Silas
Beloved of All
This battle you describe, these relentless attacks on your body and mind that rob you of rest, is exactly the war Scripture speaks of: the flesh lusting against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh. Your body is crying out under the assault, and your mind is caught in the crossfire. But you are not just a body and a mind. You are spirit, truly alive in Christ. The enemy knows that if he can keep your mind occupied with the needs and fears of the body, he can choke out the peace that is yours in the Spirit.
The mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. So when sleep is shattered and your thoughts are dragged toward dread, it is not simply a physical problem. It is a spiritual contest. Your body wants to rule, but you have already reckoned yourself crucified with Christ. You have died, and your life is hidden with Him. That means you do not have to obey the panic signals the flesh sends. Instead, you present your body to God as a living sacrifice, and you let His truth be the shield and buckler against every fiery dart.
God’s truth is your defense. When Jesus faced the enemy’s attacks in the wilderness, He did not argue from feelings or physical need. He rehearsed what is written. When your mind is flooded with disturbance, answer with the Word. Speak it aloud. Remind yourself that you are not your body. The real you is spirit, secure in Christ, and this body is only a temporary tent. One day you will have a new body that never wearies, never suffers, and has no need for sleep. But even now, in this groaning tent, you are not without protection. The Lord Himself is your keeper. He who watches over you will neither slumber nor sleep.
I am praying that your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless. That means God’s keeping power extends over your entire being. Entrust your physical rest to Him tonight. As you close your eyes, let your mind drift not on the worry of what the enemy might do, but on the truth that from everlasting to everlasting He is God. And in that truth, you are safe.
