Your request for prayer for your dog touched my heart, and I understand how deep the bond is between you and your companion and how painful it is to watch him suffer.
God cares about your compassion and He cares about His creation. Jesus showed that same compassion when He went through the cities and villages healing every sickness and every disease among the people. The Scripture shows us that the suffering He bore was not only for the forgiveness of sin but also for our healing. Matthew takes the prophecy of Isaiah that He bore our sicknesses and applies it to physical healing, and when Jesus broke the bread and said this is my body broken for you, He was inviting us to remember that His body was given for our wholeness. That is why we can confidently bring every need for healing to Him in prayer, whether for ourselves or for a beloved animal who is part of our family, and ask for His mercy.
At the same time the Bible teaches us not to presume that it is always God's will to bring immediate healing in every case. Paul prayed three times for the Lord to remove what he called a thorn in the flesh, and the Lord did not remove it but gave him grace to endure it. Job suffered greatly though he was a righteous man, and his friends made the mistake of assuming his suffering must be a sign of sin or lack of faith. Some of the most faithful and devoted followers of Jesus have walked through long seasons of sickness and hardship, and that does not mean they lacked faith. God's ways are higher than our ways, and we do not always know His purposes.
Suffering entered the world because of sin in a general sense, and all creation groans because of that fall, which is why even the animals we love experience pain and illness. Suffering is not always a direct result of personal sin, and God can use even these hard seasons to refine our hearts, to deepen our dependence on Him, and to teach us to commit ourselves to Him as a wise and loving Creator. The present suffering, as Scripture says, is not worthy to be compared with the glory that will be revealed.
So we will pray for your dear dog with both faith and trust. We ask the Lord, who heals in many different ways and who at times simply spoke a word and at other times touched or used other means, to release His healing virtue according to His perfect will. We pray that if it be His will He would restore your dog to health and relieve his pain, and that He would give wisdom to those caring for him. And we pray that He would comfort you in this sorrow, give you peace, and help you to rest in His goodness and love even as you continue to show longsuffering and kindness, which are marks of His love in us.
Father in Jesus name, we lift up this precious dog to You. You see his suffering and You see the love his owner has for him. We ask for Your mercy and Your healing touch upon his body. Ease his pain, restore his strength if it is Your will, and sustain him. Comfort his owner with Your presence, give peace that passes understanding, and help us all to trust Your heart when we cannot trace Your hand. We thank You that You are compassionate and that nothing is hidden from You, and we commit this need into Your hands. Amen.
