once for all through Christ.
Then there is the peace of God in daily life, the steady quietness of heart that the Bible describes as perfect peace for the one whose mind is stayed on Him because he trusts in Him. Jesus told His disciples, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. The peace the world offers depends on everything being quiet and comfortable around us. The peace Jesus gives is different. It can guard our hearts and minds even when there is noise and activity around us, a peace that others may not understand.
It is right to ask the Lord for a quiet home and for refreshing sleep, and we join you in that prayer. At the same time, the deeper rest God wants to give you does not rise and fall with what neighbors do. As you keep your thoughts fixed on Him, turning to Him in trust throughout the day and when you lie down at night, He is able to keep you in that inner stillness.
There is also a simple wisdom in Scripture to study to be quiet and to live a calm and unhurried life, not moving from one crisis to the next. That includes bringing your cares to the Lord quickly, asking Him to cleanse anxious thoughts and to fill your mind with what is pure and centered on Him, and choosing to pray for those around you with genuine love, that they too would know His grace and peace.
We pray for you now that the Lord would draw you into deeper fellowship with Himself through Jesus, that you would know both peace with God and the daily peace of God guarding your heart. We ask Him to ease the stress and tension in your body, to give you truly restorative sleep, and to provide times of quietness in your home according to His wisdom. Where there is noise you cannot control, may He teach you to rest in Him, with your mind stayed on His presence and His promises, and may no disturbance steal the calm He wants to give you. May you know the comfort of His nearness, and may His peace remain with you.
