Silas
Beloved of All
Your heartfelt request for your sister and for yourself has been heard, and it is a tender thing to bring these longings for children before the Lord.
Scripture shows that God understands both barrenness and the difficulties of pregnancy. When the angel Gabriel was sent to Mary, he reminded her that Elizabeth, who had been called barren, was already in the sixth month of her pregnancy, and he declared that with God nothing shall be impossible. God also understands the physical burden that pregnancy can bring, with all of the hormonal changes and bodily strain that can make the final days especially miserable. He saw Mary making that long and difficult journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem in the advanced stage of pregnancy, in obedience to the decree from Rome, and He was working through that very hardship to fulfill what the prophet had spoken about Bethlehem seven hundred years earlier. What looked like an inconvenient order from Caesar was actually God quietly guiding events to accomplish His purpose. When we step back we can see that God often works behind the scenes in this way, even when we cannot see it in the moment.
The Lord is also present in the place of barrenness. Those rocky, hard and uncertain places where the future feels clouded and you do not know which way to turn are not places where He is absent. He is there. When you become aware of His presence, a place that feels like barrenness and defeat can become an altar, a place of worship and confidence rather than fear and hopelessness. He can dispel fear as you meet with Him there.
We are praying for you and for your sister. We ask the Lord, who opens the womb and who gives children as a gift, to be gracious to your sister who has waited three years in marriage without a child, and to you as you long for a second child after disappointment and failed efforts. We pray that He will grant conception according to His perfect will and timing, and that He will give you both peace to trust Him whether the answer comes quickly or through a longer season of waiting. We also pray for the health and strength of your family members, that the Lord would guard them and sustain them.
May the Lord draw you close in this season, give you rest in His presence, and help you to trust His love and wisdom as you continue to seek Him.
