Prayer request for a boss at a school

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Prayer request for a boss at a school. She is a teacher at a school for disabilitys she was making fun of Jesus and buddah yesterday. She likes Harry Potter novels and gives the books to her children and even ones she adopted. But she was making fun of Jesus in her classroom yesterday and other staff joined in in the jokes.

We have heard your burden for this teacher who is in a position of authority over vulnerable children and we join with you in bringing her before the Lord, for what you describe grieves our hearts as it grieves His. To use a classroom to mock the Lord Jesus, and to lead other staff to join in, is a serious matter. Scripture warns us, Do not be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap in Galatians 6:7, and Jesus Himself said in Matthew 12:36 that every idle word that men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. We also remember Exodus 20:7 that we shall not take the name of the Lord our God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain. To make fun of Buddha is to mock a false way, but to make fun of Jesus is to mock the only living Savior, for Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, and in Acts 4:12 we are told there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved.

We are also concerned about her delight in Harry Potter and her giving those books to children, including those she has adopted. While many see these stories as harmless fantasy, we know the Bible clearly instructs us to turn away from witchcraft and sorcery. In Deuteronomy 18:10-12 we read, There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And in Philippians 4:8 we are called to think on whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely. We pray that her eyes would be opened to the spiritual influence she is inviting into the lives of these precious children, whom God loves dearly, for Jesus said to let the little children come to Him.

We pray together now for her and for that school.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our only mediator, for as 1 Timothy 2:5 says, there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. We lift up this teacher to You and ask for Your mercy upon her. Forgive her for mocking Your holy name and for leading others into that sin. Open her eyes to see that You are holy and to be reverenced, not ridiculed. We pray that You would bring conviction to her heart and to the other staff who joined in, that they would repent and turn to Jesus for salvation, for You are not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance as we read in 2 Peter 3:9. We ask that You protect the children in that school, especially those with disabilities who are so vulnerable and so precious in Your sight. Guard their hearts and minds from confusion and from any influence of darkness through what they are taught and what they are given to read. Raise up a faithful witness in that place.

We also pray for you who carried this burden to us. We ask that the Lord will give you boldness tempered with love, to stand for Christ in that environment. In Matthew 5:44 Jesus tells us to love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, and in Ephesians 4:29 we are told, Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. We encourage you to continue to pray fervently for this woman, to live as a quiet and consistent example of reverence for Christ, and if the Lord opens the door, to speak to her privately with grace and truth about how her words affect others. You may also need to wisely document what is happening and, as the Lord leads, bring concerns through proper channels, for those in authority over children will give an account for how they steward that trust. Do not return mocking for mocking, but commit this to the Lord who judges righteously, and trust that He hears your intercession. We pray that He will use your prayers to bring salvation and transformation to that classroom, and that His name will be honored there instead of mocked, in Jesus name we pray, amen.

We were sorry to read what you witnessed in that classroom. Hearing Jesus mocked openly, and hearing others join in, is painful, especially in a school for vulnerable students where you want every child to be treated with dignity. It can leave you feeling caught between respect for your boss and love for the Lord.

We are grateful you brought this to prayer rather than just carrying it alone. That is a faithful response when you have little authority to change the room.

In a workplace like this, a quiet and steady witness often speaks the loudest. We would encourage you to keep praying privately for this teacher and for the staff culture, to continue doing your own work with kindness and respect toward students and coworkers, and to not feel you must debate or correct her in front of others. If you have a pastor or a mature believer outside the school you trust, it may help to talk confidentially with them about how to navigate this setting wisely and within school policies.

Father, we lift this teacher to You and ask You to soften her heart toward You. Give our friend wisdom to know when to speak and when to remain quiet, courage to reflect Christ well at work, and peace in leaving what they cannot control in Your hands. Protect the children in that school and draw each heart there toward Your truth and kindness. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your request has been heard and we join you in sorrow and in prayer over this open mockery of our Lord in that classroom.

It is no new thing that Jesus should be mocked. He was despised and derided upon the cross, and the Psalm foretold it, He trusted on the Lord that He would deliver Him. No doubt we may expect to have all the more of the laughter of the ungodly who will make a spectacle of us for our faith, but what of that, we can bear mockery and much more for His sake who died for us. That men should scoff at the very idea of divine interposition is grievous, yet it shows us where they stand, under wrath and in need of grace. Even devils have confessed that Jesus is the Christ of God, but such knowledge without worship does not save. Salvation is not of works, nor of light nature, but of grace, and salvation is of the Lord alone, from first to last. He must make the unwilling willing and bring the vile rebel to the feet of Jesus, or else salvation will never be accomplished.

We will pray that the Lord will bare His arm for the salvation of souls in that place. We pray for this teacher who holds influence over vulnerable children, and for the other staff who joined in the jesting, that God would grant them repentance and faith. That the tiny spark of conscience might be watched over by Christ and grow into a worshipping faith, faith on its knees in the presence of the Son of God, beholding Jesus with eyes which He has opened. That they may see that this same Jesus who was crucified is now risen and enthroned, and that to mock Him is to trifle with their own souls, for He stands indignantly over His own and will not hold guiltless those who make unhallowed mirth out of holy things. We pray that instead of the bread of sorcery and fable, those children, both natural and adopted, and those precious pupils with disabilities, may be given the true Light and Life, even Jesus the Substitute for sinners, and that the healing virtue of Christ Jesus may be manifest among them.

We pray also for you, that you may bear this reproach with meekness and love, and that you may be kept from returning reviling for reviling. Pray for Jesus, that His name may be praised where it has been despised, that His kingdom may come in that school, and that He may see of the travail of His soul. Pray that the Lord would turn persecution into prosperity, as He has often done, and make this trial a seed time for a harvest of joy.

We entreat the Lord to have mercy upon that school, to grant to that teacher and her colleagues a sight of the cross where the Son of God died for love of men, and was raised by the Father as evidence of His mission. May they leave all other confidences and believe on Him, for He is worthy of their utmost confidence. And may you continue steadfast, knowing it is a greater honor to serve Christ in the most menial capacity than to occupy any earthly throne, and to bear a pinch for Jesus is sweet when done for His glory.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We have received your prayer request and we are joining you in prayer over this situation at the school.

It is painful to hear that those entrusted with caring for vulnerable children would make light of the Lord Jesus, and that others joined in. To mock Christ is a serious matter, yet scripture shows us that God is patient and desires repentance, and that He gives grace to those who turn to Him through Jesus Christ alone. There is no other name by which we are saved, and we cannot treat Jesus as one option among many. We will pray that your boss and the other staff come to see who Jesus truly is, that their eyes would be opened to His mercy and to the seriousness of dishonoring Him, and that any interest in other ways, including reverence for Buddha, would give way to faith in Christ alone.

We also hear your concern about the Harry Potter books being given to children, including adopted children in her care. We share your desire that children, especially children with disabilities who are precious in God's sight, would be pointed toward what is true and wholesome and toward Christ Himself rather than toward fascination with sorcery. We will pray for protection over those children, for wisdom for their parents and caregivers, and that God would give your boss discernment and a changed heart in what she places before them.

For you, we pray for courage and humility. Scripture reminds us that all who will live in a godly way in Christ Jesus will face opposition, and that this is not strange for the believer. Like the paralytic who did not mock when Jesus told him to take up his bed and walk, but obeyed at once and then boldly confessed his healer even when others pressed him, may you be given steady faith. Like Joseph who showed courage after the death of Jesus when he openly asked for His body at great risk, may you be given quiet boldness to speak the truth in love without returning mockery for mockery. The Lord does not call us to seek ease in the conflict, but to be faithful, to pray, to show mercy, and to keep a contrite heart.

So we pray together. Father, have mercy on this teacher and on every staff member who joined in mocking Your Son. Forgive them and bring them to repentance and to saving faith in Jesus Christ. Let them know Your grace and the forgiveness that comes only through the cross and resurrection. Give them a new reverence for Your name and a new love for the children they serve. Protect the children in that school, and guide those who care for them to nurture them in truth and kindness. Give the one who brought this request wisdom to know when to speak and when to be silent, grace to answer with gentleness and respect, strength to endure any pressure or isolation for Christ's sake, and a continued love for those who oppose the gospel. Make us all vigilant, humble, and hopeful, remembering that death has been trampled down and Your grace has been given. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we ask this, amen.

We will continue to remember you, the children, and this school before the Lord. If you have opportunity, continue to pray privately, to live in a way that honors Christ before your coworkers, and to speak a gentle word for Him when God opens the door.
