Prayer for ###

Disciple of Prayer
My brothers dog passed away while he was on vacation. He has many mental illnesses including ### and ### and will come home to find out. It was his only friend. He’s prone to ### and is usually a big stressor on our family. I’m worried he’s going to try to hurt himself, and I’m worried that my ### year old dad is going to have a ### over it. Please please pray for our family, especially my brother, father, mother and myself.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your family in this time of deep sorrow and concern. The loss of a beloved pet is never easy, and when it compounds the struggles of mental illness and family stress, the weight can feel unbearable. We stand with you in prayer, trusting that God sees every tear and hears every unspoken fear.

Heavenly Father, we ask You to wrap Your arms of comfort around this family, especially around your brother who is returning to such devastating news. Lord, You know the depths of his pain, his loneliness, his struggles with mental illness, and the bond he shared with his dog. We pray that You would be his strength when he feels weak, his peace when his mind is troubled, and his hope when despair threatens to overwhelm him. Protect him from thoughts of self-harm, and surround him with people who will speak life and truth into his heart. Remind him that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).

Father, we also lift up their father, who is already carrying the weight of age and health concerns. Guard his heart and mind, and give him the strength to endure this trial without it becoming a breaking point. Pour out Your grace upon their mother as well, who likely bears the burden of caring for the family in this difficult time. Give her wisdom, patience, and an extra measure of Your love to pour out on each of them. And Lord, for the one praying this request, strengthen them too. They are carrying concern for their entire family, and we ask that You would sustain them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

We rebuke the spirit of despair that seeks to take hold in this situation. The enemy would love to use this loss to drive a wedge of hopelessness, anger, or division in this family, but we declare that God’s love is greater. We speak healing over their minds, unity over their home, and the presence of the Holy Spirit to fill every void. Lord, we ask that You would bring people into their lives who can offer godly support, whether through counseling, fellowship, or simply being a listening ear. Remind them that they are not alone, for You are their ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).

We also want to gently encourage this family to cling to the hope found only in Jesus Christ. In times of grief and mental anguish, it can be easy to feel abandoned, but Scripture assures us that nothing can separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:38-39). If your brother or any member of your family does not yet know Jesus as their Savior, we pray that this season of pain would draw them to Him. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6), and He alone can bring true and lasting comfort.

Lord, we ask that You would replace this family’s sorrow with Your joy, their anxiety with Your peace, and their fear with Your perfect love. Heal their hearts, restore their hope, and let them feel Your presence in tangible ways. We trust You to work all things together for good for those who love You (Romans 8:28), even in this painful season. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

What a heavy and heartbreaking situation, we are so sorry. The loss of his dog, his only steady companion, amid everything else he carries, is a blow that would shake anyone. And you are carrying so much as a family, especially with concern for your dad's health on top of it all. It is completely understandable that you feel the weight right now.

First, we want to say this plainly because it’s important: if at any moment you believe your brother is in immediate danger of harming himself, please don’t hesitate to contact your local emergency services right away. There is also a free, confidential helpline in your country that you or anyone in your family can use now to get support and practical guidance; you can find it at findahelpline.com. Trained people are ready to help, and reaching out is an act of love, not disloyalty.

As you prepare for his return, think about ways to keep the environment as safe as possible right now. If there are firearms in the house, consider having a trusted friend or relative temporarily hold them somewhere offsite. If there are large quantities of medication, lock them away or have someone keep them. Even small obstacles can buy precious time when the pain feels unbearable. Wherever you can, try to make sure someone is physically present with him after he gets the news; isolation can deepen the spiral. You don’t have to have all the right words, your quiet, steady presence is more powerful than a perfect sentence. Let him grieve the dog openly, and don’t be afraid to ask him directly if he is feeling suicidal. Asking does not plant the idea; it often brings relief and opens a door to getting a plan in place together.

You and your parents are not meant to carry this alone. Is there a pastor, a trusted elder, or a few close friends from your church who could form a small circle of care around your brother and also check on your dad? Even just one other person sharing the load can make a huge difference. And please, in all of this, guard a few moments for your own breathing and rest; you cannot pour out endlessly. Your own heart matters deeply too.

We are praying with you now:

Lord Jesus, we bring this beloved son and brother to You. He is hurting, afraid, and facing loss upon loss. In Your mercy, hedge him in, keep his mind from the edge, and grant him even a flicker of hope when he hears the news. Give this family unusual clarity and courage to do whatever is needed to preserve his life and their own well-being. Sustain their father’s body and spirit, hold their mother steady, and give the one who wrote this supernatural peace and wisdom. May they find practical help and a community to walk with them. We ask all this in Your strong name, Jesus. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

I pray for peace over your entire family and I ask that God blesses you with divine protection for any harm or catastrophe. May God cover all over you with grace, peace, love and light. Amen

Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. This is a day of sore affliction, and the heart of a brother is heavy, the heart of a father is heavy, the heart of a sister and a mother are heavy. Yet the eternal Word comes to you, not with a single note of consolation, but with a doubled strain: Comfort ye, comfort ye. You are not left without a peculiar comfort in this hour. The psalmist cried, This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your Word has quickened me. It is not the bare letter, but the Spirit of God applying that Word which brings life and solace to a sinking soul. When God would comfort us, He quickens us, He gives new life where death’s shadow falls, and so He comforts us. Cry to Him, then, for that quickening breath upon your brother as he faces this bitter news.

Do not ask what is the cause of this deep-seated grief in him, for the cause lies plain: a mind already troubled, a heart that had made this creature its only friend. But where is the remedy? Oh, it is in more prayer, beloved. It was little prayer that brought you down; it is great prayer that will lift you up. Plead with the Lord who is faithful, who will not suffer your brother to be tempted above what he is able to bear, but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that he may be able to bear it. There is a restraint God puts upon trial which is a solid comfort for believing hearts. This sorrow has not taken him but such as is common to man, and God has power to limit its force. Every twig of the rod is counted. There is not a drop more gall in his cup than the Lord has ordained.

You fear that he is such a bruised reed that he will be snapped, such a dimly burning wick that he will be quenched. But our Lord Jesus Christ does not break the bruised reed, nor quench the smoking flax. He knows the enormity of guilt that can rush upon a troubled mind, He who looked on Peter with grieving love knows the sorrows that flood in after. If there are those who cry out against his weakness, saying, “Ah, that is your Christianity!”, let them be silent. He is still that child of the family, perhaps the smallest and most feeble, yet the most surely his Father’s child.

Look not only to the present horror, but to the future. Time is a wonderful healer in the hand of God. You shall forget your misery, and remember it as waters that pass away. How will that be? As God restores, year after year, building a hedge around His own again. So, poor tried souls, let the Spirit lay home to your hearts the fact of your adoption into the family of God. Our Lord Jesus Christ, Himself, and God, even our Father, is able to comfort your hearts. What a plea this is in prayer: My Father, will You not relieve me in the hour of my distress? Sweep away the fears, mistrusts, and selfishness which are the chief danger within, and let the anchor of His faithfulness hold you fast. Therefore, comfort one another with these words, and with great prayer.
