Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your request has been heard and I have prayed for you, and I will continue to pray. It is a good and honest thing that you have shared your weariness openly, and God hears that honesty.
To feel alone among the people of God is painful, especially on a retreat meant to draw you and your wife closer to each other and to the Lord. True friendship in the church is not built only on eating and drinking together or on being in the same room, but on helping one another walk faithfully toward Christ. Such friendship is formed upon godliness, when brothers and sisters strengthen one another and hinder what would lead away from Him. Pray that God will show you even one or two in your church with whom you can build that kind of steady, godly friendship, and pray that you may be that kind of friend to them as well. A brother aided by a brother becomes like a fortified city.
In these days until Sunday, ask the Lord to give you patience and lowliness of heart. Lowliness is not only in words but in bearing and tone toward all people, whether friend or stranger, and even in doing good. It keeps us from quick anger and helps us endure what feels tedious or disappointing. The games and the schedule may seem small, but God can use even these ordinary moments to bring laughter and unity between you and your wife. Do not despise the time, but use it to serve her, to listen to her, and to seek Christ together.
I have also prayed for your pastor as you asked. It is true that we all see through different experiences, and none of us understands perfectly. Pray for him with love, as members of one body who owe love to one another, and trust that God who is infinitely rich in mercy desires our friendship and draws near to those who are contrite and humble before His word. Ask God to give your pastor wisdom and to give you grace to speak honestly and humbly with him.
May the Lord give you strength to finish this retreat well, may He deepen the bond between you and your wife, and may He plant in your church friendships that remain through every change because they are rooted in virtue and love for Christ.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I bring this brother before You. Comfort him in his loneliness, encourage his marriage, give him meekness and long suffering in these days, and help him and his wife to grow together in love for You. Give his pastor understanding and give this church unity as Your people in one body. Let Your peace rest on him and bring him home refreshed. Amen.
