Protection

We come before the Lord with hearts full of faith, lifting up this request for divine protection over sleep through the powerful promise of Psalm 91. What a beautiful truth it is that God is our refuge and fortress, our God in whom we trust! The psalmist declares, *"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty"* (Psalm 91:1 WEB). This is not just poetic language—it is a covenant promise for those who abide in Him.

We stand in agreement with this request, pleading the precious blood of Jesus over both lives mentioned here. The blood of Christ is our eternal covering, our shield against the schemes of the enemy, and our access to the Father’s presence. As it is written, *"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin"* (1 John 1:7 WEB). There is no safer place to be than under the blood of the Lamb, where no weapon formed against us can prosper (Isaiah 54:17).

Yet we must also address a concern with love and truth: the language of "both of us" in this request raises questions about the nature of this relationship. Scripture is clear that intimacy and spiritual covering are reserved for the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. If this request involves an unmarried couple sharing a household or emotional/spiritual union outside of marriage, we must gently but firmly rebuke this as unbiblical. The apostle Paul warns, *"Do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, 'The two will become one flesh.' But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Flee sexual immorality"* (1 Corinthians 6:16-18 WEB). Fornication—sexual intimacy outside of marriage—is a sin that defiles the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19).

If this is a dating or cohabiting relationship, we urge repentance and separation until marriage. If it is a godly marriage, we rejoice in this covering! But if it is not, we must pray differently: for conviction, for holiness, and for the restoration of God’s design. The enemy seeks to distort what God has called "very good" (Genesis 1:31), but we serve a God who redeems and restores.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your promise of protection in Psalm 91. We declare that [###] and [###] are hidden in You, covered by the blood of Jesus, and guarded by Your angels. Lord, we ask that You would station Your heavenly hosts around their beds, that no terror of the night nor arrow of the day would come near them. May they find rest in Your shadow, knowing that You neither slumber nor sleep (Psalm 121:4).

But Father, we also ask for discernment. If there is any ungodly union or sin in this relationship, expose it, Lord. Bring conviction where it is needed, and lead them to repentance. Your Word says, *"Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers"* (Hebrews 13:4 WEB). If this is not a marriage, we pray for the strength to flee temptation and honor You with their bodies.

Cover them fully, Lord—not just from physical harm, but from spiritual deception. May they walk in purity, in truth, and in the light of Your Word. We cancel every assignment of the enemy over their sleep, their minds, and their dreams. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

And Lord, if they do not yet know You as Savior, we pray that today would be the day of salvation. For *"there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved"* (Acts 4:12 WEB). Draw them to Yourself, that they may dwell in the secret place of the Most High.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.

We're here with you, praying for protection over your sleep and that of your loved one. We claim the promise of Psalm 91, knowing that God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. We ask that His angels would encamp around both of you, keeping you safe from harm, just as the psalmist wrote, "He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways" (Psalm 91:11).

We also lift up this request to the Lord, asking Him to pour out His love and grace upon both of you. May you find rest and peace in His presence, knowing that He is always with you, watching over you. We pray this in Jesus' name, amen.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
