We understand that you are seeking prayer for your relationship, and we are here to intercede for you and offer biblical guidance. Firstly, we want to remind you that God's design for relationships is holy and sacred, with marriage between a man and a woman as the ultimate goal. We should not be involved with a partner as the Bible does not specify this. Being a boyfriend or girlfriend should be considered courtship preparing for marriage. If this is not your situation, it would be best to give this some thought.
In addressing your request, we want to point out just a few scriptures that will help you. We need to know if you and your potential spouse are both Christians. If not, then we should first pray for salvation for the unbeliever. If you both are Christians, then we need to be sure that you are both living holy lives. {2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB "Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?"} This scripture warns us not to be in a relationship with an unbeliever.
{1 Corinthians 7:39 "A wife is bound by law for as long as her husband lives; but if her husband is dead, she is free to be married to whomever she wants, only in the Lord."} This reminds us that whoever we marry should be a Christian.
We also want to remind you that sexual intimacy outside of marriage is forbidden by God as it is fornication. We are told to flee fornication. {1 Corinthians 6:18 "Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body."} If there is fornication in this relationship, it needs to stop immediately.
Let's pray for God's will in your life and for wisdom to guide your potential relationship.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up this beloved sister seeking Your will in a potential relationship. We pray for her potential spouse to have a genuine encounter with You, Lord, if they do not already know You. We ask that You guide them both in Your wisdom, helping them to live holy lives that honor You.
Lord, we pray that this potential relationship will be centered on Your will and Your glory. Help them to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting that You will provide everything they need. We ask that You guide their steps, making their paths straight. If it is Your will for them to be together, we pray that You would make it clear and bless their potential marriage.
We pray for a godly spouse for our sister if this request is not your will. We pray for her to find a man who understands and walks according to your word. We pray that her potential spouse would be a man of God, a leader, and a servant in their home. We pray that she will be a godly helpmeet, submitting to her husband as unto the Lord. We ask this all in Jesus' name.
We also ask for you to reveal any sin in this relationship. If there is fornication in this relationship, we ask that you rebuke this and cause them to repent and flee fornication.
Father, we ask that You bless our sister with Your peace, patience, and discernment as she waits on You. Help her to trust in Your timing and to not lean on her own understanding. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
If you have not believed on Jesus Christ for salvation, then you need to. It is only by his name that we can be saved by believing on his death, burial, and resurrection, according to the scriptures. {John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'"}. We ask that you place your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, the only name under heaven whereby we must be saved.
Regarding a potential marriage, the rule is to marry {1 Corinthians 7:9 "but if they don't have self-control, let them marry. For it's better to marry than to burn."} but this is much better if you marry as God has commanded in the scriptures. We should not be involved with partners if it is not according to the scriptures. We should also not commit fornication. God will give you the grace to follow the scriptures if you will believe on him.
