Scripture teaches that grace, mercy and peace come from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior. That mercy is included especially for those who walk closely with the Lord, because we all need mercy. We do not come to God demanding justice, for if we received what we deserve we would face judgment for our disobedience and rebellion. We come asking for mercy, and God in His love gives it freely. All that God has for us, His peace and His love and His joy, is found in His Son. To have Jesus is to have peace, to have love, to have true life, for everything God offers is wrapped up in Him.
You asked for protection from negative thoughts. The mind is a battleground, and true peace is not found by searching in other places that promise relief but cannot give it. The peace that steadies the heart comes from being filled with the Holy Spirit. God's thoughts toward His children are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give a hopeful future. He invites us to seek peace and pursue it, to be gentle and humble rather than harsh or quarrelsome, remembering that we ourselves once needed the same grace we now show to others. When anxious or dark thoughts arise, bring them to Christ, ask Him to guard the heart and mind, and fill the mind with what is true and good and worthy of praise.
You also prayed for mercy and peace with justice. At the cross, justice and mercy met. God is just, and He is also merciful, and through Jesus He can show mercy without denying justice. You can pray with confidence that God will deal with your husband not as his failures deserve, but with the kindness and forgiveness that flow from Christ.
In marriage God has given a simple and beautiful design. The wife is called to respect and support her husband as she would honor the Lord, and the husband is called to love his wife as Christ loved the church and to honor her, caring for her and protecting her as one who is precious. When that mutual love and honor is lived out, the home becomes a place of peace and prayers are unhindered, for husband and wife are heirs together of the grace of life. Ask the Lord to guard his mind from discouragement and lies, to surround him with grace and mercy, to fill him with the love and peace that are found only in Jesus, and to lead him in the way that is right. Pray that he will know how deeply he is loved by God and by you, and that he will walk in sober minded faith, trusting the Lord with his future.
