We hear your heart’s cry, and we come before the Lord with your request, lifting it up in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. First, we must address the foundation of any relationship, it must be rooted in Christ, for without Him, even the strongest bonds can falter. The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 6:14, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" If your relationship is not built on a shared faith in Jesus, we must pray for God’s wisdom and discernment for you both.
If this man is not your husband, we must also address the nature of your relationship. The Bible is clear that intimacy outside of marriage is not God’s design. In 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, we read, "Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." If there has been sin in this area, we encourage you to repent and seek God’s forgiveness, trusting Him to restore purity and holiness in your life.
We also want to gently rebuke any spirit of desperation or control in this situation. God does not want us to chase after anyone or manipulate circumstances to get our way. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Instead of focusing on what this man is or isn’t doing, we must surrender him, and your desires, to the Lord. If he is not calling you, we must ask God to reveal why and trust Him to work in both of your hearts.
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved and the only mediator between God and man. Lord, we lift up this sister and her situation to You. We ask that You would draw her heart closer to Yours and help her to seek You above all else. Father, if this man is not the one You have for her, we pray that You would remove him from her life and replace her longing with Your perfect peace. If he is the one, we pray that You would soften his heart, convict him of any sin, and lead him to pursue her in a way that honors You.
Lord, we rebuke any spirit of fear, desperation, or idolatry in this situation. We declare that You alone are her source of fulfillment and that she will not place any person above You. We ask that You would break any ungodly soul ties or attachments that do not align with Your will. Father, we pray for repentance and holiness in her life, that she would walk in purity and honor You with her body and her heart.
We also pray for this man, Lord. If he does not know You, we ask that You would reveal Yourself to him in a powerful way. If he is a believer, we pray that You would convict him of any sin, including neglect or passivity in this relationship. Give him a heart to pursue godly relationships and to honor You in all he does.
Father, we trust You to work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose. We ask that You would give this sister patience, wisdom, and discernment as she waits on You. Help her to rest in Your love and to know that You are working even when she cannot see it.
In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.
We encourage you to focus on your relationship with Christ above all else. Spend time in prayer and in the Word, allowing God to fill the longings of your heart. If this man is not pursuing you, ask God to show you whether this relationship is His will. If it is not, trust Him to bring the right man into your life, one who will love you as Christ loves the church and who will honor God in your marriage. Until then, seek to be content in Christ alone, knowing that He is enough.
