Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing this struggle so openly and honestly. Your desire to be free from this sin and to have a holy hatred for it is itself a sign that God is working in your heart, and we join with you in prayer before Him.

We pray that God will fill you with a deep and settled hatred for this sin and a sincere love for purity, that He will cleanse you and strengthen you through Jesus Christ alone, and that He will help you to walk in holiness in both heart and life. We ask that He will guard your mind and body, teach you to flee from temptation, and give you grace to turn quickly to Him in prayer and to His Word when lust rises up.

Do not let sorrow over this relapse swallow you up. Godly sorrow leads to repentance and life, but overmuch sorrow is one of the enemy's traps to drive us toward despair. Judas showed where that kind of despair leads, while even those who had lived in great immorality, when they believed and repented and were purified, entered into the kingdom. Your fall does not have to be final. When you stumble, confess it honestly to God, receive His forgiveness through Christ, and rise again to continue the fight.

True victory often comes not by trusting in our own resolve but by being vigilant and self controlled, by refusing to enter again into the conflict on the enemy's terms, and by trusting God's strength. Give more earnest heed so that you do not slip. Keep yourself from what feeds lust in what you watch, hear and speak, and fill that space with Scripture, prayer and fellowship with other believers who can encourage you and hold you accountable.

We thank God for the two weeks He gave you of standing firm, and we pray He will use even this setback to make you more watchful and more dependent on Him, and to make your life a pattern of purity and faith for others to see.

We are praying that the Lord will deliver you completely from this sin, that you will know His mercy and power day by day, and that you will walk in freedom and wholeness in Christ. In Jesus name, amen.

Thank you for reaching out so honestly and for your desire to be free. God hears that cry and He is not distant or disappointed in a way that pushes you away. Your willingness to confess and to want holiness is itself evidence that He is at work in your heart.

Two weeks of resisting and then giving in several times can feel like failure, and it is understandable that you now feel more determined than ever. Determination is good, but lasting victory will not come from determination alone. Scripture teaches that this kind of struggle comes from lust warring within us. The apostle John describes all that is in the world as the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, and he says these things are not from the Father but from the world. Friendship with the world is hostility toward God. James says the same when he asks where fights and quarrels come from, and answers that they come from desires battling inside us. Masturbation belongs to that realm of the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes, and God calls us away from it not to deprive us, but because our lives are meant to be hidden with Christ in God.

In our culture the opportunities to feed the lust of the eyes and the flesh are everywhere, through images, movies, and screens that make impurity seem normal. If we try to fight only by willpower, we will lose. Trying to count to ten or to white knuckle our way through temptation does not change the heart. Real victory is different. The Bible says to reckon yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. That means agreeing with what God says is already true because of the cross, that your old nature was crucified with Christ and no longer has to rule over you. When temptation comes, victory comes by reckoning that old nature dead and turning to Jesus in that moment rather than trusting your own strength.

That is why faith is so central. Faith is the victory that overcomes the world. It is not faith in your resolve, but faith in what Jesus has already finished. On the cross He triumphed over the powers of darkness and made an open display of His victory. When you come against temptation and against the enemy in the name of Jesus, you are not fighting for victory, you are fighting from His victory. His victory becomes yours as you abide in Him.

Prayer is part of this, but its purpose is not to get God to do what we want so we can use it for ourselves. Prayer is surrender to His will. So we do not simply ask God to bless our efforts, we ask Him to align our hearts with His, to fill us with His Spirit, and to give us a true hatred for what harms us and grieves Him.

You asked for prayer to have a holy hatred for this sin and to be free. That is a right prayer, and God delights to answer it. He can take away the inner steam that drives the sin, so that the desire itself loses its power. Many have found that after a time of reckoning themselves dead and trusting Christ, they look back and realize God has quietly given them freedom in an area where they once had no control, and all the glory goes to Him.

So keep a few things before you in the days ahead. Guard your eyes and your mind, and do not make provision for the flesh. Remove access to what stirs lust, and set your affection on things above, on Christ. When temptation comes, do not stay in the physical realm trying to argue with it. Bring it immediately into the spiritual realm by calling on Jesus, thanking Him for His victory, and reckoning yourself dead to that desire and alive to Him. Praise Him even before you feel the victory, because thanks be to God who always causes us to triumph in Christ and who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. And when God does give you a season of victory, stay humble and close to Him. Do not become confident in your own flesh or go looking for temptation to prove your strength. Stay dependent.

I am praying for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ I bring this dear one before You. Thank You that You love him and that You desire his holiness and freedom. Forgive his sin as he confesses it, cleanse him by the blood of Jesus, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit. Give him a holy hatred for this sin, not a hatred for himself, but a clear seeing that this is of the world and not of You, and that it passes away. Teach him to reckon himself dead to sin and alive to You. Claim the victory of the cross over every hold of lust and shame in his life, and set him free to walk in purity. When he is tempted, remind him to turn to You immediately and to trust Your power rather than his own. Give him grace for today, and then for tomorrow, and build in him a life that brings You glory. Amen.

You do not have to walk this alone. Keep bringing this to the Lord honestly, keep in the Word, and if possible walk with a mature, trusted believer who can encourage you and pray with you regularly. God wants your freedom even more than you do, and He is able to give it as you continue to trust Christ and not yourself.

I can't do this anymore. If God cared He would have helped me by now. And don't throw at me "not in our timing, but in God's". That's what preachers say when they don't have an answer. Obviously, the end depends on my timing. There's only one way to stop being sucked down under the quicksand...
