Prayer for your mother each day is a holy and profitable work, and yes, God uses such faithful prayer to soften the heart.
When you bring the same person before God continually, your own soul is changed. Stubbornness is softened and the heart becomes more attentive to God, more tender toward others, and more aware of His mercy. This is why Scripture calls us to pray at all seasons and without ceasing, not only at set times. Like the widow who persisted and the friends who kept knocking, perseverance in prayer shapes the one who prays.
To pray rightly, rend your heart and not only speak words. Call upon God from deep within, in sincerity and humility, asking what is pleasing to Him and according to His will. God hears such prayer and gives grace in return.
So continue each day to pray for your mother with a contrite and thankful heart. Ask God to bless her according to His goodness, to keep her, to draw her closer to Christ, and at the same time ask Him to form in you a gentle, compassionate and humble heart. As you do this faithfully, you will find your heart softened, your love enlarged, and your walk with God strengthened.
