Proverbs, Chapter 16

16:1 The plans of the heart belong to man; But the answer of the tongue is from Yahweh.

16:2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; But Yahweh weighs the spirits.

16:3 Commit your works to Yahweh, And your purposes will be established.

16:4 Yahweh has made everything for its own end; Yes, even the wicked for the day of evil.

16:5 Everyone who is proud in heart is disgusting to Yahweh: [Though] hand [join] in hand, he will not be unpunished.

16:6 By mercy and truth iniquity is atoned for; And by the fear of Yahweh men depart from evil.

16:7 When a man's ways please Yahweh, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

16:8 Better is a little, with righteousness, Than great revenues with injustice.

16:9 The heart of man devises his way; But Yahweh directs his steps.

16:10 A divine sentence is in the lips of the king; His mouth will not transgress in judgment.

16:11 A just balance and scales are Yahweh's; All the weights of the bag are his work.

16:12 It is disgusting to kings to commit wickedness; For the throne is established by righteousness.

16:13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings; And they love him who speaks right.

16:14 The wrath of a king is [as] messengers of death; But a wise man will pacify it.

16:15 In the light of the king's countenance is life; And his favor is as a cloud of the latter rain.

16:16 How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! Yes, to get understanding is rather to be chosen than silver.

16:17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: He who keeps his way preserves his soul.

16:18 Pride [goes] before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

16:19 It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor, Than to divide the spoil with the proud.

16:20 He who gives heed to the word will find good; And whoever trusts in Yahweh, he is happy.

16:21 The wise in heart will be called prudent; And the sweetness of the lips increases learning.

16:22 Understanding is a wellspring of life to him who has it; But the correction of fools is [their] folly.

16:23 The heart of the wise instructs his mouth, And adds learning to his lips.

16:24 Pleasant words are [as] a honeycomb, Sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

16:25 There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end are the ways of death.

16:26 The appetite of the laboring man labors for him; For his mouth urges him [thereto].

16:27 A worthless man devises mischief; And in his lips there is as a scorching fire.

16:28 A perverse man scatters abroad strife; And a whisperer separates best friends.

16:29 A man of violence entices his fellow man, And leads him in a way that is not good.

16:30 He who shuts his eyes, [it is] to devise perverse things: He who compresses his lips brings evil to pass.

16:31 The gray head is a crown of glory; It will be found in the way of righteousness.

16:32 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty; And he who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city.

16:33 The lot is cast into the lap; But the whole disposing of it is of Yahweh.

Terrific points are made about this chapter here. Thanks, ADMINISTRATOR! I agree with your idea of manhood completely. In fact, I grew up in the era of John Wayne, who always kept a cool head. Then things changed with movie "heroes" who shot folks up and didn't even ask questions later.

FYI, we need to be careful when attributing authorship. I suspect most Christians don't read the prefaces to various books of the Bible or its history. So they don't know--or worse, DON'T CARE--that Solomon allegedly wrote only PARTS of Proverbs (like this 16th chapter). There is nothing to gain from appearing ignorant or superstitious or thinking or acting like one knows more than Bible scholars.

In fact, might not such pushy, ignorant talk be PROUD OF HEART?

Unless I know a passage's authorship for sure, I always say, "the writer of ....." says such and such. It's still God's Word as all Truth is.

How much better it is to get wisdom than gold.  Our heavenly Father gives wisdom to all who ask and those who get are delighted to be in His holy presence because Gods presence in our lives makes all the difference in the whole world.  Dear God, we ask for wisdom from on high.  For understanding that comes from your holy throne.  We want to be like Jesus.  Serving, giving, obeying Gods word.  In His name. Amen

As we age and our heads turn white we should thank God from the bottom of our hearts to know that we are getting closer to enter heaven.  Our years go by fast and we should be busy working and doing Gods will on earth.  The gray head is a crown of glory.  Prov. 16.31a  Let us all raise our voices in praise to our heavenly Father for giving us time and pleasure in serving him with all our heart, mind and soul.

Turn your eyes away from worthless things that consume our time and energy.  Incline your heart to hear Gods word and to obey what He has to say. Bring offerings of praise and honor to Him who died on the cross for you and me.

Draw near to the heart of God and He will draw near to your life and will bless you.  Whatever you do for Him is not in vain or a waste of time.  Jesus is counting on us to be His arms, His feet and HIs own mind. The highway of the upright is to depart from evil. Prov. 16.17a  May God lead our steps in the right direction. The hightway to heaven is hard and with much troubles coming along.  But it is worthwhile.  We will reach heaven when time comes.

Let us all magnify the Lord for His mercy is from evelasting to everlasing to those who fear His holy name.  My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim to spread throughout the earth the glories of Thy name.  Let us all bow down before our God and saviour for giving us His word.   To grow in grace and mercy.  A divine sentence is in the lips of the king.    May the divine word of God touch our heats today and may we live according to what we read it today.  Blessed be the Lord our God now and forever more.  Amen
